  1. Can anyone tell me the time that the Jewel of the Seas allows disembarking to begin once returning to Civitavecchia? My husband and I have an 11:45 flight out of FCO to Canada and we were just wondering how much time to allow ourselves and what time we should arrange the shuttle for.

    Thanks very much

We have a 10:30 flight out of FCO also so hoping it all works out. Booked a private transfer for 7am pick up,

  2. We would call your statement a "polite understatement." We have found Marco Polo airport to be among the worst in the Western world :(. But other then that its a nice place :).

    Hank

    I'm with Hank.

Love Venice !, but Marco Polo well thats pure unorganized chaos especially when leaving. Int'l flights to the US fair out better but intra Europe when airlines share counters is a mess. Gate check in only opens 2, 2 1/2 ours prior and then its a bit of a free for all as no one know what counter they will be using. Thousands of passengers standing around with very limited seating. Then of course you barely have sufficient time for security after check in. In the end of course still worth it all. :-)

  3. May I ask some supplementary questions? We're staying in a hotel near P.Roma so are planning to get the people mover. What happens when we get off it? How will we know where to go next? Presumably, I need to have stuck my luggage labels on at the hotel before I leave in the morning? Or will there be an opportunity to do that when I get to the terminal building? At what point will I need to be prepared with the generous tip for the porters I keep reading about on here?

Take a cab from P. Roma, its worth the few extra Euros and will drop you right at the ship. That what we did last year. Watching fellow travelers walk for 10-15 mins pulling luggage after getting off the people mover is not a great way to start a vacation. There were some elderly folks who seem to be having a rough time. My hubby has just had emergency surgery 2 week priors so we were opting for easier route. Sometimes being frugal does not always pay off unless you know your ship is docked close to PM.

Will be doing the same again in 2019.

  4. We are sailing on Celebrity Constellation out of Venice in June. Normally I'm lined up at the pier to be the first one on the ship, but as this is our first trip to Europe, I want to squeeze every minute I can out of my time in Venice. If my ship leaves at 4:30, my understanding is I need to be on board no later than 3:00. If that's the case, what time should I plan to leave our hotel (Hotel Arlecchino in Piazzala Roma) in order to make it to the terminal and on the ship by 3:00 without being a total stressful rush? Thanks!

Your could take a land based taxi from Piazza Roma and would be there in about 10 mins. Thats what we did last year. after spending 3 nights in the same location as you. Depending upon what berth your ship is docked is also a consideration. It can be a very, very, very long walk from the people mover. I would leave your Hotel no later than 2pm to be safe. Sometimes you have to wait for a Taxi.

Enjoy Venice its fabulous, we are going back next year 3 nights pre cruise.

  5. Hotel Papadopoli - Highly recommend, stayed there last May and will do so again in 2019. Pricey but in my opinion well worth it,

If you register with the the ACCOR Hotel group you get better rates.

    Close to all transportation

  6. All Royal Caribbean cruises sailing after December 2017 have the updated policy to the Deluex drinking package(booze package). That all members in a state room 21 years of age and up must purchase the Deluex package if any other member of the state room wants to purchase the package. Has anyone sailed with the new policy applied. Was it the case or did you find a way around this? I'll be sailing in April on Oasis with 3 other people who don't want the package. Majority wins. Any information or experience with this would be of much help and appreciated.

Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Forums mobile app

Recently on Allure and we purchased onboard to take advantage of our D+ 30% discount. Two of us in a cabin, we had the choice to purchase 1 or 2 packages. Surprised actually. In the end we opted to purchase 2. individual drink prices on Oasis class ships have increased significantly and in fact they differ in price in several bars, +/- $1- $2 range

Cannot guarantee it would be the same in April but might be worth waiting...

    Good luck.

  7. Trying to find information on the shuttle RCL arranges from the pier to town. This is an over night port. We are planning a tour leaving from downtown @ 8:00am. RCL wont' advise the start time for this shuttle or the drop off point just that it is a third party arrangement. The pier they are using is not one of the usual piers.

