  1. I am so excited!  Sailing on the Breeze on Saturday 2/9.  It will be my 50th cruise overall, and my 30th with Carnival.

I think back to my first cruise on NCL Norway.  It was 1991 and we had no idea what to do, where to go, nothing!  I also remember we way overpacked.  I remember that our room was set up with twin beds, and we did not know we could have them pushed together LOL.  Fast forward to 2019 and here I am, ready to sail for the 50th time.  Unbelievable!

The best part is while my packing has become much more streamlined, and while we are more familiar with the islands, with ship protocols, with many crew members...I still get excited to cruise.  I am happy to say that it hasn't become boring (oh that island again), hasn't become routine (another show? yawn), and hasn't become anything other than what it is.  A cruise!  A time to relax, to breath in that salt air.  To see a show or two, and be waited on in the restaurant.  To have someone make my bed, and say good morning as I start my day.  A chance to see incredible sunsets, and a chance to experience places I never would have ever gone to.

I have snorkeled with turtles, touched a sting ray in the ocean, soaked in a volcanic hot tub, and tasted some exotic foods. So so much more, and so much more to come.  I am so excited!

  2. Usually it depends on how long our cruise is, but the hubs and I generally dress up for Elegant night.  Not for my dinner mates.  Not for the cruise line.  But for each other and to take advantage of the opportunity to do so.  Plus, I was also raised to dress appropriately when the occasion calls for it.  Just like going to Mass.  I like to look nice, not to impress anyone - but because I was taught to do so.  Guess I am old fashioned in that sense.

So much of today is casual and fast.  Heck we cannot even type or talk without acronyms much of the time!  But I like to look good for him, and vice versa.

I don't agree with shorts in the MDR on Elegant nights, but I am not going to fuss about it.  If for some reason the two of us don't feel like dressing up we go to the Lido restaurant, have pizza, try the sushi place or just order in.

  3. Personally I do not like it when the ships are in port late at night because there are too many ship venues that are either limited or shut down.  Casinos.  Shows.  Shops.

I cruise not only to go from one place to another but because I love to CRUISE.  Not go somewhere and spend the night at port.  Even when the ships are in port late I do not go into town at night or even walk around the port area.  No thank you!

I suppose I could take a ship sponsored excursion, but that is the only way I'd leave a ship in a foreign port at night.  JMHO

  4. My BFF and I are staying in a Cloud 9 Spa Balcony cabin on the Breeze in a couple of months.  We have stayed in a spa cabin on the Sunshine, and loved the amenities.  I understand that the spa on the Breeze is larger and has a special pool.  Anything we should know about?  Any tips?

We plan on several massages through the week.  Yeah, I know that massages on a ship are a bit pricey, but we save all year for this time together.  Our husbands enjoy the Daytona races...we go on a cruise.  I think I know who gets the better deal here  :classic_rolleyes:

My questions is for those who have sailed on the Breeze and enjoyed the spa services.  What did you like?  What didn't you like?  What is the best part of a spa cabin?

    thanks - and Happy Cruising!

I have seen the Seafood Shack on other ships.  I always tell myself that I am going to try it one day, but then never do!  Maybe this cruise I will.  The Carnival site still lists that they have it on Glory.  I think it is just part of the buffet.  If it is same as Liberty, and if I am remembering it correctly, it was kind of behind the Blueguana and had very limited hours.  I guess I will see in 17 days!

The Seafood Shack is across from where the pizza is by the Adult pool all the way in the back.  Fresh made and always delicious

I have yet to sail on a ship where the room was cool enough including Alaska (where we slept with the balcony door propped open). Can't bring a fan, though. Too heavy.  Maybe a really small one?

I always pack a fan.  Even if the room is cool enough, it gets stuffy at times.  A small fan will at least keep the air moving.

  7. We recently took our family on the Glory in June of this year.  My husband and I do this every three years, starting on the Glory back in 2005.  We are now up to 15 in our family so not a small group.  We selected Early dining as I thought it would be easier with a group of this many.  We were supposed to do this last year but had to postpone until this year when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017.  I emailed the Maitre'D to request that we be seated as close together as possible and not too spread out.  Well, we were given the very large round table that is right near the hostess area near the from door.  Primo location!  My kids and grandkids were awestruck at how close we were to the nightly action.  Of course, I expressed my thanks and appreciation!

The ship is in great shape and all of our rooms were awesome.  The kids area was well staffed, and when they weren't in Camp Carnival they were going down the water slides over and over...and over again.  At night we would go to the Piano Bar and have a great time signing all of the songs.  The casino was fun, and we even came back with some cash.  We went to several shows and thoroughly enjoyed them.  Now not everyone did everything together, and that is what is so great about a family vacation on a ship.  Plenty of things for each person to choose from, but most of the time we would run into each other and just be together.

At the ports, we had various excursions and activities planned - some together and some not.  We always say that this is their vacation too, and my only rule for us paying for everything is that I want to all be at dinner together.

