  1. Hi

Thank you for all the replies, very helpful. We just thought we would try something different closer to home.

Am I correct in assuming that the "Celebrity Signature Dry Age" section of the menu in Fine Cut is an additional charge to the charge you have paid to get in?

  2. Hi

We are looking at doing a Celebrity cruise in November from Sydney to New Zealand roundtrip on Edge. We have cruised before on Regent, Silversea and Seabourn. Not cruised with Celebrity since the 90's. We have decided on an Aqua Sky Suite which will give us the Retreat. Looking forward to it but a bit nervous that right decision has been made!!

Would like to hear about the Celebrity experience in the Retreat, any hints and tips we need to know to make the most of our "new" experience.

Does the premium drinks package include French Champagne, it mentions Champagne but there are so many "champagnes" out there but not real French. What brand do they use?

Should we do a dining package or wait until onboard?

Never cruised to New Zealand, only been in Caribbean and Med before, what should we expect with crossing from Sydney to NZ?

Being the size it is, does the ship feel crowded? Only been on maximum 700 passengers before.

    Thanks in advance

  3. Hi

There is no way to activate the TV to do it, you can't access the settings section or main menu of the TV. We were on Grandeur in Jan/Feb and as an experiment I took a Samsung remote control with me in the hope that I could access the input section so I could link my MacBook but even that did not work. System seems pretty tightly shut to just Regent system.

If I remember correctly in the past the first step was to turn on airplane mode

    Hi

Unless anything has changed since our last Regent cruise, you don't need to turn on airplane mode.

If you take photos using your iPhone camera it won't be able to geo-tag the photos with a location so you won't know where they are taken. Airplane mode turns off the GPS chip.

Turn off Mobile (Settings - Mobile - Mobile Data) so you don't get charged roaming. Then make sure WiFi is on and connect to the ships network. This is how I have done it on our past Regent cruises.

  5. You will love Splendor, we were on it last Jan/Feb. Specialty restaurants are Prime 7 (Steakhouse) Chartreuse (French) and Pacific Rim (Asian) you need reservations for all. All are very good so just depends on whether you like the style of food they offer. The other "specialty" is Sette Mari which is Italian and works on a first come basis, it is one side of La Veranda. The main dining room is Compass Rose and that is also very good.

They are rolling it out onto the other ships in the Club. There is a thread further down the page where the first ship it was rolled out onto was Odyssey. Quest and Sojourn will also have it included.

    Hi

I think they are now serving sushi in the club not making it a restaurant.

    Seabourn website states:

"Sushi is available on Seabourn Encore and Seabourn Ovation. Currently there are no plans to open Sushi on Seabourn Venture, Seabourn Pursuit, Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn or Seabourn Quest."

  7. We requested Gin and Whiskey, only Whiskey in the suite on arrival but spoke to room attendant and the gin appeared that evening. What really impressed me was I requested a specific Pale Ale from a Miami brewery and they got it so top marks to them!!! 😁

  8. But money spent does not guarantee anything!! Just because a person can afford the fare does not mean they will be a nice, well dressed person unfortunately.

The money we just spent for our 32 night Splendor cruise did not get us nice passengers for the first 14 days, especially the guy who went on a rant with all kinds of foul language because we had dared to sit on his chaise that he had reserved for 3 hours!! There was no respect for my wife and I!!! I think Covid has made some people very grumpy and rude if things don't go their way. Management also commented on it being the worst cruise for passenger behaviour ever experienced. Luckily the next 2 cruises improved to what you would expect of a Regent cruise. Dress code was still pushed to the limit sometimes though!!

  9. We were on the same cruise as Lew and suffered the worst abuse for daring to claim an empty chaise.

It had been held from 7.30am (maybe earlier but that was when we arrived) we settled onto single loungers, after 90 minutes I asked the pool staff if it was ok to take the chaise, which we did. At 10.30am the "owner" arrived and went into an expletive rampage at both my wife and I that we had "stolen" his chaise and that I was a bully and lucky for me he was small otherwise would have taken me on!!

You would not believe the language that came out of this guys mouth. I was always taught to respect my elders but this guy blew that out of the park, he was at least 75-80 and just went off. I tried to explain that there was a 30 minute policy and he should see the pool attendants, but he would not listen. After reducing my wife to tears he went off, claimed another 2 loungers and then disappeared. Apparently moaning to anyone that would listen in La Veranda. He then returned and decided to have another go, calling me a bully with yet more "F" words thrown in, this time I videoed him (was too gobsmacked and shocked to get the original rant)

I went to see the GM and showed him the video and he apologised and would try and track the passenger down. By this time my wife had decided we were getting off when we got back to Miami the next day (this was the first cruise of 3 b2b) as she did not want to put up with this behaviour for another 2 cruises. Luckily the GM reported back that the offender was getting off in Miami so my wife decided to carry on. The GM was so apologetic but as I told him it was not him that needed to apologise. He also mentioned that that first sector was the worst he had experienced for passenger behaviour. Luckily things did improve and the next 2 sectors were a much better experience.

As a footnote to the 30 minute policy the repeat offenders who had their belongings removed and complained loudly to staff and anyone else that they could get to listen were the ones that caused this policy to be bought in in the first place but just did not seem to understand this, I had to constantly bite my tongue as they moaned!!!

Another guy thought he was everyones "best mate" and would hold 2 chaise daily for his friends to have at their leisure!! He lost his chaise one day, "but I was only 35 minutes" to which the pool attendant told him it was an hour and 35 minutes. He disappeared for a couple of days and I heard him telling someone he had boycotted the pool deck due to his treatment!! If only these people followed the policy there would be harmony!!

We are now reassessing our next 2 Regent cruises as we pay too much money to have a holiday that is not enjoyable due to other selfish people.
