  1. Thank you both. He'll be ok with a private one and it does sound like an amazing experience. On less stressful topics, you mentioned the go-karts weren't heavily used. Should I rush to make reservations as soon as we get on the ship for them? Same for the escape room and the darts area. Were the slides open on the cruise? Does that outdoor sports area require reservation? I saw there was a TopGolf simulator that made them very happy. My husband and I have never been on a cruise so I'm trying to figure out what I have to do in what order once we get on the ship. Most of the trip reports (which are AWESOME and so helpful) are from adults so hearing from someone with kids on this ship and itinerary feels like I hit the lottery for these random items.
  2. Thank you so much for writing about your cruise. We will be on the Southampton to Reykjavik in a few weeks with 5 boys 12-22 (so not all teens:)). Our Akureyri tour can make a stop at Forest Lagoon but do you recall if there were private shower stalls for showering before getting in the pool? My 12-year old will be deeply uncomfortable if the showers are communal (me too, but I'm an adult and will deal with it) and while it looks amazing, I'd rather skip it than cause him unnecessary stress.
  3. Thank you. We did the reservations yesterday - both cabins with 4 diners each and noticed that we were already too late for a few restaurants on sea days (about 83 days out). All of them are late meals so I thought we would go by the restaurants before the day and ask them if they could "join" our reservations so we can sit together or near each other. I feel so much better prepared for this trip because of these forums. Thanks to all for the generosity in sharing your knowledge and experience.
  4. thanks to all who are helping me understand this. I did book through a travel agent and its an 11 night cruise. This is the NCL amenity sheet for the Family Balcony (1 adult, one 19 year old) (Passengers 3 (age 16) and 4 (age 11) don't have any amenities). I'm listed on the Inside as the adult in the cabin (boys will be 21 (late add on), 20), and which is why there's only one alcohol package included in the Family balcony:
  5. Ok, no, I didn't read the amenity sheet like that. So if it lists "4 specialty meals" under both Passenger 1 and Passenger 2, that means, 2 restaurants? I was planning reservations thinking it was 4 meals (so 4 restaurants) each (8 entrees in total).
  6. Thank you! Now I can buy the appropriate amount of additional dining.
  7. First cruise ever. We have 2 rooms, 7 people. The first room is a Family Balcony, the other an Inside. I am trying to plan our specialty dining. With the Free at Sea, the balcony has 4 specialty meals for the first 2 people, the inside has 1 specialty meal for the first 2 people. Can those 4 specialty meals be shared or do they only belong to the person they are listed under? Can you use up multiple credits in one meal to cover the table? Trying to figure out how many extra meals to purchase. Thank you!
  8. I can't figure out how to edit my post but these are the T&C and you are correct. I'll consider it a lucky day if the amenities stick around for our cruise.
  9. You don't have to pay the full amount on your Amex Plat card. Our cruise deposit and a few partial payments were made with Amex but the balance was paid with another card and the Amex perks are shown on my NCL account. I am past the final payment date.
  10. First cruise so all new to me...currently have 3 of us booked in an inside cabin on the Prima in August. The upgrade offers are to a Club Balcony Suite (from $600pp), a Balcony Stateroom (from $300pp), or an Oceanview Stateroom (from $175pp). If I bid and win, I understand that the upgrade cost will only be charged for 2 people but it seems that the upgrades aren't necessarily for 3 people. As far as I can tell from the website a regular Club Balcony Suite is for 2 people as is the regular Oceanview and the regular Balcony (they don't say Family). Am I understanding this correctly and shouldn't risk bidding? Thanks!
  11. I live here. To fly in and go to the cruise terminal, you have no need to visit South Beach. I don't really visit South Beach during Spring Break and neither do my college aged kids. Any other time than Spring Break, South Beach is generally fine and wouldn't hesitate to visit. Do you have a hotel already?
  12. We are doing the NCL Prima from Southampton to Reykjavik with 5 boys 11-21 in August. We are all so excited for the ship (our first cruise!) so the 2 days at sea will be as much a part of the adventure as the ports of call. The itinerary seems to go to excellent ports with a variety of activities plus we are spending an additional 3 nights in Iceland at an Airbnb before heading home. At the Iceland ports, I've booked private excursions so that they can be tailored to our more active group as I don't want (and they don't want) to be on a bus tour every day. In Iceland, we plan to pack our 2.5 days including the snorkeling between tectonic plates. Can't wait!
  13. This sounds like a great tour for us - me, my husband and 5 boys ages 11-21. Were there opportunities to explore out of the vehicle or was it mostly on the bus? The tour description I'm looking at doesn't mention any baths experience...and there are a couple of us that would definitely be uncomfortable with the no bathing suits rule! Me, that would be me (and my 11 year old). I know its stupid, and I will never see these folks again but its a lifetime of insecurity to get over and I'd rather not have to stress about it on vacation.
  14. I've been checking prices on my 2023 cruise since I booked last year and the prices have almost doubled. In my optimistic heart, I keep checking. Am I understanding that if the price drops before final payment, I should be able to request a price adjustment? I'd rather not cancel and rebook.