We had a most memorable time on the Glory - and I bet your family will too!

  8. We do this quite often.  We can get into our room early thanks to our status, so we do not have to tote our stuff around until the rooms are open.  We drive to the port and just get on the ship and straight to our room!  We wear day tops more than once and the same with shorts.  I don't usually wear dresses to dinner, usually capris or long pants - and always black ones.  Then I can change up my tops and I am good to go.  Many times my outfit getting on the ship is the same as what I wear to go home.

    It is definitely doable!

  9. Next month I will be going on my 49th overall cruise.  I am blessed enough to live in a state with 5 cruise ports, so it is a little easier for me to cruise so much.

49 cruises got me to thinking about all of the cruises I have taken, and the places I have been.  Of how cruising has changed since my first cruise on the SS Norway in 1991.

I tried to find just one overall memory from my cruises, but it is kind of hard to do.  I have met some wonderful people through cruising, and through Cruise Critic.  I have seen my children and my grandchildren fall in love with cruising.  I have cruised with a large group, with just my family, and with just my Bud.  I participated in a flash dance to fulfill a very dear friend's wish who had cancer.  I snorkeled with turtles, and sat in a lava mud bath.  So many more and other things that I would not have experienced if I wasn't cruising.

But if I had to pick a favorite memory that stands out, it would be the cruise where my middle son proposed to his girlfriend.  Carnival helped make it a special and memorable experience, and it was something I felt privileged to be a part of.

What about you?  Do you have a stand-out memory of a cruise?  A special sunset, a special show, a special excursion.  We all have reasons to cruise -so what is yours?

  10. Carnival Cruise Line:The line has stopped placing plastic straws in glasses when drinks are ordered.

"We will no longer automatically serve any soda or cocktail (except frozen) with a plastic straw," Carnival's brand ambassador John Heald said on hisFacebook pagein April. "They will be provided by request. If you want one, please ask. Please support our efforts to limit the amount of plastic that can be found in the seas today

My questions is this: Does Carnival, or any other cruise line, throw garbage of any kind in the seas? How do the straws end up there if the cruise lines are not throwing them overboard?

I can bring my own straw, and usually bring either a Yeti cup or a Tervis tumbler, so I have my own straw. But I am really curious with this statement.

  11. It's one part of the island, they will be reopening again soon. You will still be able to visit unless you were going VERY soon.

Wellll….I am sailing on Sunday 9/2, and yes - we have reservations at LFK. My group is debating on if we should still go or just lose out on the 20pp deposit we all paid. Our email to LFK said they will be open for business, just limiting how many people will be allowed in, so unless there is an existing reservation you can't just go.

We will probably make our decision next week when we get closer to port. I hate to spend money for a place that doesn't have the amenities I reserved. I feel bad for what happened, and I know tourist support is what will help get them back on their feet - but still not sure if we will go or not.

  12. My final negative is the lack of space in the Atrium for shows. There aren't even close to enough chairs and it caused a bit of a commotion at times. There was a couple one night saving five open seats during one of the popular shows and they had two confrontations that I saw. Then there was the issue of people forced to stand, thus upsetting the guests sitting behind them at the bar. I just think this leads to some sticky situations and wish it could be remedied.

We noticed that same situation when we sailed on the Getaway in April. I wonder why they don't use the Theater where the shows are for the more popular game shows and such

  13. Thanks for the review! My DH and I are sailing in November for a quickie birthday cruise. I love living in Florida and being able to drive to a port and then be on a ship for 3 or 4 days.

I am still working, but retirement is just around the corner. While I love the longer cruises, I also love just unplugging for the weekend and sitting out on the deck breathing in that salty air and watching the sun set. Ahhh...best way to relax ever!

Some folks tell me that these cruises are too short as they are over before they begin. With 47 cruises completed, I take these weekenders just for the R&R and stay on the ship the entire time. Living in Florida with 5 cruise ports does have its perks!

  14. Don't let folks discourage you, cruising with toddlers is a great vacation.

I agree on bringing toddlers. As long as you are prepared for it and understand the differences between cruising with a toddler or young kids and traveling as just adults, you will have a great time.

The first time we brought our grandkids they were 20 months and 10 months. We had a blast, the pictures were beautiful, and the memories made by the family precious. My Grands are now 11, 10, and 5. They consider themselves seasoned cruisers having been on several cruises now! LOL

So even though you pay the same rate as an adult (and I fully understand why), go ahead and cruise with your kids. You will love every minute of it.

  15. Absolutely wonderful review! Easy to read and I love how you broke it up each day. Your pictures are great too. I know how much work these reviews are, so thanks for taking the time and the effort.

We sailed on the Getaway in April and had a Mini-Suite on Deck 8. One of the best cabins to be in and great location too.

We are sailing on this ship again on September 2 (next weekend! woohoo!) and your review just amped up my excitement level. I am so ready to experience all that this ship has to offer once again!
