  1. This was our first time on X and so we didn't know an ice bucket wasn't standard in the cabin. It is on HAL. It wasn't a big problem for us, but would have been nice to know that one would be provided on request. How is a person to know this if they don't follow on cruise critic? :-)

Without the search feature I have been having a hard time finding out the things I need to know as a newbie on X. Hoping to just go with the flow. Already had to pay $$ to change our flight from Monday - could not wait for SWA to make the offer.

  2. I loved the Century also. If you happen to walk by the Cova and see our son, Jordan Peterson performing, tell him "HI" from his parents!! Have a great time on this awesome old ship.

I am hearing such great things about him! I do hope he will still be onboard when we try Celebrity for the first time March 3!

  3. We used this plan in July for our Bermuda trip - worked great at sea and on land. For our January trip last month, I thought I had arranged for it but I guess the person I spoke to didn't know about it because we were on an international plan for ONE day of the cruise and then got charged per minute for the rest. When I called about this whopping bill, the person just took it all off!

For our three night coming up, I am just not getting any plan. I don't want to go through all the phone stuff again after the cruise so we will rely on Internet for that time.

  4. After teaching elementary school for 30 years, I know this is the time for the stomach bug ,and I have seen how it tears through a population. I could have a perfectly fine class at the start of the day and by lunchtime, it would be a disaster.

I had the noro on a cruise some years ago- ugly ,but it does pass quickly. Advantage being that any weight gain was quickly negated!

That being said, I do not like to see kids handling food in the WJ and tend to avoid going there altogether.

  5. My husband and I will be on Grandeur in a few weeks. First time on RCCL and very excited. What was your favorite place to eat?

We really love Chops and Izumi - went to each twice. The dining option which costs $55 a person includes all three specialty restaurants. We did have lunch and breakfast several days in the Park Café and also in the dining room. Park Café is right in the Solarium and is healthy and good. Because of the weather on our cruise ( don't even ask) , everyone was inside most of the time which resulted in the WJ being really crowded. We decided we could not fight that table fight every day so we did not eat there at all.

Music- the string duo , Rosario Strings, plays classical and played in various quiet venues. Not many people cared to see them, but we thought they were great.

  6. Anyone know where I can find a cruise compass for the Bahamas out of Baltimore cruise on grandeur? I'm trying to do some research of the ship and what it has to offer before booking. We were on explorer in October to Bermuda, we loved the ship but would like to try something different.

We are just off of her on Saturday. I didn't bring home the compasses, but I can tell you that there was great music and plenty of it all over the ship. String duo, dance music- two bands- , RCCL orchestra, and reggae band plus late night dj.Also movies outside and inside, trivia and lots of other types of entertainment in the Centrum. We had the aerial show two nights- very good. Ask me specific questions and I will try to answer them. The memories are fresh.

  7. Hey Twibes, can you go ask the passengers in cabin 7650 how comfortable their bed is? ;) I just booked that "coveted" cabin and then read some comments from folks who sailed recently who said that after the fire last year, the beds were replaced in those deck 7 aft cabins and the replacement beds are low to the ground, thin, and uncomfortable like little cots! :p:mad:

I sure hope that isn't the case by next April when I have to "camp" in that cabin!

I'm just kidding about going to their cabin. But do keep your ears open if you hear anyone complaining about their bed! One of the passengers who commented about how painful the bed in 7650 was, sent a letter to Adam Goldstein when she got home, so I am hoping that the problem has already been corrected. :o

Slept in that bed in July- loved it. Was thinking of it today, in fact, and realized how crazy I am to miss a BED!

  8. Sailing in 3 weeks in 7650. Will update upon return. The only other time I sailed in that cabin was on Enchantment outrunning Hurricane Ida- can't judge movement by that!

None of the other afts we've been in have had any more movement than normal. Of course, we are so hooked on afts that we haven't been on the side in a LONG time.

  9. We have been wondering if the tip situation is why we did not get any of the mail from the DL concierge (usually delivered by room steward) and also got NO luggage tags the day before disembarkation. For the first time ever, we walked into a pitch dark room on the last night. Seemed unusual!!

  10. The Liberty embarkation on Sunday was exactly as we heard-messy. We drove directly to the pier at 11:30 and dropped our bags. There were already plenty of people arriving but we asked the porter if he thought it was going to be a mess and he said yes. We followed DJ Mike’s advice- returned our car to Hertz downtown and then crossed the street to Bayfront Park. We walked to Bayside, used the free wifi there (several very nice RCCL entertainers were there as well) and then went up to Hooters to watch the first half of the game. It definitely made me nervous to leave the ship area but it was the right thing to do. At halftime we grabbed a cab- 2:45- and went back to the pier where the line stretched for at least a block outside. Cab cost $7.00. I wanted to go back to Hooters but my husband said we had to stay as it was getting late. Wonder of wonders – at that moment another door opened up and we were able to walk right in. The process went quickly then- they had extra people working at a table to speed things up. We were in our seats for the 2nd half before the third quarter ended. We met a woman there who said she was diamond and had gotten on at 1:20. That would have been OK for us too but the wait would have been excruciating, not knowing if we’d get on in time or not.
The official reason- everyone gets full customs treatment after Belize- not just non-USA citizens. They get fingerprinted also.
So far- wonderful cruise although 2 sea days in a row seems a lot .Staff has been great- food as always. Went to wine dinner at Portofino last night – highly recommend that experience. The only slight disappointment is that the Schooner Bar piano player is not as good as ones past. Technically competent but not such a showman and seems a little jumpy. Oh well…….

Btw- very slow to get online - sometimes it takes 10-15 tries! So many electronic tools onboard- crowded internet!
