Going on a Cruise in a few weeks. Starting in Rome and going to Amalfi Coast (Salerno), Sicily (Messina), Santorini, Ephesus, Mykonos and end up in Athens. I am getting conflicting information on if the ship stays on Rome Time the entire cruise or if they change to local time at the ports. We have a few Private Tours set up and just want to make sure I have everything correct. Thanks.

Jumping on this. We have a Land & Sea Tour on our European Cruse. Booked through RCCL. Cost was $150 per person. At first I was thinking 20% but now thinking that may be a bit much. (there is 7 of us going in our group).

According to the website my check in date is March 31st. (our cruise is May 15th from Rome). Would the check in time still be Midnight EST on this? Or does it go by the time of where the cruise leaves from?

I have a free night certificate for Marriott. So, would like to book a Marriott hotel for our pre-cruise hotel in September. Looking for best location to walk to shops/restaurants etc. Only 2 of us. Me and my SIL. Seems there are 3 to 4 in the area. Just not familiar with the area and what the best one would be. Thanks.

Thank You. That helps alot and kind of what I figured was the case. So we will keep the order of things as they are. What times do the shops normally open? We are leaving at 8. Are they open before 9? Wonder if we should change to be picked up at 7:30.

lyOk -another question. Getting ready to book this with a tour with a guide only at Pompeii. Right now they have us going to Sorrento and Positano first (pick up at 8am). Then on to Pompeii with the guide meeting us at 1:45 - leaving at 3:45 ish then back to the ship by 4:45 or so. (Ship leaves at 6). Seems Pompeii is further from the port than the other 2 stops - but is the traffic better coming from Pompeii than Sorrento/Positano? Was thinking we should do Pompeii first but maybe this is a better way? Do the shops close in the afternoons for a bit. Thought I read that they close from like 1-3. If so, then maybe that is why Pompeii is last. Should we move up Pompeii to 1:00 just to give us a little more wiggle room coming back or is that not an issue?

Looks like we are going to do a Private Tour with AP Tours. Going to Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano. We have the following options: 1. Driver only 2 . Driver W/Guide in Pompeii Only 3. Driver W/ Full Day Guide I know we would want a guide in Pompeii for sure, but is it necessary to have one in Sorrento and Positano. Or are we able to just wander around on our own and a guide is not needed in those places?

Thanks for all the info. Very helpful. We are on RCCL. I have mostly done Carnival Cruises to the Caribbean and for those we always stayed on ships time. Just wasn't sure if different for Europe Cruises.

My brother is a bit apprehensive of using outside tour companies other than RCCL. But seems all the companies I am using are pretty well known and have great reviews. He is just worried about something happening and not making back to the ship on time. But since we are in our own private groups - I feel like we are in control of times. Anyone ever have any issues with this? 2. Is the ship docked at these ports or we tendered in (RCCL Enchantment) 3. Assuming we stay on ships time always. We are starting in Rome. So, when setting up meeting times with the tour companies I need to take into account the time changes. Looks like Greece is 1 hour ahead of Italy and Turkey is 2 hours ahead of Italy. Assuming the tour companies go by their local time when setting up tours - so, I need to be aware of ships time/local time when arranging plans? Thanks everyone for all your help!!

Holy Crap - and I thought our traffic was bad!! How long does it take on the ferry? I am thinking we may need to do a private tour. Would like to possibly go to Pompeii and possibly one other place on Amalfi coast if time.

We are here from 7am to 6pm. We do like to have private tours for our group of 7. The ships tours don't have many listed for here, unless they add more. So, looking for reputable tour companies that others have used. Google brings up so many....

Looks like Amalfi Coast is Salerno. Sicily is Messina Someone recommended ephesusporttour.com. So will probably do something with them. Mykonos - Will probably walk around and do our own thing. So, that leaves what to do for the Italy stops.

Going on Med Cruise in May. First time to Europe. Group consists of Me, Husband, Son 24, Daughter 21, Son's Girlfriend 22 then My Brother and SIL. My son is paying for his and his girlfriends cruise -but we are paying for all the tours/transportation for the 5 of us. We have some tours set up but don't really want to do a tour at every stop. Can anyone tell me if there are some stops that are better for roaming around on our own or any suggestions at each port. We Fly into Rome a few days early. We have transportation, hotel and tours already set up for Rome. Cruise Stops: Amalfi Coast - Nothing yet Sicily - Nothing yet Santorini - Have Tour set up plus a photo session. Son is going to propose to girlfriend here. Ephesus - Nothing yet Mykonos - Nothing yet The Cruise ends in Athens. We are here for a few days after the cruise. I watched this entire 2 hour live video yesterday (while watching football). Was fun to see all the new areas. We are on the December 11th sailing. Cannot wait!!

He has DOU all of over the ship (so Cheers) but just for him. That is what I thought but just wanted to make sure nothing had changed. Just a bummer she has to pay more because she has to wait to board.
