On the FB page for my April MSC Grand Voyage cruise, there is a copy of a letter MSC Cruises USA seems to have sent to travel agents.  They are offering changes or deferrals of Mediterranean cruises in March and April.  Might be worth having a conversation with your agent for an update on policy.  It isn't on the MSC Canada site, and I haven't heard back yet from my TA whether they have been informed of the same.  I know the info is 3rd hand, but it seems there is change afoot, so worth biding time before cancelling.

I saw what looks like the same note on a different group chat. The important parts are posted above. The rest is just marketing fluff saying here's some stuff for you to send clients, here's some deals we have, here's what happened to Mer, etc.

  2. Aside from the obvious risk of contracting the virus, the practical implications of missing ports and/or being quarantined either on the ship or somewhere along the way back to the US is enough to keep me from going on my Mar 4 Grandiosa sailing which starts in Palermo.

We're scheduled on the Grandiosa in late March and thinking about not traveling. We simply can't afford to be stuck on a quarantined ship for weeks...our son's in high school and we work. The risk of such a thing happening seems to be rising almost daily. Obviously, we're long past final payment...I think we're still eligible for a 25% refund for the cruise, we used points for the flights and final payment on most excursions is due within the next week. Just so much uncertainty right now. 😒

We are in a very similar situation, except our Grandiosa cruise starts March 9 from Palermo (same itinerary as yours - the ship does a circle and people board/disembark at each port). Aside from cruise, only cash loss is some museum/Eiffel Tower tickets in Paris and flights CDG-PMO, though if I wait the flights may be cancelled by Alitalia anyway. All other flights on miles.  Situation just seems too unstable at the moment.

  4. I am booked on the March 9 sailing from Palermo with stops in Valletta, Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, and Rome. The ship seems to be doing the same circuit throughout March.

I'm concerned about the recent Coronavirus outbreak in Italy and how that might affect the entire cruise, the itinerary, and/or my return to the US after visiting a country where Coronavirus has been present.

Any ideas on how proactive MSC may be on this and what their threshold for cancellation might be?  Would they let me cancel with no penalty given the situation, whether for full credit or an outright refund?

    Thanks!

  5. Have a MSC cruise booked for next month. Wondering if as the sail date approaches if MSC sends out discounts on drink packages, internet, shore excursions, etc.

Should I just book or wait for a discount?

Are any of them cheaper on board?

    First time on MSC.

Sailing from Palermo, Italy on Grandiosa if that matters.

    Thanks!

  6. We are planning a trip on Grandiosa in March, 2020. The ship sails in a circle and it appears you can book a start/end at any of the ports. We would like to start in Palermo but get off at Rome on the next to last day since we will be flying out of Rome and it’s easier than flying from Palermo to Rome. Would MSC permit this? Thanks!
