In the same boat here (no pun intended). As we have FCC $$$ due to expire this year associated with the cruise and plans already on the books for the rest of this summer and next we declined as well. Offered to take the offer for a full refund of this cruise and 100% FCC that w3 could apply for one of the other HAL cruise we have booked. They replied …. Sorry no deviations as it had to be for an exact replacement of the Alaska 18 night cruise tour this year or next and the 100% FCC. I also looked at the pricing for any of the 18 night replacement cruises and the cost on almost all of them was about 50% higher than the price we paid. While they would not confirm nor deny they also could not discuss the move out of the FCC we have on the current cruise due to expire by year end so obviously we declined.

    Thank you Expo67

    that made me feel better.

  2. Okay so I just got off the phone with HAL and it turns out that they would rebook me on another cruise at a later date at no charge and then also give me a FCC for the amount I paid for my booked cruise.  I would be out for the flights/hotel/car rental and the FCC would be good for one year.  So it’s actually a really good offer considering we paid almost 15k for the two of us to sail.  Which is why I don’t know if I’m going to regret not taking it but I need this time away and have decided to pass on the offer.  Thanks again for all the input and I hope I don’t regret the choice I made.  They did also say on the phone that not a lot of people have taken them up on this offer but they have had a lot of ppl calling for more info.  I just don’t have it in me to cancel this last minute after the time and energy I’ve put into making this trip happen.  I guess my mental health is worth more than $15,000.  🤷🏻‍♀️ 😂😢

Presuming a round trip cruise from Vancouver:

    • Primary reason: Canadian citizen etc. (presuming you qualify, otherwise Discretionary etc.)
    • Country of original departure: Canada
    • Port of entry: Vancouver
    • Date of arrival: date of cruise termination
    • Are you travelling on a cruise ship? Yes
    • Is the cruise terminating in Canada? Yes

It’s not round trip cruise per se because we do 7days out of Vancouver up to Alaska and then we get off and do a land tour through Alaska and Yukon.  Eventually flying back to Vancouver.  Would that information change anything?
    thanks for your response.

  4. I’ve just read through all 11 pages of this topic and I apologize if I missed the answer to this but here is my scenario…

I am Canadian flying from Ontario to British Columbia to embark on a cruise leaving Vancouver on sun June 5th.

could someone please confirm or correct the following answers to the arrivecan app for me ?

for the primary reason for entering Canada - would I choose : Canadian citizens and others with a right of entry ?

    how are you entering Canada?

    Would i choose marine ?

    country of original departure

this I think I know which would be canada

    date of embarkation?

    2022 06 05 ?

    time of embarkation?

we have a boarding time of 12:20pm so would 1:00pm be an appropriate time?

    port of entry?

    Vancouver cruise ship operations?

    date of arrival?

this I’m not sure what I should put in here.  Our embarkation date again?

    time of arrival?

again uncertain about this, maybe the time the ship gets into port?  7am ?

    Thanks so much 🙂

  5. Wow, so many lovely responses.  Thank you all for the great advice.  I will try the upsell department out of curiosity but I think this close out from the trip I have to go.  Unless they offer me something I can’t refuse.  But after a long shift on my feet I think there’s not much that could talk me out of some time away from work.

The info in this topic is very interesting so thanks again for the people who shared .  I’ll see what happens on tues when I call them and keep you all posted 🙂

Ok, makes sense. But not sure why anyone would take this offer then....

yes so it turns out that it would just be them moving my cruise to a future date.  And using the fcc to pay for that cruise.  Absolutely no incentive for me and the lady I spoke to on the phone laughed when I asked if it would be like getting two cruises.  Even putting this most recent phone call aside the customer service line at HAL really has some work to do since I last sailed with them.

we've paid full pop for this trip and already so many things have been reduced/altered/cancelled that I’m beginning to wonder if we are getting a subpar trip for what we paid.  Sorry to sound negative but it’s hard not to question it when almost every week I’m getting an email from them about something being changed or cancelled.  I cringe now every time I see an email from HAL in my inbox.  That being said I realize the industry is going thru the wringer but I had to vent.

    thanks again for everyone’s responses

They are offering to move you to a different date for this year, no additional money from you PLUS give you the same dolar amount you paid for a Future Cruise Credit. So by moving you get two cruises for what you have paid. If you plans are open this summer and you want to cruise some more it sounds like a great deal. If you plans for this date are pretty much set in stone and hard to change then choose to pass. You should at least call them to see what date they can move you to.

