Another option is to purchase regular travel insurance that has the medical coverage you want, but don't insure the entire cost of the trip. This reduces the cost of the policy but does not reduce the medical care and evacuation coverage limits.

For example I buy a policy but instead of insuring the trip for the actual cost of $4,000 I will insure it for $500. The insurance costs a lot less and the medical coverage is exactly the same. The only thing you lose is the reimbursement if you have to cancel your trip. I would insure for $1 but the cost for this policy is the same for $1 to $500 of coverage (and the same for $501 to $1,000, etc.)

Edited to add: Since you are not covering the cost of the cruise for cancelation reasons you can wait to buy the policy until a few days before you leave.

This is brilliant. I never thought to reduce that actual cost of the my trip. I purchased the medical insurance before seeing this post - $62 for the three of us.  But I will definitely consider for the future. Thank you all for your assistance.

  2. I am looking to purchase travel insurance however, I mostly interested in medical insurance than anything else. I am not concerned with anything else such as trip interruption or baggage.  I had a friend who had a stroke in Jamaica while on vacation and it was a nightmare to get him back to the States.  Has anyone ever just bought travel medical insurance instead of comprehensive?  Am I making a mistake not getting comprehensive insurance? I am past the time period for cancel any time option.

I am sailing in 28 days. We were going to carry on two bottles of wine.  However, i just tried a passion fruit sangria that I want to bring instead but the bottle comes with a twist top, not a core.  Would that be a problem? The link that addresses wine states a  "sealed" bottle. The sangria will be unopened but when I think sealed, I think core and wrapper. Any thoughts? Also is it ok to bring sangria instead of wine?

  4. I am sailing with my daughter (17) in March.  I am trying to choose RCCL excursion at both ports. I don't want to go on my own when it is just she and I. Many of the excursions seem very similar so we are having a hard time choosing. For those that have experienced any of the RCCL Aruba or Curacao excursions which have been your favorite?

Figure $300 to 400 (max) for a drink package for 4 nighter and then compare total price to a resort.  Most everything else is included onboard unless you want specialty restaurants.  I’ve done an all inclusive and much prefer cruising.   Others feel differently.

I personally wouldn’t leave my teens on their own nowadays in most of the counties these all inclusive resorts exist.

I agree. I have done both and I also prefer cruising. My brother hasn't so I wanted to give him a different option.

  6. I am trying to get my brother to book a 4-night RCCL.  His kids are 17 and 13. I think they would have a better time on a cruise than on a resort. However, my brother is stuck on drinks not being included in the price. Is there a way to have some idea of the cost of the drink package before he commits so he can tally that into the cost?

  7. Having just returned, I can speak based on my experience.  We took the shuttle to Seaworld.  We arrived at 2:20pm.  We purchased tickets on Groupon and printed them at home.  They were able to scan the bar code and we went straight in. There were no lines and we were able to experience almost everything. We were back on the bus before 7pm. My only compliant was many of the food vendors were closed but besides that it worked out prefect for us.  I would not do Disney or Universal with this amount of time.  I watched folks looking at the Disney and Universal apps as we were waiting in the Royal Theater. There were 60-120 minute wait times for the popular attractions.

I don't know how the crowds will be in summer months at SeaWorld. However, SeaWorld could be an option.
