Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. so not a drone from land then! Could have been someone on the ship I guess, but I don't fancy my chances of landing an expensive drone on a small bit of deck out at sea on a ship that's moving at around 18kts.
  2. Were you near land? Wondering if it was someone flying off the side of the ship - I'm fairly certain they are prohibited. Some people do wild things with drones near cruise ships. Not sure what the law is elsewhere, but I've seen loads of videos on YouTube of people with drones near cruise ships that would be very much against the law here in the UK. When we were leaving Miami on Icon last month there were 5 engine powered paragliders getting very close to the ship. The captain was not happy, a fair few blasts of the ships horn were heard.
  3. Facebook groups is where the action is at these days. I joined a few ahead of our cruise last month. There continues to be hundreds of posts about the ship, the hype is very much there, just perhaps moved to where normal people and not cruise addicts hang out! She’s a fantastic ship. We loved our week onboard. Best cruise we’ve ever done and already pricing up another trip on her, maybe not next year, but 2026!
  4. Titan of the Seas is one of the trademarks Royal has registered. However, agreed, it’s a bit too close to another ships name and you’d think they’d want to avoid that 😅
  5. That said, Oasis is now streaming away and Odyssey is still there. Did they definitely offload the patient to Oasis?
  6. presumably, Oasis has a bit more time to spare. Get the passenger off the Odyssey, onto Oasis, then Oasis can hang around to get the passenger to shore successfully and Odyssey can be on her way... again...!
  7. I've done a bit more reading into how the watch calculates your breathing and it's all done through the accelerometers in your watch, which are very sensitive. Apple apply some algorithms to this data to filter out background movement and predictions based on historical data. My guess is that the slight movement of the ship, which the accelerometers would easily pick up, mixed in with Apple's algorithms is causing a strange quirk in the data it's reporting. I don't believe that everyone is suddenly so chilled on a cruise that they start breathing once every ten seconds!
  8. Does your watch get notifications even if you are away from your phone? Like if you left your phone at home and went for a walk, would it continue to ping? If so it has it's own esim with a data package and yeah, you might be in for a bill (all be it the amount of data the watch is using is quite low as it's mostly notifications!). But if the watch only gets its data via the phone, you'll be fine.
  9. I am not sure how it monitors it exactly, I have an Apple Watch but never wear it! Would the motion of the ship / the constant engine hum somehow be affecting the readings?
  10. I saw an article today talking about the number of LNG shipments that leave Baltimore. Where does Royal’s LNG ships (which I think is just Icon right now) top up their fuel tanks? In Miami or Caribbean? And where does this fuel come from?
  11. Has anyone experienced a foul smell onboard Icon of the Seas? I've read a few reports on Facebook saying it's bad in the elevator areas and on deck, in the adult area at the back of the ship in particular. Posters on FB saying it is a sewage smell. Quite a few comments say it's the type of fuel being burned, and if that is true, it seems unlikely there's an easy fix to the problem. Trying to determine if it's a genuine issue or just a couple of people with sensitive noses, you know what Facebook is like! I have a day bed booked next month - at $300, it sounds like if it's a common problem then I might want to rethink that.
  12. I suspect that’s likely to be right. 250k is quite a round figure 248.663k is quite specific. it’s likely that when planning these things they give a bit of a vague likely figure and as specs change that figure will also change. it’s only once in operation they’ll know the exact tonnage. I think that still makes her the biggest. Wonder is 236k GT.
  13. While it doesn’t sound a big deal, it might be worth making a big deal out of it to see if Royal Caribbean will give you any sort of discount. Even a little off is better than nothing, right?
  14. For those onboard. Hows crowding issues? Is it feeling ok? On the webcam yesterday the deck didn't look as crammed as I thought it might! but if she’s only at 80%, how do you think it would feel with 20% more passengers? I’ll be on at Easter when I expect it to be crammed to the max with kids - including my own!
  15. If you go into the Royal app you can select the cruise date, change it to yesterday and you can see the schedule for each day.
