Carnival stock is the same price per share as it was in 1996.  Too bad cruise costs aren't.

If dividends were less than $10 a year total, the IRS does not require that you report it.

Yeah they have these great midnight buffet's they spend hours making with ice sculptures and sometimes they let you see it an hour before and people wait in line just to see it and... oh wait, I think I'm having a flashback. Nevermind.

Wow, you summed us up in a few sentences perfectly.  15 - 20 years ago, cruises were very special, and the fact that we were in an exotic cruise city for only 4 hours was acceptable.  But once the special cruise food and service disappeared, over those 15 - 20 years, we realized you see SO much more with a land tour. You meet more people and REALLY see the places you want to explore. Sure buses or trains are not cruise ships, but the touring experience is SO MUCH better. Our most memorable trips are not the cruises.  We loved cruises but all we loved is now an extra cost option, if it even exists at all.

I agree with you on the selloff of Costa. Its like when you sell your home, but can't part with that painting over your sofa. Remove it before the new buyers see it.

You just have to be creative. Bloody Marys are not that bad. Otherwise diet soda and most alcohol. You could also use club soda, alcohol, and powdered drink mixes. Its really not that hard actually.

Wait a few days after the cruise starts to ask.  By then, maybe you can get a room where the owner has been moved to COVID quarantine and the room is now available.  

On all the cruises I have been on during holidays, I have always been disappointed by the lack of celebration, even non-religious holidays. I think the moral is, cruise ships are not the best place to spend holidays that are important to you.

What makes you think things have changed in the last 20 years?  Everything is included, and of course, you don't pay for anything. NOT. 

No, we have been cruising for 30 years, and the last 10 were the worst with very excessive nickel-and-dimming,  but it's interesting, post COVID will be a new game entirely.  Already there are changes, for example, Celebrity will be mostly inclusive. So only time will tell what post-Covid turns out to be.

So back to your list, 

1) premium dining

Yeah, in the last 20 years, restaurants, at least free ones, have gone down-hill.  Days of lobster every night for dinner are gone (unless you go on Oceania).  Some cruise lines even will charge additional for some things, like steak. So free dining is OK, you get what you pay for. Most other restaurants cost extra. A few don't, most do. 

2) spa

I don't use this, but you will hear sales pitches for the spa from the second you get on the boat. Apparently it's a big profit center for cruises. 

3) casino 

Pretty much the same as before. 

4) formal nights (still ?)

Not many if any. They apparently departed, and took the lobsters with them.  

5) pool scene (seams that this large ship has plenty of deck space)

Pre-Covid, if you didn't get up at 6am and "reserve" a chair, you wouldn't have one. Maybe post Covid, everyone gets one, at least 6 feet apart. The pool will have an occupancy limit now.

6) entertainment-shows, karaoke, dancing

Mixed. The longer shows are mostly gone. Now the shows are shorter, and a few you have to pay for, most you have to reserve in advance, especially post-Covid.

7) private island - what is the best area to relax and has a quiet area?

Did these exist 20 years ago?  Your on your own here.

Sounds like a good plan, at least it was pre-Covid.  Do realize now, with one positive test, you could be confined to your indoor cabin for the whole cruise.  You might consider a balcony, so you at least sit outside during your confinement. 

Maybe 50-50 for a June cruise. I'd say Sept. might be a good bet but only 7 days or less. And you'll need proof of vaccine to go.
