  1. In general I wonder what it is that requires those who have bought and payed for a privilege to have to defend themselves?

It should make no difference to anyone what someone else thinks. If you want a suite and can afford it, great...and when what was promised does not materialize, not so great.

You are right. The issue just seems so petty when you look at all the problems in the world

  2. you beat me to it. I do not understand the fascination on who gets what and how much they make. Do all these people consider how much the servers in the restaurants in their area make and eat at specific ones based on this? Or when purchasing a tv, how much money does the salesman at best buy make? Really it is a vacation, sit back and relax

I have the same thoughts. Some people on cruise critic are way too involved in the lives of the crew.

  3. A land tour is the best way to see Alaska without a doubt. We did a 10 day land and 4 day cruise with HAL and the experience on the cruise was much different than really seeing the interior

  4. There is one major different between the two lines and that is in RCCL's use of the word "suggested". Celebrity's wording leaves a little less room for interpretation.

I don't consider this a major difference. Have recently been on both and I don't see any significant difference in the actual level of dress.

  5. I'm in agreement with you. Not in keeping with the Celebrity image and more in line with mass-market lines that are known for nickel and diming. Celebrity wants to promote itself as "modern luxury" and this isn't the way to do it. Apparently the grass isn't always greener on Celebrity!

While it will have no effect on me as I rarely order room service at any time of the day or night, it does open the door for more of these types of fees and that is my concern. Then it becomes of question of what makes Celebrity a step above other lines? One little change doesn't seem like much but start adding them up and the product becomes diluted.

These fees are also a way for Celebrity to gauge the impact of these types of charges. Most people seem to say they don't care so that opens the door for more of the same.

Celebrity is a mass market cruise line. Check the pricing, it is in line with HAL, RCCL, NCL, etc

  6. Most of the specialty restaurants on the cruiselines (not just Celebrity) have had their prices rise. However, they are still a good value compared to what you would pay and what you would receive on land. Not Bistro on Five though. I don't see where it's a good value. I could get something similar on a land-based restaurant for less (unless I ordered multiple portions).

We ate there when it was $5. It was good ... not great. We avoided the crowd at the buffet on embarkation. We won't eat there for $10 even with a substantial OBC. (OMG I really sound cheap, don't I).

I disagree. If you compare most steakhouses on cruise ships, like the Tuscan Grille, the food quality and service is no where near the good land based steakhouses. I think their value has really diminished in the last 5 years
