I'm not really sure you can compare a cruise in 2007 and 2014. I'll let you know when we get back from our cruise. Our last cruise was in 2009.
That said, HAL does have happy hour every day where drinks are at a steep discount. From what I remember, and from what I continue to read on these boards, the menu in the main dining room is a step up from what's available every other night.
I'm looking forward to dressing up with my family and having a good time no matter what HAL does :)

There's an announcement at the top of the page regarding this problem. I havent been able to access mine for a few days on my laptop.
I see it was posted on Aug. 11. I guess I was one of the first to notice the problems starting Aug. 4th (then I posted here on the 7th). I'm so glad to see they are working on the issue!

Thank you so much!

Thank you :)

Anyone from the 14 night itinerary have any of the daily programs? Or can you tell me the two dining times and what time the shows were? Club HAL is open until 10, correct? Then we pay a per hour fee for later than that?

If I recall correctly, you are using the Android flavor of Tapatalk. Go to your main settings menu. Then look for apps. Find the Tapatalk app on the installed apps list. Clear it's cache. That should work. If it does not, you can also clear the data in addition to the cache. HOWEVER, if you clear the data you'll have to login to Cruise Critic via Tapatalk again. Your subscription preferences should be saved even if you log out.
Why does this happen? Sometimes the cache gets some garbled data in it that prevents it from displaying correctly.
My app works. It's when I'm trying to click the link on a computer that doesn't work. I click "Quick Links" then I try to click "Subscriptions" and nothing happens. When I right click "Subscriptions" and then open a new tab or window it just opens the page I'm currently on. I've sent a ticket to CC about the issue, but it has not been fixed yet. They sent me a link to follow from email to get to my subscriptions (thus the long time it took me to respond to this thread). It's very frustrating.

Mary, Virgil has a huge collection of aloha shirts. He loves to wear his Reyne Spooner's on the ship. They are very, very nice aloha shirts and look great.
I know Keaka will look wonderful with his new buff self whatever he wears.
Thank you! Now I'm back to formal wear. The pants that match his suit no longer fit. I don't think I'll be able to find another pair of matching pants, so I'm scrambling! Wish me luck!

He has really nice Aloha Shirts, and he wants to wear them. Problem solved. :) Thanks, everyone!

John! Keaka did ask if he could just wear his Aloha Shirt! ROFL You don't think he'd stand out a bit in Alaska?
He'll he happy to hear polo shirts are okay.

It just occurred to me that Hawaii's "nice" is probably not as "nice" as the dress code for dinner on HAL. In Hawaii, church attire is mainly a polo shirt and khaki shorts. Men hardly ever wear dress shirts. I think my husband might own two of those.
We have our 4 formal nights covered (he'll wear a tux, because we hardly ever get the chance to dress up). But I'm wondering what I need to purchase and pack for my husband to wear the other 10 nights of our cruise. Will a polo and Khaki pants (not shorts) work? Or should we get him a few more dress shirts?
I've been so focused on myself and our three girls that my husband's clothing completely slipped my mind!

With three small kids, I am ALWAYS doing laundry. Seriously. My mother came to visit one year and she spent almost an entire day trying to get all of the laundry done (as a gift to me because I had just had a baby). By the end of the day, there was a new FULL LOAD ready to go. She looked at me and said, "If I were you, I think I'd shoot myself." ROFL She was soooooo tired of the laundry. The worst part? Folding itty bitty teeny tiny clothing. It's a pain in the you-know-what.
Can I just say, I am SO looking forward to sending out a load or two a day on our 14 day cruise in 2 weeks??

We are fine. We had an amazing thunder storm last night and the wind was out of this world. I thought we were going to lose our palm trees in our yard. But everything is fine. Some places lost power and a roof was blown off a house in Punchbowl. Our home is a newer build, so it has the hurricane straps. We weren't really worried about where we are. The rain from Julio might cause problems, though, because we are already completely saturated from the past 2 days of rain. Thanks for all your prayers!!

For the past few days I have been unable to access my subscribed threads on a computer on the CC Boards. I can access that area on Tapatalk. Am I alone in this issue?

Aww!! Thanks everyone! My parents flew in from Georgia to spend some time with us before we leave for our cruise. We were worried for a while their flight would be cancelled. We won't have any action for another 12 or so hours. The island of Hawaii (Big Island) is just starting to get some bad weather. Thanks for all your prayers! The double hurricane thing hasn't happened in my lifetime. It's been a very busy season.

Or as they told us in seminary: "There's no vacation from your vocation!!"
God Bless!!
Hello Father! I seriously LOVE this quote!!! Thank you for sharing it.

She's made an appearance there, Mary. I have her boardname, but not first names, on the list.
Oh! I guess I looked at an old list. I'm glad she's on the roll call :)

Been on 2 7-night Caribbean cruises. To me, they have just about nothing to do on sea days. Another couple agreed with me. Both sea days, they had one trivia and one arts and crafts. True they had cooking shows. I'm 70 and not into Bingo or casino. On trips to Alaska or Europe, I believe they have more to do. My daughter sent me daily sheets from Alaska and there was lots to do. BUT, in the Caribbean---nothing. Living in Florida and retired, I can see the ocean whenever. I have plenty of time to read also. Maybe the above posters were talking of more exciting itineraries they went on. Lovely "white gloved service", but not much else.
Both of our previous cruises were in the Caribbean and we found tons to do. I spent a decent amount of time in the hydrotherapy pool and thermal suite on those cruises. ;) DH and I do like a good workout, so the gym was used as well. There was always something to do, even if it wasn't scheduled. We were able to find great ways to spend our time. I have never done the crafts, cooking shows, bingo, or trivia.

I'm assuming if I purchase alcohol in ports to take home I won't be charged corkage for this?
Not if they hold it for you for delivery on the last night. :)

I'm with RMLincoln! I love sea days! I won't book a cruise without a fair number of Sea Days on the itinerary!

The HAL flourless cake is AMAZING. I just hope to get that every night. :D

Have you sailed on Holland with Kids before? How did you like it? Which line is your Fav when it comes to the kids club for younger children? I have 3 year old twins. Is this promotion still in effect?
We love Holland America's Club HAL. My girls love it, too. I have 6, 5, and 3 year old girls. Our oldest was 15 months old when she took her first cruise on Holland America and the crew just LOVED doting on her.
Explore 4 is still in effect until the end of October, I believe.
