  1. Mum2 well not sure. Most likely we would rather than lose any money but we are doing this more to go with them. Not sure how we feel about cruising and would never go to Europe peak season with the crowds kids and heat but one of them is a teacher so summer it is. If they don't go it would all depend on a few things

  2. I did a hold on a cabin for a few days when we were considering this trip which would have been about 6000 and at one point in the reservation there was an option for refundable deposit for 900. Which would have increase the total by 900.

To me a deposit is what you first put down and not the full amount. This is why it's confusing..so if I added that 900 to get a refundable deposit, I guess what you are saying is that tbe cost if my trip would now be 6900 and if I cancelled before April when all is due, I woukd get that 900 back so no money out of pocket, but if I did go on the trip I would pay 900 more?

  3. Sorry I feel very dense .. the term :" refundable deposit" I think is what is throwing me.. if the depost amount is 900.. regardless of the amount that makes it refundable .. yes the fact its the same is confusing.. but what am I getting for this?  If as you say the cruise is 3000 and there is a 900 dollar refundable fee.. is it the whole trip that is refundable or the deposit that is refundable.. that is what is confusing me.   So if I book the trip today.. ok and pay 900 for the deposit then 900 to make "something" not sure what .. refundable and the payment is not due till April and I cancel in Feb.. do I get my 900 deposit back?  ok if so then I paid 900 to get 900 back.. I thought the final payment is due in April so if I paid nothing till then except the 900 deposit then I see no point to this extra 900  If it made the entire trip refundable till the the last minute ok then is like purchasing an insurance plan.

  4. You pay a higher deposit, but it is ALL refundable versus a lower deposit but you lose it if you cancel.

I was told the deposit was 900 dollars and its not refundable.    THen there is a "refundable deposit" that costs 900 dollars.. so it makes no sense.  If I book now and have to cancel even before the date of the first payment I lose 900 dollars... not sure what paying that 900 extra for a refundable deposit does for you.  Are you saying that if got that and had to cancel I would get the 900 deposit back along with the 900 I paid for the refundable deposit???  Its really confusing.. I do understand why they would do that but this far in advance I would not make that commitment.

As for what you said though... that means for the Princess cruise I am looking at that is mostly sold out except for a few not so great cabins, since its so far out and people tend to cancel  there is a good chance I would get a better room closer to the time.
We decided against Royal Carribean even if we could get our money back because it seems they nickle and dime you ... a similar cruise on princess is a much better deal. I am not caring so much but friends of ours who are cruisers compared the two.  I don't know if RC is a better experience overall but I have nothing to compare it to. I did not like that you cannot do your own laundry for a three week trip that will get expensive at 25 dollars a bag (not sure how big that bag is but I am sure not that big)

  5. Ok thanks that's helpful we will talk about this Sat and maybe call as a group.

I don't like the idea of Princess assigning a cabin as you have no idea where they will put you. It's between the devil you know and the one you don't lol

There is that one cabin in tbe back of the boat that might be ok. And we'll maybe elevators will be ok. If we have decent wifi I will take my echo dot with me and put on white noise so it might be fine. Ok thanks for all your input!!

  6. Thank you all. There are just a handful of rooms for all categories. We are fine with interior Cabins..don't care about a balcony or view but there are only 2 balcony left on the entire ship in not so great areas and  any interior Cabins are right by the elevators and again on a deck that has noise above or below. And there are only about 10 rooms total left on tbe ship.

It's the 20 day Grand European Explorer cruise Jul 10 island princess.

Only one room on a quiet deck and it's the last room back of the ship.I would take it but not sure my friends will be happy with what is left. So that's the issue.  I thought I would be better off booking directly as far as price and more control over my booking but maybe not?  I have frequent flyer miles so not concerned about airfare.

At this point just a decent room.

  7. Hi new to cruising so I have a few questions that might be obvious to others.  There is a cruise two other couples and my H and I are interested in however its just about fully booked up. There are a few rooms left but they are in bad locations like on a deck below lots of activity above or below like the pool and nightclub or the gym  or near the elevators (which may or may not be bad not sure I have been reading differing opinions). There is one obstructed view cabin way in the very back of deck 9 which is a quiet deck as only rooms above and below but its the only cabin left on that deck.  It is the very last cabin. I have no idea if this is good or bad.  I don't care about a balcony or a view as we don't plan to be in our room except to sleep. So if anyone has any thoughts on that .. that would be great.  That said, there are a few cabins in the bad locations we could book hoping other cabins open up before the trip as its so far in advance. So I am wondering how often that happens and it would have to happen for three of us so three rooms.  Also, the agent told me there is a long wait list for room changes so that might complicate things as well.. Trying to decide if we should just give up on this trip and find another. So trying to get some idea of the odds of getting better rooms.
We really started to look at this too late.

WE loved the itinerary and Royal Caribbean also has a similar itinerary but they are way more expensive for a balcony which one couple wants and they don't have do it yourself laundry and worst of all is 900 unrefundable deposit.  I am not finding any other cruise line with this varied itinerary.. It goes to Spain, Portugal, France and Morocco end of July and we need to stay with the summer as one person is a teacher.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    Thank you

Promotions like this have been in place since 2014, and while the “offer” language changes, the bottom line rarely does. However, prices tend to increase the closer you get to a sailing date, so booking early generally gives you a better price than booking closer in. If the price goes down before the final payment due date, you can call and get the reduced price.

