  1. I had waited to post a response to your question to see if someone with experience regarding being right below the Pool Deck on Muse would comment. Since no one has I will report that once we were in a Silver Suite adjacent to the Owner's Suite and below the Pool Deck on Silver Shadow and there was indeed much noise from above: scraping chairs and rolling carts especially.

Perhaps this is not the case on the newer Muse.

  2. Silver Spirit would be my choice after Muse. Obviously, this is quite subjective but we cruised on Spirit a few years ago and liked her very much. And I am assuming from what I have read about the upcoming re-fit/stretching that the Spirit will be very much like the Muse after that work is completed.

  3. For what it's worth my thoughts on dining on board Silver Muse. We have now dined twice in Atlantide, Hot Rocks, and La Terrazza, and once each in Indochine and La Dame. Not terribly interested in Silver Note or Kaiseki so won't be trying those.

Acknowledging that taste in food is extremely personal, I offer these thoughts with the caveat that it is just an opinion; perhaps helpful and perhaps not.

La Terrazza and Hot Rocks are much as on the other ships. The menus are expanded, but the food quality is every bit as good. Enjoyed them both very much. We have cancelled an upcoming Hot Rocks reservation and switched to La Terrazza, but only because of the heat here in the Mediterranean.

Indochine is an interesting place, a different cuisine that we enjoyed. It will not be for everyone, but we are going back this evening. Some of the dishes are spicy but the wait staff can help you navigate to the right level of spice for your taste. And the room is lovely. I would encourage folks to give it a try.

La Dame is very formal (not just in dress, which will be changing, but in style of service) and not different at all from Le Champagne on The Spirit. A special experience for one evening but, for us, not more.

In fact, the very best meals we have had were in Atlantide. It is a lovely room with excellent service. And the menu is quite extensive. You will certainly find a choice that you would enjoy.

The interactive TV shows restaurant availability each day along with the extension to call to make a reservation. . So, as of now (just after noon) there is availability this evening in La Terrazza, Kaiseki, Atlantide, Hot Rocks and Spaccanapoli. Indochine, Silver Note, and La Dame are booked for tonight. Perhaps tonight's availability is influenced by our stay here in Dubrovnik until 11 PM. Some folks may eat ashore. But I have noticed on other evenings that there is generally availability somewhere, and not just outside.

Finally, as has always been my experience on Silversea the staff is special. They make for a delightful cruise.

  4. I have not seen any computer stations or printers. And I have explored enough to say that there are none. That is something that is quite different from other Silversea ships I have sailed on.

The free wi-fi is spotty. You get disconnected rather often and have to sign back in. The speed is pretty slow, but adequate for email and that sort of thing. I tried streaming some music but that was a frustrating failure.

  5. Haven't notice the mirror problem. We have only gone to Arts Cafe for a light lunch one afternoon. At that time there was no cigar smoke from next door. I do imagine it could be an issue in the evening when the smokers congregate. There are very few spots on board for folks to smoke so the smoking spot must get very busy at times.

  6. Yes, Fox News is one of the channels. Also available are BBC News, CNBC, ESPN, MSNBC, Sky News and Sky Sports.

We had no trouble with the food in Indochine being too spicy. The waitress pointed out the hotter dishes (only a couple) and guided us well towards those we would enjoy. We will be going there one more time, so we did enjoy it enough to go back.

  7. We are now on the fourth day of our twelve day cruise so I thought I would give a brief update.

First, the condition of this brand new ship is, as would be expected, excellent. There are a few true improvements over other Silversea ships I have been on: the thermostats are normal digital types. Much easier to use and understand than the colder/warmer type. And more consistent in controlling the temperature. The walk in showers are larger. The TV's are brand new hd type. Picture is pretty darn good; although the wi-fi related TV content is slow and sometimes erratic. I do not particularly care to watch TV on a cruise so this no issue for me.

The ship is full: 587 passengers and 407 crew, so nearly 1000 on board and yet is does not seem crowded--except perhaps around the pool on these hot days in the Mediterranean. There are several large family groups and quite a number of children. But the size of the ship and the variety of outdoor and indoor spaces seem to minimize any disruption this might otherwise cause.

