mtnesterz, that was incredibly helpful. thank you.

we will have 6 ships in port in Juneau - yikes!

It's no wonder why they want to limit the number of ships.

No, it came about after a spring break cruise that I was on.  Many of the college students were sharing the package. They caught quite a few of them.

I'm sure this helped lead to the decision

Some of those college kids aren't she brightest, especially when drinking. 😄

Let’s also remember drink plans first came out on Princess they were unlimited alcoholic drinks this changed when people started sharing

That couldn't have anything to do with people drinking excessively, could it?

Some folks can easily reach the 15 drink limit without any problem and others might only have 4,5 or 6 drinks a day on their account. 😏

If you get caught sharing, the package is canceled and they retroactively charge you for each and every drink you have consumed. And yes, it does happen as we have seen it.

Yes, I imagine people can get caught sharing once in a great while but only if you're so brazen to do it openly in public view.

10 minutes later we dropped our luggage off with the porters and went towards the terminal. Here is when our first inconvenience happened....

As I mentioned in another thread, I chose not to get the medallions shipped to the house. y USPS has lately been aggravatingly slow (it took a package 4 weeks to get from CA to GA), so I didn't want to risk it.

We stood in a very long line to get through the x-ray scanners first. Not sure why. We are Platinum and supposedly have priority at embarkation. Other people were let in without standing in line. Then we got the port agent who was very slow at processing docs. She was perplexed by our "new" passports and kept repeating that they were new and that I used the old ones to check in. They are not new. Two are 10 months old and one is 6 months old, and we already sailed with all three of them prior to this Enchanted cruise. There is no way I used the old passports to check in because they expired last year, so I am not sure what her problem was.  We were hot and bothered after standing in a long line, and tired after a sleepless night, so I didn't have the patience for her.  Everything I think shows up on my face... After a while she was finally done, retook my mom's photo, and gave us our medallions.

People with medallions in hand just breezed in.

We did NOT have the same slow experience in Nov 2022. It took 1 minute to get our medallions at the port, but we didn't have any choice at that time. Due to some glitch nobody could choose shipping to home for that particular cruise.

Last cruise we got our medallions at the port & were unlucky enough to get a trainee (first day on the job) with us being her first customer.

What usually takes 5 or 6 minutes to check in turned out to be almost 15 minutes. 😒

I don't know how people can miss the corridor cameras. Look up. They are not hidden.

Must be people are looking at tacky door décor, or searching for plastic ducks.

    Yeah, I went there.

I honestly haven't noticed them before but I'll be more aware next cruise.

    Must have been those ducks.

If you request cold water wash and cool dry, do you actually get that, or is everything just washed hot/dried hot no matter what?

We swore off of their laundry for a number of years but they've improved considerably. We still write cold wash and cool dry on the ticket but I'm not sure if it helps or not.

We also sent in most items for "cleaning", not "laundry".

Thanks. My main concern is that they will shrink my jeans. That would be especially bad on a cruise😁

Use "cleaning". It's easier on most items and doesn't seem to shrink things.

Your assumption is incorrect. I like the Island.   I sailed on the Island twice before they added the new cabins and twice since. I will be on her in less than a month for 31 days and have no worries. Could something go wrong, of course!  But then that is true of all ships. If you cruise enough days I would suggest it is a very lucky sailer that does not have incidents.

You are a rare individual indeed. Most people aren't going to put up with those inconveniencies especially when there are newer ships available that don't have similar problems.

We did the Blue Line once and never again. The Blue Line was out the door. It took at least 45 minutes to get to the check-in. As we watched people who had their Medallions walk up, scan and board (no line at all).

Many will say, "just do the Blue Line, it doesn't take long"...unless you have bad luck and it DOES.

    Where did you leave from?

What time did you arrive at the terminal?

I’m sailing this Saturday and my medallions still aren’t here, they are showing they’ll arrive after I leave. I’m wishing I hadn’t ordered them now. I called Princess and they said they could issue new ones at the port, but I ordered accessories too. I guess I’ll see what happens.

It sounds like they should be giving you a refund of $10 if they don't arrive in time.

    Good luck with that.

36 Princess cruise and only one on the Island and will never go on her agian.

No IC, gymn inside deck 6,They ruined the ship when they added 131 cabins.

I really think the only people that like the ship are those that never sailed on it before they messed it up.

they are there. Almost every public portion of the ship, including  hallways, elevators, lounges, etc are covered by cameras

Elevator waiting area, lounges and public areas, yes but hallways I doubt it as there are just to many areas to cover.

With the medallion you just walk down the corridors till a door unlocks

Next time you're on a Princess ship go to one of the boards by the elevators & use your medallion to find where your cabin is located.

If someone were to try and use a found medallion pretty easy for security to find and catch them.

Not if they wrap it in a piece of aluminum foil.

  13. 13 minutes ago, Kay S said:

That's right.  The thief would have to know the cabin number.  The same problem would exist with the medallion.  If a thief knew your cabin number and you accidently dropped your medallion, well...

IF by chance you do lose your medallion, anyone that finds it before you report it lost has access to your cabin by simply going to any of the display boards located on every deck & scanning it in. It also gives directions directly to your door.

I'm not sure if that works with a card in a similar way as I've never requested one since the introduction of the medallions.

In looking at videos of the Sun Princess dining room(s), it looks like they have moved to mostly 2 and 4 person tables, perhaps some 6 tops.  Have they effectively done away with the larger tables?  Despite being a introvert I've historically enjoyed dining at the larger tables and talking with people I don't know.

If that is the case that will be a bit of a bummer on our upcoming 16 night TA.  Don't get me wrong, love my wife and the friends who are traveling with us, but I know their life story and experiences.  Let me learn about someone new!

    Robert

I think that this decision was made bases upon the overwhelming number of requests for private tables.
