  1. Has anyone had success returning the rental the first day, and getting a new rental the next day? Is this even practical?
  2. I appreciate this, actually. I would rather get the short to the point information, and let me decide if I want further explanation. Sometimes these customer service reps go on so much that I am tempted to cut them off. I am also the type of person that likes to do my own research, and not rely on what the service agent says, since they have been known to be wrong or unhelpful at times.
  3. I agree with this! Signage seemed to be a general issue overall for us but not having a one at all for guest services is very odd. The first time we went there I'm like, cruise next, shore excursions, restaurant reservations, hmmm. I stood in the right line solely by process of elimination.
  4. If you read the beverage package description, you'll notice in Hawaii you will have specialty coffee included in the dining rooms and bottled water. This is not included in the UBP. VAT seems to be a Hawaii thing that to me is like a sales tax but I haven't quite figured it out yet. I expect it's the same on the islands.
  5. I was able to text other Android users while on the Jewyl but not iPhone users, without connecting to WiFi. I only noticed this after purchasing the chat feature on the app so that may have been a factor. I hear whatsap is another option, but I don't have experience with that app.
  6. It's not nickel and diming, but rather a different price structure. NCL breaks out your fare into multiple components, and you have the option to opt out of SDP, FAS, or whatever you don't feel you need. At the end of the day, a cruiser should decide if they got the value out of it by comparing the all-in costs to cruise on NCL vs any other line. The value of things like food, drinks, and entertainment are of course subjective. Decide to cruise or not cruise on NCL but complaining about the price structure of the company seems rather pointless.
  7. You're arrival, overnight, and departure times for being at sea are especially telling. NCLs website is crazy.
  8. Following! We were supposed to be on the Magic in 2020 (our first ever cruise anywhere) but we all know what happened. We keep talking about re-scheduling but the stars haven't lined up yet.
  9. Since you've already decided to get the upgraded drink package, have you considered FAS+? This also includes unlimited WiFi, shore excursion credit, and I believe extra specialty dining.
  10. Good Morning! Already off to a great start; can't wait to read about your adventures on the Jewel!
  11. If you have a sports top water bottle and squish water out on the balcony while the ship is moving, you can see the water separate into droplets it's kinda fun.
  12. I hope so too. Monday was kinda a drag for sure. I looked and NCL doesn't have any San Diego departures in 2024 boo. We'll see what the future brings, we could decide to make the drive to LA. We're doing POA this October but I'm not 100% convinced that I can lump that with cruising and not merely floating accomodations.
  13. This ended up being almost a live after all. Was it close enough to get a cc badge?
  14. Overall, it was very nice. I couldn't tell that it was an older ship. The layout made a lot of sense, I just wish that the casino and the martini bar hadn't been so close. Staff was all very friendly even the limited interaction I had with our Steward. He was obviously busy cleaning, so we seldom passed him or had a chance to even say hello. I loved that there were two options for dance floors and that also Drake for something more low key. Coupled with the drink package, this made for great night entertainment. Entertainment was superb. We loved New Sensations and D'Revelations. The comedian was top notch and we appreciated that they included a PG version. The Cirque Bijou was exceptional too. Rock You Tonight was well done but compared to the other two, not the best performance of the cruise. The smoke smell bothered me when getting a martini and the lower section of Stardust. I also noticed a smoking smell on the promenade outside on seven. However I knew we wouldn't be able to avoid it altogether and we were able to minimize it. Compared to CCL where the heaviest scent was near the pool area, it was a marked improvement. Although the room was smaller, the bedside lamps with USB ports were very convenient. I also liked that the mirror had a dimmer and the bathroom had a nightlight.
  15. Aw man so ocean views aren't any bigger. I know I've seen pics with double pull down bunks so this is something I will for sure research if we book NCL again. We had the water code on our booking so I knew we would get those. It was well after dinner but eventually all the deliveries we expected were received. How did you sister enjoy the cruise? Did she find the were sufficient activities outside of club? I know if we wanted to get in we were in line 30 minutes before it opened. A couple times we missed it due to prioritizing meals or other activities. But I will also rethink booking during spring break.
  16. The Wonder is also docked today but when we looked for her at 9 she hadn't been there. My aunt says she watched the ship pull in 10ish. I hope no one had any early flights. I wonder why she pulled in so late, though. Last time we sailed Wonder we were boarding by 11 am but that won't be feasible for today's passengers.
  17. We found the cardroom fairly empty but by the time we pulled out a game they called the next number. We remembered at the last second we forgot to empty the mini fridge which still had all our Puerto Vallarta chocolates and I made a mad dash to the stateroom. Steward had made up our room but not checked the fridge. Phew got our boxes 🍫 and fought the crowds to debark. We were off the ship by 10:15.
  18. Now 10 to 10 and they've kicked us out of the Cafe. They are fogging the area they said.
  19. Thanks to those who followed along and joined us on our adventure on the Jewel. We walked 91,123 steps this week according to my Fitbit.
  20. We quit after three drinks last night since I was yawning and we knew today would be an early morning. It's now 9am and only self disembark has been called. There were a lot of people using this option and the elevators have been packed with people with large suitcases. Other than making sure to get to the Cafe before they started putting the coffee away we are in no such hurry this morning.
  21. As expected we didn't get the Splash call til after 10. DS doesn't want to go anymore and DD wants to join us for dancing with New Sensations
