But what made it so strange was that we didn't initiate the request. They did.

There is a "street" or maybe you'd call it an alley that runs along the railroad tracks between the parking lot and the Outlet Mall. You may have to start driving on it quite a ways from the actual lot, past the back of the convention center and the cruise port buildings. I don't think you can drive on Julia Street.

*TURNING SARCASM ON*
What! You mean if you read the NCL website it gives the answers to all your cruise questions?
Sorry to jump in but I find that most posts in here could be easily unposted if people actually read the NCL site. I did exactly that after booking my cruise.
I think half the posts on this thread could be unposted if they just read all the duplicate answers.

Agree. But why even offer the contact numbers?

In regards to wonderful tablemates, we shared a table every night on a Viking Cruise with a wonderful couple. Friendly, polite, interesting. Everything you'd want in a new friend.
They gave us their home phone number and their email address. Even invited us to contact them and spent some time at their home.
Both the phone number and email address were fake.

Tiny mall? It seems quite large to me.
We parked in the "Whale Lot" right next to the cruise port on our last cruise out of NOLA and I think it was $140 for the week. I'm sure someone will correct me if that isn't right. If you decide to park there, make sure you go in from the rear of the lot and not directly off Convention Center Blvd. We went in the wrong way and it would have cost us about $400 for the week if I hadn't noticed a sign.

Is that everything in the onion family?
While members of the onion family have slightly different characteristics, they prefer similar growing conditions--light, sandy soil, even moisture and full sun.
Onions. ...
Bunching Onions. ...
Chives. ...
Shallots. ...
Leeks. ...
Garlic.

She can eat garlic but doesn't like it much. Even chives are a no-no.

We've had good luck on both Princess and RCI which are far from "luxury" cruiselines.
Our DIL has a violent allergic reaction to onion. Like others have posted, meeting with the Head Waiter the night before to either choose or special order items without onions worked perfectly.
She was able to do breakfast easily, both the buffet and the dining rooms. Lunch in the buffet was tricky but she managed.
Admittedly, avoiding milk would be even trickier.

LOL. My dyslexia kicked in and I read that as "June with 15 kids."

We missed a connection once due to a line to get planes de-iced at the originating airport. In the winter, you just don't know what all can go wrong.

We ran into a couple once who always had a portrait taken in their bathrobes on forma night.

If you've cruised extensively and don't want to provide the number perhaps, "So many cruises I don't recall the exact number" would shut them up.
I like that answer.

We avoid shared tables because my husband is quite hard of hearing and can't participate in conversation if there is too much distance between him and whoever is talking.
Question: How do you answer if someone asks you if you cruise much? We try to reply in a neutral way, but sometimes people ask how many cruises and I feel like we are bragging. Would you fib about it?

Three couples come to mind.
The first bad couple were the last to arrive at our table for eight. The woman said, "You'd think they would seat us suite passengers with better people."
The second bad couple both ordered everything on the menu every night. They would take a bite or two of each dish. Always tons of wasted food.
The third couple wasn't too terrible every night, but got into a bad argument one night over her charges at the spa. He grabbed her by the arm and shook her.

Actually, our our most recent Breakaway cruise our toilet flushed TOO well. If you lifted the lid before it was done flushing, it would overflow and you played heck getting the water to stop.

I can vouch for the concierges knowing the Haven passengers by sight. Way back when it was new, I guess, the elevator button still said "Climbing Wall" when it was actually the Haven. There was a concierge on the elevator with us, I guess, and he quickly told us we couldn't go to that floor. First thought? Change the darn elevator button.
And on our last cruise we were offered a tour of the Haven at the Platinum Officer's Dinner. We declined.

Quite a bit off subject, but I'll always have a warm spot in my heart for Atlantis.
We were there when 9/11 happened. We saw groups of employees standing around with bibles praying for the victims. The resort treated us so well. Reduced "calamity" rates for rooms, free internet, free phone service. A room dedicated to helping people reach relatives back home. I overheard them making arrangements for a man to take a cruise ship back to Miami so he could try to get back to his mother who lived in Manhattan and was terrified.

One problem I have with cruises, even the 7-day ones, is that I actually get sick of eating. You look at the clock and think, "Oh Lordy ... do I have to go eat AGAIN."

We've been to Playa Mia on Cozumel three or four times. The only time we didn't enjoy it was when there was a Disney Ship in port. It seemed like all the families with small children went there. Not that I don't like children. Just not TOO many of them.

I know there are those that will disagree, but if you decide to take the ferry to the mainland from Cozumel I'd stick with a ship sponsored tour. The ferry could easily run late and possibly make you miss the ship. If it is a ship's tour they would more likely wait for you to return.

Hmmm. For years my husband has suffered what we call his "spells." Dizziness (but not vertigo), sweating and pale skin. Lasts about a day. I've always suspected low blood sugar but something to do with his inner ear sounds possible, too. His doctor kinds of brushes it off.

NCL says you can give cash tips to the staff if you like:
Yes, of course you can give extra. What I question is what happens if you give them cash INSTEAD of the Daily Service Fee.

True. It made me sad that we had to go through a metal detector to enter St. Peters.
Hotels within walking distance from NOLA port
in Gulf Coast Departures
Posted
Can't tell you about the oysters or the jazz, but yes, there are a number of hotels within walking distance. We use Harrah's but there are many others. Hopefully other posters can name them.
The port is reasonably close to the French Quarter. Walking distance if you aren't too elderly, LOL. That is one reason we like Harrah's. Close to both. Like halfway between them.
