Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I think the strategies shared by fellow cruisers actually prevent calorie counting and allows for a relaxed dining experience. That being said, the opportunity for cruisers to access nutrition information is an idea worthy of consideration.
  2. You are 100 percent correct. I guess I like to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, refined sugars in moderation, lean proteins of all types. Having successfully kept off 50 pounds for the past 25 years, I am chronically in maintenance mode. For some people this balance comes naturally, but I have to be mindful everyday. Simply put, I love to eat, and that has never changed. I just need to be prepared. Everyone’s suggestions are super helpful!
  3. So many great suggestions! Thank you. Since menus are fleetwide, can anyone recommend particularly delicious and healthy-ish entrees enjoyed in the MDR? For discerning fish eaters, how is the salmon?
  4. What are some of your favorite healthy meals on Celebrity ships? Particularly in the MDR and buffet? Seeking ideas for maximum enjoyment! I’m not looking to lose weight on the ship, I just want cruising to fit into my lifestyle. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
  5. My husband is a sports enthusiast. What games/matches/networks are generally shown in Europe at Craft Social? Are U.S. sports featured? How about baseball? Thanks for your help.
  6. For the past few weeks, there have been reports of Premium Package upgrade discounts on CC. My European cruise has failed to show any of them. I can only receive the standard $13.99 pre-cruise upgrade per day. I check both the app and I log in on my computer and get the same result. It seems some cruises - like mine- are excluded. Why would this be?
  7. We have been burned by FBC. Simply put, you do not have control over your ticket. It’s fine if everything goes well, but if it doesn’t, that’s when the nightmares begin. You think you are flying on the operating airline, but then you find out you are booked with the code share. Need information? Make a change? No one will talk to you because you do not control the ticket. FBC controls the ticket. And FBC is represented by a poorly trained customer service reps. Each time you call them you get a different response. It is no better with escalation. Now with no change fees with major decent operating airlines, the $200 pp cancellation fee per flight imposed by FBC after final payment is no longer a benefit. I don’t need their guarantee to get me to the ship because I fly in a few days earlier to enjoy the embarkation port. I don’t find FBC to have advantageous pricing. I’ll pay for my tickets further in advance to save myself aggravating headaches. It is, after all, supposed to be a vacation.
  8. I had done the shuttle excursion to Bruges on another cruise line. It was worth the added expense as public transportation was too lengthy. We too had an early ship departure we did not wish to risk missing. There were perhaps 5 shuttle busses and each group traveled into town together and returned back together. We were not able to hop on a different bus. They count the number of passengers and we had to wait a bit for late arriving passengers specific to our bus. The shuttles work less like a HOHO and more like a traditional excursion. Bruges is super easy to see on your own, should you wish to explore the shuttle option. The buses drop passengers off about a mile from city center but the walk is a joy. Any one who has mobility issues should reconsider. The streets are charming but cobble stoned and the bus parking, as I mentioned, is a distance from the major sights. Perhaps Celebrity may be different, but cruise companies subcontract with many of the same tour providers. A taxi from town to the ship is about €50.
  9. I would take the Princess transfer from London Victoria Coach again. It was very well arranged and efficient. I dropped my bags with the Princess rep and saw them again in my room. You are delivered right to the ship. Wait time between check in and getting on the bus was about an hour. Seating during this time was not universally available. I recommend snagging a seat and then have one of the members of your party check in. We did run into a problem at embarkation because Princess’ “systems were down,” but that had nothing to do with a busload of people arriving all at once.
  10. Meant upcharged not uncharged. (Spell check!)
  11. Especially after the CEO at the webinar stated that the uncharged items allowed guests to enjoy specialty dining options in the MDR. Are these items indeed comparable to quality offered in Fine Cut, Tuscan Grill?
  12. Has anyone ordered the $19 filet mignonette in the MDR? What are your thoughts on quality and approximate portion size? When my DH and I eat meat at home it is an occasional treat. I don’t consider flank steak or sirloin, especially on vacation, a treat. Thinking of bending the knee to the upcharge. Thanks in advance for your help.
  13. Of course all of this collective angst would be eliminated if Celebrity clearly and consistently communicated its procedures. I also foresee lines at guest services by visa holders who are charged $25+ each by Celebrity for visa processing on the ship.
  14. I simply took a photo of my passport page, and emailed it to myself using a photo size of less than the size required by the Egyptian authorities. When you send the email it will ask you what size do you want to send the photo. I then opened my email on my laptop computer and saved the photo onto my desktop. I then attached this photo to my application. Not fancy but it was accepted. Make sure the passport number and bottom code are clearly legible. Hope this helps!
  15. This is what I too am seeing in my app for my October Apex cruise. I’m not sure how much chicken, salmon, pasta, and strip/flank/sirloin steak I can eat over 10 days. Always available has turned into only available.