Okay I read it as they would give me a fcc for the amount I paid for this cruise..  I don’t see where it says an fcc and a refund for this trip.  But you’re right I should call them.

     Sorry for the confusion

  8. It was an email from HAL with an attachment regarding “important information about your trip”.  Seemed legit , as every other correspondence came thru the same way.  This is the txt copy and pasted …

    IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION

This offer is capacity controlled and will be honored on a first come, first served basis. Please call 1-888-628-8107 (North America) or 1-206-626-7381 (International) or email us at Ship_Inventory@hollandamerica.com to accept this offer.
Ships' Registry: The Netherlands Booking: (removed for privacy) Statement Date: May 27, 2022

it sounds like they would refund me what I paid for it but also that I’d probably have to fight them for the hotels/flights I didn’t book thru them.  Just doesn’t seem like much of an offer for me to do them a favour  🤷🏻‍♀️

anyway maybe I’m reading it wrong and someone could point that out to me.  I appreciate all the responses and I haven’t called HAL yet because I’ve been working all weekend and also have no intention of “volunteering “ to give up this bucket list trip I’ve booked for my husband and I.

There is an upgrade scheduled for tomorrow so you’ll want to wait until that’s completed to update your information.

Does this app not update automatically?  Or do we have to uninstall/reinstall and re put in all our info ?
I’ve read a few posts about new versions of it and was curious

  10. Ooo I hope we get to stay at the Captain Cook, it looks so cool from the google pics.  Thanks for the replies.  Turns out I can still only pick up a rental from the airport 🤷🏻‍♀️

cars are a hot commodity out there. Never thought I’d pay $500 CAD for a Nissan Rogue for 10 hrs 🤣

my husband asked if we got a super car for that price.  Boy will he be delighted hahah

  11. Taking the Y1 triple Denali + Yukon departing Vancouver on June 5th.
we will be in anchorage on June 13th and I’m trying to book a rental vehicle for that day.  Does anyone know what hotel we are likely to be staying in?  I’d like to be able to pick up and drop off the rental as close as reasonably possible to where we are staying.  TIA 🙂

  12. Was considering trying to rent a vehicle to take the drive from Anchorage up to Matanuska lake while we are there in June.  Is this a reasonable day trip to take or will it take too long to get there and back with traffic etc ?

also when I looked into rentals before I recall reading something about cars not doing well on unpaved roads and that you should splurge on a jeep / truck / other 4x4 if you’re going to be going anywhere off the main routes.  Would a trip up there take us off main roads?

tia for any helpful information or warnings

Thanks for the link, you would think HAL would send something like this to you when you book!

I actually do have a copy of this pdf but other than when meals and snacks were included I didn’t see any pricing or information about the meal plans.  I’m gonna give it a better read tomorrow but thank you dfilpus for posting that link 🙂

    Thanks for all the information!

Thank you for posting this question.  I was wondering the same thing.  Esp in regards to the meal plan.  I haven’t been able to find any information on the meal plans.  If anyone has any links to those that would be great 😊

  15. My husband and I are booked on an 18 day alaska / Yukon / triple Denali cruise on the nieuw amsterdam departing Vancouver on June 5 2022.

for anyone who has done this itinerary or something similar how did you pack?  I’m not so concerned about what to pack but just how was it dispersed into the different bags you’re supposed to bring?  I’m kind of confused about how many bags we should be bringing and what to pack in each bag for the land portion vs the sea portion.  Any advice would be gladly accepted ❤️

I have read the holland America pdf on alaska travel tips but I didn’t find it that helpful in breaking things down. Thanks for any suggestions!

  17. Thank you so much for the kind response 🙂

from what I’ve been able to find I don’t think visas are required but it helps set my mind at ease hearing from someone else who has done this trip.  It’s a huge splurge and total bucket list trip for my husband and I.  I’d be devastated if we were turned away because I was missing any documentation.

    I appreciate your response oaktreerb

    have a great day!

  18. My husband and I are booked on this cruise leaving June 5 2022 with holland America on the Nieuw Amsterdam .  We are both Canadian citizens and were wondering if anyone knows if we need any visas for travel on this trip.  Are there any other Canadian citizens that can confirm this?  I’ve called holland and have done a bit of research on my own but would like to hear from anyone else to alleviate my concerns.  Thanks for your time and responses.
