Remember that some shipyards float out ships as soon as their hulls are finished. Others wait much further down the road. And others just float them after finishing them, or very closely before finishing. Mardi Gras seems to be made in Turku shipyard, which is different to Odyssey, yet same owner. But taking in to account the state of Odyssey before this virus thing started disrupting things all over the world, I would say we're either on time or very close to. Other ships/shipyards may be different, but this one seems to be fine.

We're booked for January and even with this analysis and progress we're still worried. We will probably only stop worrying after the ship gets is maiden voyage.

We're booked in January too... We are keeping our fingers crossed.

I booked a Star Class suite for 2022 for mine and my husband's birthdays and didn't tell him😬 But I am always in charge of vacation plans as my husband just likes to enjoy whatever I plan without having to be involved in it🙃

I usually do 90+% of the vacation planning and scheduling too. My wife will jump in around the time she starts deciding on clothes to take, so about 2 weeks before. 🙂 Other than that she pretty disconnected, 'til someone asked about our trip. I don't know how many times she's turned to me to ask, "so, what ship are we going on?" LOL

So disappointed but on the positive note we are all healthy

My husband was deployed on our 10yr anniversary and I planned this big trip for our 15th anniversary and now this you can bet I won't be planning anything for our 20yr anniversary lol....

Maybe they will give us the upgrade for our November cruise since we didn't get to use it for this cruise...

    That would be great!

Well the cruise wasn't a surprise but I booked an upgrade without telling DH.  It was from a Sky suite to a Royal Suite (on Celebrity).  My plan was to surprise him when we got to the room but it was foiled by a shore side concierge e-mail asking about preferences in the room, bar set up, mini fridge contents, etc.  With the cat out of the bag, so to speak I was initially bummed that my surprise was ruined.  He told me that he was glad he found out ahead of time because that made him even more excited for the cruise. That made me realize that the anticipation of the cruise was just as much fun for him as it is for me, so no more surprises...at least when it comes to cruising.

Nice! I have a feeling my wife will found out in a similar fashion. 🙂

I've done exactly the same thing. Booked last December the brand new Enchanted Princess for August 1st sailing out of Italy. Booked the flight to Rome too. Got a great deal with drinks, gratuities and Wifi included.

As much as I want this cruise to happen, realistically I now doubt it will. Full payment is due later this month so I will cancel then. I may not tell the wife I ever booked it.

Oh man! I hope it happens for you!

  7. Okay, so I booked a cruise for my wife and I without telling her. We do have one booked that we picked together before the 'surprise' booking. Trying to decided how to let the cat of of the bag. Anyone else been in this situation? How did you handle it? How did it end up? Looking forward to some stories here...! 🙂

We sailed on the Carnival Horizon and spent the day in Aruba December 19th getting into Port at 9 AM. We originally booked a day resort for me and my wife for $169 - I placed a $15 deposit. On arrival we needed to pay a taxi ride $24 each way to the Resort. We decided to just take the Bus to a beach instead based on another cruisers advice. Let me tell you - this was great. All the beaches in Aruba are Beautiful and Free for public use. So we asked around and were told the Marriott was a great spot.

Bus Pass - $5 per person for round trip transport. Bus Stop just across street from cruise port. Buses run every 20 minutes.

We boarded the bus and arrived at the Marriott in 20 minutes. There were 2 stops before this and other cruisers went to Eagle Beach.

We walked right through the lobby - onto a beautiful beach with Free Beach Chairs and Covered Umbrella type shelters all over.  We spent about 4 hours on this beautiful beach. There is a full service bar on site also with Happy Hour specials and some food items.

Total cost was $10 for 2 of us - plus my $15 deposit I cant get back.

I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a day at the beach in Aruba. It was inexpensive, easy transportation , and a beautiful beach.

Thanks for sharing this. We love getting off the ship and finding a great beach, and some local cuisine.

As water is heavy and you must carry this on not give to porters for checking, best to order the water in advance and have it delivered to cabin.  Also gives you more allowance for the soda, as you don't have to limit either to meet the 12 total containers.  ICE is available from the cabin steward on request.  They will replenish daily of as needed.

    Thank you!
