Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. They leave after 5 days total quarantine time - ship plus hotel. Really six days as first day is day zero. No testing as we will be positive for some time. Some seemed quite sick so hopefully they can return home. Not sure how it works for the Canadians and Brits returning home with their countries requirements for entry. The hotel was very nice, the food was good and it was ocean front with a big balcony so it wasn’t too bad!
  2. I just got off of an 18 day sailing from Papeete to Los Angeles. A number of passengers developed Covid during the cruise and were quarantined in their staterooms for up to 10 days. Additionally a number of crew were infected including the string quartet, performers and band members. On a previous cruise the cruise director had Covid. At the end of the cruise there were 50 cabins (most with 2 per cabin) with sick and Covid positive passengers. There were just under 500 passengers on the cruise. We were escorted off the ship by crew in hazmat suits and taken to a hotel where the manager confirmed that there were 50 rooms for passengers. The ship provided medical transport vans but we were told we could take a cab if we wanted. I commented that this would expose cab drivers to Covid and was told it was management’s decision. We were given a number to call at Oceania for questions and concerns. The message said that we had to email questions and concerns because the phones aren’t staffed. Oceania told us we’d be contacted daily by a medical team contracted by the ship. I called them on the second day of quarantine at the hotel and they had no report from Oceania on sick and infected passengers and couldn’t help us. We were also told by Oceania we’d be tested after five days of quarantine to know it was safe to leave. It appears as though no testing is planned or scheduled. No announcements were ever made about the outbreak and no additional measures were taken to slow the spread of Covid.
