  1. I’d definitely be tempted to take more wine on board and pay the corkage - we’re on Plus and I was happy to pay the $3 uplift (+18%) for Cloudy Bay, but a $7 uplift would stick in my throat.

I was tempted to upgrade to Premium but (a) there’s so much other stuff included that I wouldn’t be interested in (photos? No thanks) and (b) DH only drinks beer so wouldn’t get anywhere close to the extra cost.

Anyone willing to hazard a guess when the corkage fee will start going up….(again)?

  2. We're UK-based and were thinking about a Med cruise for next year out of Barcelona or Rome, but I think it will be another Southampton route for us now - at least that way I know we can drive there (and just allow plenty of time to allow for roadworks / gridlock!)

  3. Thank you so much for the information about your tour around Normandy - I was there in 2004 with my (ex-)partner. His grandfather was killed in Normanday after D-day and we were the first family members to visit his grave in Bayeaux in 60 years (neither his wife or 2 sons had been able to visit). You’re right that the sight of the rows and rows of perfectly tended graves are so moving and being there is an amazing experience.

That's fab, thanks amajaa. Will look into that option. When you say drop luggage, do you mean drive to the ship and drop it there? Also is it possible  to walk to the Mayflower and QE11 terminal from  the Parking4cruises car park and is it flat? I will have a pushchair and a toddler in tow!

    Thank you 🙂

Apologies to Amajaa for jumping in, but I’ve also been looking for information about P4C. From what I can see they meet you at the short stay car park and then they drive the car to their secure parking (I’ve seen a few posts that suggest approx 6 miles each-way) then you go back to their “meet & greet” area in short stay when you get back and they bring the car back there (please correct @amajaaif I’ve misunderstood). If you’re travelling with another adult I guess you could leave them at the terminal with child(ren) then it should be a 2min walk for you to go back to them. Personally my first thought with parking is how much hassle it will be when we get back… when we arrive at the terminal I’m too excited to be annoyed by too much hassle but after disembarkation it will really get me down!

    Is that correct?

When we tested at Southampton in March it was just a case of dropping the luggage off and then walking across the road to the test centre and joining the queue (we were lucky that when we arrived there wasn’t a queue and we walked straight in). Once tested we joined the (very long) queue to get into the terminal and we got the test results while we were waiting (approx 15 mins). But that was back in March, so anything could have changed since then!

So, is this test at the Mayflower quay the one Princess offers at embarkation?  What was the cost? TIA!

It is the one that Princess offers - we opted for that as we weren't 100% sure what the requirements would be for us to test at home and didn't want to arrive and be told that we didn't have the right documents!

Because DH tested positive we didn't board, which meant we didn't have a ship-board account for the cost to be added to so we didn't actually pay for it, but the cost they quoted on the website was $60 (£45). I've seen a couple of posters on other boards that have done the same test at the Quayside and were not charged for it once they boarded either, but whether that's across the board or they were just lucky I'm not sure.

  7. We did the test at the Mayflower quay at the end of March - there were approx 15 testing stations and we were the only people there! It was only about 10 days after Princess announced that they would accept proctored tests so I guess most people opted for that thinking that there would be long queues at the Southampton centre. We were still in the queue to get into the terminal building when the text with the results came through (approx 15 mins).

Unfortunately my husband tested positive (having been negative before we left home the day before) so if we’d done the proctored test at home we’d have been ok to board and probably ended up quarantined on the ship…

The fact that Tilbury is such a pain to get to from where we live (Slaithwaite, Yorkshire) is the reason we are looking to transfer our deposits to the new (to Ambassador) 'Ambition', which will have some sailings from Liverpool, a mere two hours away! I am hoping the name signifies that the ship will have ambitious itineraries, befitting an even smaller ship (48kGT vs. 70kGT of the Ambience). They should go on sale in "Q2".

We're nearly in your neck of the woods @Skipper Tim(Bingley, Yorkshire but I work in Hudds). We've booked Ambassador out of Tilbury for the German Xmas Markets but have booked the "Festive event" for the night before to take a bit of the pressure off the journey down (I can cope with being late for dinner but at least she'll still be quayside when we get there!) I'd be interested to know what you think of the sailings from Liverpool when they start as that would be a lot easier for us too.
