Yes - I got my email today.  Still not sure we want to cancel.  This will definitely be a 48 hour decision.  I may watch the cancellations with fake bookings towards the end of next week.  And of course, I'll wait for your full trip report when you get back to ease my mind. 😉

Currently on the ship, and my thoughts are “meh” this won’t go down as my favorite cruise by far. They’re Implementing new procedures as they go, the buffet for example you can’t get what you want, and staff has to serve you.

It’s not too bad, but it’s a little nerve racking.

  2. Hello, I'm currently aboard the NCL Joy, and the wifi here is abysmal, to the point where getting anywhere near 1-4mbps is pure luck. I've subscribed to their, unlimited streaming plan, and at this point I'd be more comfortable calling it the unlimited buffering plan... but I digress.

This isn't my first cruise, and this isn't the first time I've purchased unlimited internet. What I will say is the speeds are so abysmally slow, and when speaking to the internet manager wasn't helpful, as his response was, "oh it's satellite internet". When I cruised back in November 2018, on the sister ship the bliss I was getting during peak times, download speeds of 14 mbps, and at off peak times speed of 40 plus.

At this point, i’m just not sure what I can do.

  3. I've been on many a cruise, and always forgot to pack some high end TP.

Does the cruise line offer more premium TP than what's standard / normally available in the rooms (I'm in a balcony).

I sincerely doubt people paying 40k for the the haven suites are subject to the sandpaper currently provided in the the cheaper rooms, but are their other options?

    Many thanks.

So, that is not the cheapest NCL insurance. There are cheaper plans that NCL sells.

You would get 100% of your port taxes and fees refunded. You would get 100% of any pre-paid expenses refunded (shoreex, pre-paid service charges, upgrade charges, dining charges). You would pay 100% penalty on your cruise fare.

Once you cancel, you will get a receipt from NCL showing the 100% penalty on your cruise fare, you will file an insurance claim documenting why you cancelled.

If the insurance company denies your claim, NCL will give you a 75% future cruise credit.

Again, you need to double check on what insurance you purchased.

Thanks for that info! At this point everything seems to point to going!

  5. While I understand cruise line is (seemingly) taking precautionary measure, is it really safe / logical to take a 7 day cruise to Mexico with 4500 people in relatively close quarters during what seems to be a high stress developing epidemic?

If I have to cancel what are my options I chose the cheapest insurance method directly through NCL?

    Thanks greatly,

Don't know when your cruise is, but weather will warm up in the next month.  January, did need a light jacket outside on the Ship, except in Mexico.  Was windy coming back to san Pedro,

    It's March 08.

I mean It gets cold at night regardless, at least on the balcony! I was more curious about the ship vs the actual cruise as I've only been on the Mexican rivera cruise, though sadly not on any other cruise.

The actual room size between the mini suite and regular balcony appears to be the same.  I believe the 30 extra sqft is in the bathroom.   Much bigger than the regular balcony suite. We were undecided which to book until we saw a video on youtube and saw the size of the bathroom.  Larger shower and vanity with more storage space under the sink.

That's what I though too, I booked a mini suite before and it felt the same as the balcony. Honestly I would of paid the upgrade fee if there was a bigger balcony, but alas, I don't terribly feel comfortable taking baths on a cruise ship.

We were on the Joy, January this year, 15th Deck, the Observation Lounge is on this Deck, it is the best location.  the first 2 days passengers had not discovered this fabulous place, then it got crowded. we had cabin 15180, we did hear noise above in the early morning, cabin was above the Gym area,  Have been on the Bliss, very much the same, have been on the Jewel, completely different Class of Ship, much smaller, but we have a cruise booked on the Jewel, starting to appreciate the smaller Ships.   We were in a mii suite on the Joy.   Had the Beverage Pkg., no problem getting drinks, good service.  The food is different for everyone, ate in the MDR 4 nights, no problem, had Specialty dining in Cagney's, Le Bistro, and La Cucina, our group of 6 enjoyed.  Yes some entrées could have been better, but nobody left hungry.   Had no problem with the wifi, we were only checking emails from family though.   The view from out mini suite, was unobstructed, a view of the Ocean??   Enjoy

Honestly I was thinking of booking a mini suite, but it was an extra $200 bucks for about 30 sqft more space, so we decided against it. I personally also enjoy the smaller ships more as well, which is why we booked so quickly only to find out that we misread. We also have the dining and drinking package. I ask about the wifi because I bought unlimited package for an extra $210 because I like staying connected, when I have the package and an iPhone in my pocket I feel less phantom buzzes.

Is there anything you'd expressly recommend trying no matter what?

  9. Hello all!

I just book another Mexican Rivera cruise, this time instead of the Bliss, it's the Joy. When I was booking I though, I thought that I was booking on the Jewel. Does anyone have any opinions on Bliss, vs Jewel, vs Joy? I'm particularly curious about:

    The Room sizes.

I've booked a balcony, on the 15 floor, how are the views?

How loud or is the 15th floor?

    How's the food?

    How are the drinks?

    How fast is the Wifi?

    Many thanks,

FYI:  My reply was to the OP who indicated they wanted to do Black Friday shopping...  not you in particular...

I didn't mean to offend / take over this thread. ( Sorry @coopster ) I was genuinely curious as this is always an issue / pain point for me.

My question is, why is the pizza so terrible on NCL? I've cruised across several different cruise lines and the pizza on NCL is by far the worst. It's not even close.

I mean I'm sure it all depends on their investment. The pizza in the above picture looks fairly appetizing. It looks like to cut costs they're making dough in house which is quite nice (if the flavor is there) , w/ economies of scale being a huge factor in every decision they make, it may turn out to be decent or they might be skimping on simple ingredients like cheese and tomatoes, making it a mess.

Why did I go off on this tangent at 4am? I have no clue but there it is...

I'll report back when / if I get a fresh slice.

I live in a small midwestern city.  I can get much better pizza at three places within two blocks of where I live.  If you're over 12, pizza is a food to avoid on NCL, in my opinion.  Much better choices in every venue.

I was once on a Carnival cruise where they were making it all from scratch and using "buffalo" mozzarella. It was incredibly good. Ever since that, nothing was ever as good (on a ship)
