  1. Dinner tonight was again lovely, This chef is hitting it out of the park with both menus and flavor. Do all the Holland America ships have such good cuisine? I’ll post photos tomorrow. I’m trying to upload my next video and it is so SLOW. I wanted to upload it the first two nights but could not due to NO internet, so I guess I’ll take slow. Tomorrow we go to Isla Magdalena to see the penguins! I’m VERY excited. It is extremely early; we meet our group at 7:15am (but, as mentioned above, I’m glad we are not the first group at 6:15 am!!)
  2. Ship wreck in the rain at 4:45ish Then Salsa class-excellent—in Rolling Stone Lounge. After that $5 aperitif Fashionista Martini for $5 for Happy Hour. At dinner! Had a reservation tonight-you need to do them at LEAST a day in advance unless you want to eat very late or stand in the line.
  3. Another great port talk, on Ushaia day after tomorrow. I’ve been in my cabin enjoying the scenery in the channel. Off to an MDR lunch shortly.
  4. Internet is much better this morning. We went up to Lido to Buffet for some more coffee and small bite. Packed. Went to MDR for same. Huge line. I ended up getting a quick bite from bread station (no line) and coffee and we are out in enclosed pool area—cooler than rest of ship, but fine with a thermal! Lovely views and got a nice photo of another ship going by. Windows are quite streaked and dirty, but given the weather in this part of the world, not a big deal. If I can position my iPhone sensor on the clean part of the window, a photo is still possible.
  5. WOW! Our first glacier was magnificent. Ed said that we’ll take 2,000 photos of this glacier then erase them all when we get to Antarctica 😂 Here are a few of my 2,000 shots (well, maybe 1,000 😂). The bow was 4 people deep so I gave up and went to the Promenade on 3 and then my cabin as the boat spun around. Glacier Alley will be on the Port side so I’ll be out on 3 for that in 2 days.
  6. So pretty! We are getting our morning announcement! 30 minutes from the glacier and bow is open.
  7. Here are somme photos of the fog…and there are little piece of ice in the water for the first time!
  8. Good morning! We woke up at 6am for the glacier. I’m not a morning person. The things I’ll do to see a glacier! Our 6:15 room service arrived very timely at 6:10. We purposely ordered ours at 6:15 since we figured everyone else would order theirs for 6:30 with a 7am glacier arrival. Russ got toast and juice; I tried the mango yogurt with granola. Very good! And hot coffee. 😀 I had to take my methotrexate for my RA last night and it make me extra groggy in the morning. Blech. It is very foggy out…hope we see the glacier! IMG_4589.mov
  9. Thank you for enjoying my photography and blog! Glacier tomorrow morning at 7am so I am off to bed!
  10. Thank you! I love to learn about flora and fauna along the way on a trip —this gives me a place to start! And thank you also for reading and watching! ! I am so lucky to travel as much as I do it’s a privilege to get to share it! 💕
  11. Seems wise. HAL also doesn’t have plastic water bottles on board. The water that they do hae is in very heavy glass bottles that are not conducive to bedside tables. Since I’ll knock over an open glass, I purchased the Oosterdam drink cup that I posted above… good top and straw too.
  12. My internet is back! it’s been very on and off tonight. I know @Btimmer has had some trouble with the internet on this cruise; mine was great to start and very spotty last 48 hours.
  13. 😂. re the chef! Lets just say we don’t get many fine crab cakes in East Tennessee. And thank you for the offer re getting a REAL crab cake in Baltimore!
  14. @FLCruiser97 The guys and gals behind the counter serve you, with a few exceptions like desserts (you open the cold case and take the desert plate yourself) and bread and sushi—basically, anything pre-plated you can get yourself. As for straws, I will try to find out for you! I am drinking from this mostly with water, lemonade, or ice tea, and it has its own silicone straw. No straw was given with my melon no-jito, the only drink I’ve purchased on board.
  15. Some people saw dolphins; I did not. Two birds today. Can anyone identify them? the bird with the white beak was very large:
  16. I settled on the crab cake, beet salad and prime rib, with the chocolate craquelin for desert. Russ had the beet salad and Barramundi All was extremely excellent! One of the best crab cakes I’ve had in awhile; nice tangy/spicy sauce and the cake itself had a crispy crust, not soggy. Prime rib with its horseradish mustard sauce—so good. We both enjoyed the beet salad. I only took a fork full of the desert to taste it as I have eaten way too much today. It was good but not my favorite this week. Then the setting sun and clouds at the mountain tops from our balcony, and a final waterfal. The channel is widening now and we will soon be back in the pacific ocean.
  17. Actually, I have had trouble with the Internet the last two nights late, when I like to upload videos and catch up on Cruise Critic, I lost my connection and couldn’t get it back for anything. Was OK again in the morning both times..if it happens again, I will also report it. and @Btimmer your flower photos are wonderful! 💕
  18. Afternoon tea, and for lunch we had the Asian station at the buffet. Crab fried rice, vegetables, chow mein and some sushi. Had it as soon as the buffet opened since we want to dine earlly tonight with the early glacier call. Afternoon Tea is held each sea day on level 3 of Dining Room.
  19. Some people saw dolphins on the bow before I got out there. I saw a couple of species of birds I am going to try to identify from my Nikon photos. Sun is starting to go away again (its 3:45 ish). Loud conversation going on in the balcony next door. I wonder if they would be surprised if I just joined in and answered a question or such 😂 Some views from my time on the bow:
