  1. You're at $500/night for a balcony. With grats and the drink package, it's not bad (but not great) for Alaska. Remember, if prices drop, you can also get the lower price.
I would price out other cruise lines to compare. The ship is not very important in Alaska, it's about sightseeing and touring so HAL, Princess, or RCCL are also great.
  2. Sorry to disagree. We went to Shipwreck last Feb, got out of our cab and looked around. The place was a mess; I the cabbie suggested that we let him drive us down the beach to Carabola, which better represented the beauty of his island. We did and had a great time, beautiful location and good bar and restaurant. BTW, the pictures above are not very appealing for a day at the beach

  3. I don't understand discussing shootings in cruise ports at all?

IF tourists discussed every shooting in the USA they probably wouldn't visit any city there at all!

What would you rather discuss, the dress code in the MDR. I think it is pretty important for everyone to understand the potential dangers they could encounter.

  4. Seems to me that Celebrity seems to be sourcing more and more food from Sysco type companies. The food quality has gone down and down over the past few years. X seems more concerned about building fancier ships with more extra pay venues then maintaining a high quality product. Service is worse, food quality is worse, live quality acts are disappearing and being replaced with canned music and DJs. All very sad.

Sysco is not the problem, they provide the quality level that is requested. I do agree that the quality is less than in the past, I even think the specialty restaurants have cut quality.

  5. If you cannot sort pre cruise, go and see the M'D straight after boarding outside the MDR. He will have a queue of people wanting to swap back and forwards.

I would not see this situation as a deal breaker, lots of chances to swap, and even if you can't you can still prebook your dining time each night and request the same waiters.

Agree, going to the M'D upon boarding has always solved any dining issues we may have had. Surely no reason to cancel a cruise.

  6. February is s great time to cruise. We have cruised many times on Royal and a few times on X I disagree about X ships being a step above Royal, you are getting this because you are on a Celebrity board. Both lines are very nice, X is a little more subdued, Royal a little more fun but the differences are minor. Food is the same, entertainment better on Royal, and X has nicer deck chairs. We find X a little more relaxing. Both lines are near capacity in Feb on our last 10 cruises but both handle crowds well
