  1. We sent my daughter's expired passport for renewal and it took almost five weeks. It finally came last week. Thank goodness.

Mailed our renewals on October 24th and got them back November 5th. 13 days! Quite impressed with the turnaround.

Wonder if the 5 weeks had something to do with the passport being expired? Ours were not.

  2. I think one of the biggest problems with going that early is that you don't know your limitations yet. Your eyes can still, almost literally, be bigger than your stomach. You will not have really learned about your own stomach size but also learned to account for the food in your throat that hasn't gotten to your stomach. You're also still learning to say no. The surgery is only a tool to force you to do so or suffer very unpleasant consequences.

I went on my first cruise 5 months after RNY and I had many problems because I wanted "just a bite". Well, one bite can be one bite too many.

I know the procedures are different, and I wish I had the VSG, but there is one common thread: the stomach is really small. I wish you tremendous luck and success with your procedure.

  3. I must be looking at the wrong thing. January 26, Empress, to Key West and Nassau:

I get $1,413 for JS on this cruise. Total for Royal Suite, same cruise, including taxes is $3,212. This is the total for 2 ppl I did not include any discounts like C&A or senior, etc.[/

    Here is what I see

Cleared my cache and it appears I was still seeing some stupid RCL BOGO60% BS thing. Either way, both of those amounts are way too much for that suite on that ship.

  4. Out of curiosity I priced up a 4 night cruise for 2 people on Empress January 26th.

Cost before taxes is $4282. with taxes it is over $1100 per night.

Regardless of the ship, that is still way more than the cost of a standard room on a per night basis on one of the bigger ships. It is also more than a lot of JS and GS per night on the larger ships.

I agree when you are spending $1000 per night on a cabin they could throw in a few perks.

Edited to add for $8050 for 2 people (just over $1000 per night can get sky class OS oasis with plenty of perks) sailing Jan 29th!

  5. Petition won't matter . Dollars will

I'm not sure I understand this statement. RCL knows ppl are choosing other lines to cruise out here on the West Coast.

How do we prove we can fill the ships until they put great ships out here. As noted previously, all the ships that are currently running here are sold out.

We found we prefer to cruise the big ships and we can only do that from the East Coast, so we fly there. If our choice is not available locally, how do we show with our dollars?

And yes, I signed the petition.

  6. Sorry to report you will at the whim of whatever games ESPN International Carribbean happens to carry. They're most likely to carry a few of the games that are national broadcasts listed here...this list is added to regularly:

    http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/broadcasts/national.jsp?tcid=mm_mlb_schedule

Third, I'm sorry to say my own experience probably isn't comforting to you - last October I sailed on Celebrity Summit the week of the ALCS. NONE of the games were available on board. ESPN International Caribbean only carried the NLCS! I couldn't believe that the second last round of playoffs for 'Americas Pastime' wasn't available on an American cruise ship!

Actually the ship is registered out of Malta, so it's a Maltese ship. Anyway, we have Dish anywhere and with their app, I was able to stream, without interruption several Sacramento Kings basketball games in January. Perhaps your provider has a remote app?
  7. .......................this just gave me horrible flashbacks to my high school SAT math question of " A train leaves station A at 11:45. Another train leaves station B at 1:15. If.......blah, blah, blah............excuse me I need to rid my mind of this "problem"......I wish I had 3 free drinks NOW......

Hahahahhahaha... I have a MS in Statistics (I know, lies, damn lies and statistics) and I thought exactly the same thing!!!

  8. I lived in Hilo for 2 years and have been to all the islands, but new husband had not. We did a RT and had 5 ports. He was able to get a small taste of 4 islands and he found out how different they all are.

Now he knows the islands on which he wants to spend more time and areas we can skip (Honolulu- always been my least favorite... save your money and go to San Diego!)

  9. I'm betting space might be a concern. Storing tons of bags of chips would take up huge amounts of space and they are fragile. If they get squished, folks will complain about getting bags of crumbs!

Most ships seem to have cans of Pringles in the store. Overpriced but when you need some crunchy. :) We bring a couple of cans with us.