I know there is much concern about the dining and dress code issues--both of which will be resolved in the coming months. But, on this cruise everyone is behaving: dressed appropriately for where they want to eat. And it is my understanding that none of the dining venues, except La Dame and Hot Rocks, has been completely full. A few folks who did not use MySilevrsea have been disappointed in not being able to get a reservation at La Dame. Perhaps they will still have a chance.

So far we have eaten at Hot Rocks, La Terrazza, and Indochine for dinner and The Grill, Spaccanapoli and La Terrazza for lunch. Hot Rocks and it's daytime incarnation, The Grill, are like these venues on the other ships, except the menus have been expanded. This is also true for dinner in La Terrazza where, thankfully, the Duck Ragout Pappardelle remains a constant on the menu.

More later, for now I give two thumbs up to Silver Muse.

  8. Jim,

I believe your comment is directed at me.

I am not mistaken with what I experienced. The most recent experience was Jan. of this year.

While your dinner times were honored exactly as you requested them, ours were not. We had to change venue dates/times once we received our reservations onboard. No big deal, but a hassle nonetheless.

    Enjoy your voyage.

That is weird. No way to explain how or why you would have a different experience. No offense meant.

  9. Embarked this afternoon to this very new and striking ship. While the reaction one has to decor is subjective I must say I find the ship calming and quite lovely--at least as a first impression.

As for the My Silversea dining reservation system, it worked perfectly. This is the second cruise where I have been handed my confirmed dinner reservation list at check in. Both times the list was 100% accurate. For those who describe the system as a request not a reservation system, I believe they are mistaken

The dress code for this voyage is the one that will be ending in mid-October. But for our cruise the dress code is by dining venue, which we expected and are prepared for.

Wi-fi packages depend on your suite level. Silver Suites and above receive unlimited premium wi-fi that one device per passenger can connect to at one time. In other words I can have one device connected and my wife another one. Seems adequate to me.

    Off to muster drill.

  10. We embark Silver Muse one week from tomorrow. I called my rep at Silversea and she indicated the following:

For my cruise and the next several, things will remain as they are: reservations for all dining venues and dress code by venue.

Beginning in October the Muse will become like the other vessels: open seating in Indochine and Atlantide (kind of a main dining room) and dress code will be by number of nights.

I hope this is correct and that it is helpful.

I will report after our cruise on how things worked out.

  11. We embark on The Silver Muse two weeks from today. We have made our dinner reservations with ease.

My question is has anyone who has sailed on the Muse observations regarding how the Dress Code is being handled?

The material we received with our luggage tags had the already announced dress code by venue instructions: Atlantide and La Dame: Formal / The Grill and Spaccanapoli: Casual / and the others Informal.

(First and last night: Casual everywhere.)

    Is that being followed?

  12. Departing on the Muse in about 10 weeks and have made reservations in Atlantide, LaDame, Indochine, Hot Rocks and La Terrazza, through the web site with no difficulty.

So, while some venues require reservations all (at least for our upcoming cruise) are accepting them. This does nothing to resolve the issue of wanting or not wanting to plan far in advance. I merely pass on my experience.

  13. The "My Activities' section of the 'My Silversea" web interface is nicely formatted, and a handy way to quickly look over my itinerary.

But...Why is it impossible to simply PRINT it?

Silversea - are you listening? Some of us still like to have a printed page to carry along!

Perhaps you are using a different type of computer, but on my Personal Computer just above the "Click Here To Reserve Now" is a picture of a printer and "Print" . It formats and prints just fine.

  14. I wrote to my contact at Silversea and this is the response.

The formal nights on the Muse will not be per date, they will be per venue.

    Here is the breakdown:

    La Terrazza – Casual

    Kaiseki – Informal

    La Dame – Formal

    Atlantide – Formal

    Hot Rocks – Casual

    Spaccanapoli – Casual

    Silver Note - Informal

    Indochine – Informal