If anyone has been there on a RCL cruise is it easy to walk through the industrial port to seek local transportation.

The tram looks like it will work.

    Thanks for any input

    Dave

Depend upon where your port is, sometimes its Dun Laoghaire or sometimes its closer to the City.

If Dun Laoghaire then highly recommend the DART, which is a local Train system. Very regular efficient system and economical.

You can see Dun Laoghaire on the map which I believe is for port of call. Hopefully your tour is getting out of the city to explore the Irish countryside.

If you dock at Maritime House North Quay, take a taxi, would be 10-15 Euros but depends upon where your tour is living from.

Have fun in Dublin, its where I was born and live for many 20 + years.

PS: Love Brilliance and Radiance Class.

    Slainte !

  8. My wife and I recently ended a cruise in Venice, and wanted to stay over for some extra days. We booked the Hotel Papadopoli Venezia in the Santa Croce quarter, and we were stunned by just how wonderful the stay was.

This hotel is less than a two-minute stroll from Piazzale Roma, over a short arch bridge with ramps on one side for rolling suitcases, baby strollers or wheelchairs. But despite its proximity to Venice’s bustling transportation hub, the hotelseems to be in a serene world apart. It’s nestled in its own quiet, local-neighborhood world, tucked between a small park and two canals.Three excellent local restaurants are adjacent, and that’s not counting the world-class restaurant and bar inside the hotel.

The hotel staff at the front desk went far beyond the ordinary in their helpfulness with our transfers from the ship’s dock and later to the airport, and the concierge gave us ideas for our Venice visit that only a local could think of.(Example:Venice has masks for sale everywhere, but have you ever visited a studio where an artisan hand-crafts an amazing variety of masks right in front of you? If not, visit ‘Casanova’ on Calle del Cristo in the San Polo quarter!)

This is not a budget hotel, but we thought the price was well within a median range for Venice. But the value for our money was exceptional. HIGHLY recommended!

Agree wonderful hotel. Great location. Spent 3 nights pre cruise in May.

  9. Did similar cruise from Venice this past May.

Lots of Europeans and they do like to dress up but not so much formal (Tuxes, evening gowns) rather very elegant / smart casual / trendy.

Have a greta cruise and don't let what other folks are wearing put your off.

Be sure to visit chops. Rhapsody does it right, the way it use to be when Chops first opened. By far one of the better Chops experiences on RCCL. We went twice.

The crew on Rhapsody are excellent always happy, and they go out of their way to make you feel special. The benefit of a smaller ship...IMO

    Happy Cruising

  10. To my fellow cruisers

Just came across this post today. Had made our final payment last week for a JS on Allure in Dec and so called the C&A desk on the off chance they would honor.

They applied the free Gratutities. Wow indeed

Now to begin with we had got a great deal on a W Guarantee. JS or higher. Got assigned a JS which we were happy with but not the deck. So called Friday still quiet a few available and of course no problem to switch to Deck 8, our fav on this class of ship.

    Feeling the love !!!!

Thank you all and of course Cruise Critic.;p

  11. Been searching the RCI website for info on show and showtimes, so that know what dinner reservations to make, but website information in general very poor, does anyone know how to find the shows and showtimes. thanks

We just sailed on her in May out of Venice, fantastic trip. It is a smaller ship so the shows tend to follow the 2 traditional dining times before the 2nd seating or after or 1st seating.

The crew on this ship are outstanding, I cannot say enough good thing about them. Constantly in a happy mood and they do actually care (reminded me of cruising in the 90's and 2000's. The the food was nice surprise, it was very, very good in my opinion. I know this all subjective but it was nice to see RCCL does still have the ability to step it up at times. Lately on the larger ships I have felt its the one thing severely lacking on our cruises.

    Happy cruising and enjoy !