Thank you for your response.  I was hoping someone would say what you just did as our group is not ready to commit and don't want to lose the deposit.  Also they say you can pay 900 to get a refundable deposit.. thats just crazy.. the deposit is 900 so why would I pay 900 more just to get my 900 back if I cancel???

  9. Hi looking at cruises for the first time.  I see a promotion for 30 percent off.. is this real or if I try to book a month from now will the price be similar or not so different as today?  I ask because friends have to wait to book for personal reasons and we would like to book when they do to be sure they are going but the price today is so good. I know there is no guarantee and that the prices do change but just in everyone's experience what are you aware of. Have you ever missed a promo only to find the same or similar price or even better price later on?

  10. I posted the other day that we received our 200 credit card refund but was waiting for the gift card support to issue me a new gift card. I have since found all my gift cards and all money has been refunded to them so I am whole.

Again we cancelled March 11 for june 27 cruise. It appears they are more going by when you cancelled than by sail date

    for the most part.

  11. HI All

I have been following this thread for some time now. I just received my 200 refund for my deposit which I paid for on credit. I have another 1300 on gift cards and waiting to hear back from gift card support as I need a new card for them to attach the fund to. I am still waiting to hear back from them.  I cancelled on March 10 and was scheduled to sail out of Vancouver to Alaska Jun 27.

    Thanks thats what I thought

  13. I too like everyone else here am waiting since second week in April when we cancelled our June 24th Alaska cruise which ultimately got cancelled anyway.  Princess was really not good about confirming things with me or providing me with notice that I cancelled and would be refunded.  I was told that on the phone and was in the time period to get back everything regardless of Corona.  I had to call them several times just to get an email stating the cruise was cancelle but it still did not indicate how much they owed me.

SO stil waiting like many of you but what really kills me is that one of the Princess Cruise vacation planners keeps emailing me and called me saying when I am ready she is there to help me plan another cruise.  It really irked me .. i have got gotten my money for the cancelled cruise but you want me to book another one!  Then she says she is there to help with whatever and with checking me refund status.. SO I  asked to look into that and then I got no response.

I have never taken a cruise before this was to be our first and I have always hesitated for a number of reasons but now I am not sure I ever want to go again.. if I ever get my money back I will be stuck with a 1300 gift card but we will have to suck it up and go or lose the money.. oh well lesson learned,

I have received refunds for everything except a $500 gift card and a $200 FCD that was back on my account and then expired.  I contacted giftcardsupport@princesscruises.com and they said I do have the gift card refund coming, but it will be sent on a new gift card (even though I do have the old card).  I contacted them a few weeks later and same message.  I contacted them earlier this week and no answer.

When I contacted Princess about the $200 FCD, the rep couldn't tell me anything, but said to call again in a few weeks. 🙂

Wow ok that is not hopeful for me at all. In any case I will be stuck with 1300 on a gift

Card as not sure I ever want to cruise now after all this

This is from the FAQ page on the Princess site.

If I have used my Princess Cruises Gift Card to pay for my cruise and opted for a refund, how can I receive it? (North American Guests Only)
If you have your original Princess Cruises Gift Card, a credit will be added back to that card, so always hold on to your gift cards even after you fully use them. If you do not have the original card, contact Princess Cruises Gift Card Customer Service at giftcardsupport@princesscruises.com or 1-855-426-0168, and a new Princess Cruises Gift Card will be sent to you.

Yes thanks I don't have the cards and called that number they said once the 200 cash payment for the deposit is made to my cc then I should call them back but I never got anything from princess saying what they owed me ect only that I cancelled (and I did this on the phone with a princess agent who said I would get all refunded) that was a month and a half ago... so was just wondering if anyone had gotten a refund on a gift card as most here were refunded either to their cc or FCC

  16. I had to bug Princess to get any email from them.  I cancelled my June 24 Alaska Cruise on April 10 by phone and recieved nothing stating I had cancelled or what was owed ( about 1500 I had already put down).  I called again and was told that an email had been sent but she would send another ..again no email.. checked spam etc.. So I finally reached out to my cruise planner from Princess by email and he called me and I again asked for some kind of documentation of cancellation and refund.  He sent me a letter and all it said was that it was cancelled and what the total cost of the trip was.. nothing about how much they owed me.. when questioned he said that was all he could send me.. two weeks later I got another email from someone else which basically said the same thing..  Like everyone else I am still waiting and will most likely have to wait another month.. I cancelled airline tickets, airbnbs, excursions etc and no one has given me such a hard time.
I am just posting this as I think they are not communicating well at all and I have no idea if I will get my money back at this point in time. If you did get a cancellation notice did it state how much was owed to you or how much you had already paid?

  17. Wow then I have a long way to go yet to getting mine... I cancelled April 10 for a June 24th trip. I guess it really will take at least 60 days.

And even though I still don't have my money for this trip I get an email from a "new cruise planner"  letting me know she is available when I want to schedule my next trip.

I would have felt better about that email if I had received my refund!
