  1. I made the tickets. Buy-in was $20. Top player had 300+ win and walked away with $281. 2nd place received $168. We then had random drawings for 10 bottles of wine and 3rd place, which was $112.

We cashed out $15 each for the individual tickets.

Ticket format worked great - no lists to maintain.

Was the Slot Pull done on ONE machine? If so, that's a miracle..:)

    Good job!!

  2. On my last cruise, I bought some JW Blue and Sheridans. I on the Gem next week and plan to restock. Are there any good buys that you look for when you're shopping for liquor on board?

We spoke with manager of liquor store on ship and confirmed that if we found cheaper prices on islands would they match...we took pics of sale price on island and they reissued our sale on ship to cheaper price.

  3. ;)

A question to you guys the veteran NCL cruisers ...

Does NCL allow honey (in commercially packaged bottles) to be brought on board?

    How about bottled maple syrup?

I ask because I like to use honey for my coffee and tea, maple syrup for my pancakes and waffles. While the ship may provide these condiments, I cannot be certain that they don't contain ingredients that I can't consume, such as high fructose corn syrup, etc. Hence, I want to bring my own *pure* sweetners.

I use to bring a bottle on honey but now bring Manuka honey that I got on Amazon that comes in individual serving sealed envelopes..Lighter weight and better honey.

  4. My understanding is Choir of Man is scheduled for NCL Escape starting April. Other shows are getting more time off ..so less shows for Brat Pack and After Midnight.

    Choir of Man tweet:

Upon finishing their Australian tour, the Choir of Man will take to the seas on the Norwegian Escape, entertaining cruise audiences around the Caribbean.

  5. On embarkment day, was wondering while waiting for our room what do we do with our one suitcase with our swimsuit/medication/important papers change of clothes? Is there lockers? We are first timers

I bring my bag up to my room and put important stuff in safe and put bag in closet or under bed. If steward is cleaning, I explain I'm just dropping stuff off. Never had a problem.

  6. I got the Norwegian card for the bonus points with the intent of using them for the gratuities (or daily service charge as I guess it is called) but am now discovering I can't use the OBC I get from the points for this which is such a huge bummer.

By the time of my trip, I will have about 20,000 points to use so $200 OBC. What have others done in this situation? Does it really not work for the service charges when you get your final bill? Should I cash out the OBC in the casino as others have suggested? Any other ideas?

OBC from NCL credit card can be used to pay daily gratuity. Been doing it for years. OBC you get from NCL you cannot use to pay daily gratuity.

  7. Hi,

I am looking at either the 12 day Denali by Rail Explorer Southbound tour from Fairbanks.

    or

12 day Denali-Alyeska Explorer Southbound from Anchorage. Both depart 7/26/18.

Both tours do Tundra wilderness tours and Dog Mushing visit and have train rides .

Anchorage has train to Denali. Fairbanks has that and Denali to takneeta and Denali to Fairbanks.

Is the Northern Train part a MUST do???

My concern is even though we will see more of Alaska obviously leaving from Fairbanks.......

The Tundra Wilderness tour is after the train ride from Fairbanks to Denali.

And cruise day is Train to Takneeta And Bus to Anchorage.

So that is a LOT of sitting.

Has anyone done the long rail journey? Is it a smooth ride? Worth it?

Other tour seems more relaxing but sees less. Although relaxing one also has tram to top of Mt Alyeska and Alaska Wildlife Conservation Ctr. Longer Rail Fairbanks tour goes to Anchorage Zoo.

    Thanks

    Kerri

We've done the train ride from Fairbanks twice and would do it again. Yes, all that activity is a lot but beautiful. Talkeetna is a great town. First time in Talkeetna we went there there were only a few shops and no paved roads. Now Talkeetna is so built up as is Denali area from our first trip. When you get on ship you can rest.. We did end of Aug/Sept. Weather was below 25- 80.

  8. We started out with cubes but now use 2 1/2 gallon Ziploc bags. Put outfits together in each bag. Works like a charm. Been to Alaska twice. First time with cubes..second time with bags. Bags worked better for us :)

  9. When you have OBC there are two categories.

Refundable-you may get this back if you don't spend it all.

    Non--Refundable--Use it or loose it.

How does NCL determine which category to use when NCL deducts the daily Service Charge?

Do they take the Service Charge from the Refundable first, then the Non-Refundable?

    or

Do they ever use Non-Refundable for Service Charges?

Thanks for helping in answering this question.

OBC from NLC & TA cannot be used on gratuity..OBC from NCL Credit Card points can be used for gratiuity...Spoke with NCL and points dept this week on the very subject...

  10. Thanks for the information!

BTW, i'm a Jersey Girl from Hackettstown, NJ! I recently retired to SC!!

Can't wait to get back to Bermuda, even if it is only for 5 days!!![/QU

I bet you don't miss the Jersey Winters...

Hackettstown is not what it use to be..

  11. We are a group of 11, what would be the best way to get to horseshoe bay? We have 4 children ages 7-16. would we have to split into 2 shuttles and is it same price as adults?Just thinking with everyone might be harder to get on buses.I have read that shuttle drops off at bottom of a hill how long of a walk is this?

If you take the bus, you get dropped off at the entrance road. You have to walk down a long hill. Going back you walk up to catch the bus.

Shuttle brings you right down to the beach-no walking up or down hill. We were there 2014 and took the shuttle. When we got in the shuttle to go back to the ship it started to rain. It was pouring by time we got to top of hill. There were many people waiting for the bus in the pouring rain without umbrellas.

In 2014 the shuttle was $16pp rt. I don't recall if there was a cheaper rate for kids.
