  1. Ginger pills and Motioneaze oil worked for us on the rockiest of cruises. We avoid patches, Dramamine and Bonine because they are contraindicated with alcohol and we like to enjoy 2-3 drinks per day. The patches gave us HORRIBLE side effects so we take the natural route now. It works great!

  2. It’s a huge 2 story catamaran. It’s a nice slow ride. Takes around 30 minutes total. It has a bathroom and a snack bar. We just went through Disney last month so if you have any specific questions I’ll try to answer them.

  3. This happened to us but with NCL. We decided to cancel one cruise and book another. The cruise consultant (I think that is what it is called over there) did not cancel the one that needed to be cancelled. A couple of weeks later we contacted him to let him know the cruise had not been cancelled and he said no problem and that he would do it right away. Well... 2 weeks later still not cancelled. This happened for another month or so, back and forth until he finally cancelled it. The last couple of times we called we started calling back the next day which I guess put the pressure on. But it was really weird. We now just book ourselves and transfer it to costco.

I’m comfortable booking on my own too. I just figured I would give someone the commission especially if they could help me out if ever in a bind. Kind of a scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours deal. But I’m done with her now.

  4. PVPs are relentless, although I get it. It's sales and a lot of pressure to make target.

BUT, I specifically told them in writing to take me off their lists, noting I would never use a PVP as fortunately I have numerous travel agent friends. She confirmed that she removed me.

Then about 7 months later I got calls and emails again from a new PVP saying "I know you told us to take you off the list, but just in case you need assistance...." Wow.

Once you end up on their radar, it's hard to get rid of them.

Oddly enough, I sought her out. And she NEVER calls or bugs me. She used to call every now and then if I was poking around on the website. But nothing bothersome. I actually would like her to call me occasionally if she sees something she might think I’m interested in.

Now she’s lost my business completely.

  5. I booked a spring break cruise for 2018 and then our kid school switched spring break to a different week causing me to have to cancel the cruise.

I have called my PVP to cancel that cruise 3 different times and she never has. The first time several months ago she told me to wait until I had another cruise to rebook and final payment wasn’t until December 2017. She explained if I was booking another cruise she may be able to keep me from losing my $200 ($50pp) cancelation penalty as it was an early saver rate. I booked another cruise for October 2018 through her and explained I wanted the March cruise canceled. It never was canceled, still showed as an active reservation in my cruise manager. As November rolled around and final payment was in December I called her again and explained it was never canceled. She acted perplexed and said she would take care of it. Two weeks later and two weeks before final payment and it’s still showing as an active booking in my cruise manage. I called Carnival customer service and explained the situation. She showed it as active booking too. I asked her if she knew why my PVP was not cancelling when I asked her too and she did not know and there were no notes on the reservation explaining anything. I asked her if my PVP was avoiding cancelling it because it would penalize her in some way, she didn’t know. She did explain that if it was not canceled before final

Payment that I would not only lose the $200 penalty but also the rest of the deposit that I had paid ($300). She explained if I canceled it now that remaining $300 could be applied to another cruise.

So customer service handled in 10 minutes something my PVP couldn’t handle in several months and multiple phone calls. What gives?? Is she penalized in some way for canceling my booking? She has been great for several cruises and came highly recommended from other cruisers.

Side note...I referred a friend of mine to her. This friend had booked and paid for her parents to cruise with them. The parents had to cancel and she called our PVP to cancel the cruise as she needed the funds (around $1500) from her parents cruise to be applied to another cruise she had booked. Our PVP begged her not to cancel it because it would hurt her commissions or quota or something of that nature. My friend explained it was a huge chunk of money and she truly needed it to be applied to her other cruise booking. When my friend told me this it all clicked! I think that’s why she avoided cancelling my cruise! Was she willing to let me lose $300??? That’s insane!

Sorry, this is so lengthy. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas what in the world would make a PVP this desperate? Has Carnival changed the way their commissions are paid?

  6. You get a free bottle of red or white wine if you dine in the Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse on the first night of the cruise! You can also skip the lido buffet and dine at the Italian restaurant at the make your own pasta bar. In the evening it’s reservation only and for an extra fee. We didn’t love dinner there but lunch was decent. The spa is pretty cool so maybe check out the spa tour. I would also recommend the Behind the Fun Tour. You would need to go to guest services to reserve your spot as soon as you board. They only allow so many. It is pricey but worth it!

  7. Be sure to read the fine print on any insurance you buy so get a good understanding of how it will cover hurricanes. Each policy is different. You can also purchase “cancel for any reason” coverage. Some policies include it for a bit more money. I like insure my trip dot com because it’s easy to compare several different policies at once. Some include cancel for any reason coverage if you buy it soon after booking your cruise.

  8. I’ve cruised in September with minimal issues due to hurricanes. One port was changed because a small hurricane hit Jamaica. No big deal, we remained flexible. That’s why I suggest buying trip insurance. It sounds to me like Carnival handled the hurricanes very well this year. I personally sail in hurricane season because rates are low and it’s the best weather I have ever experienced on a cruise. The ocean was like glass, not too hot, not too cool. Also, less kids. Just know that you may need to be flexible with ports changing. I’m personally more concerned about cruising out of Galveston during fog season. Now that sounds like a nightmare. I also agree with what one poster said about it being one of the less exciting itineraries. Progresso wasn’t appealing for us so we stayed on the ship. Cozumel is nice. But I also think as a first time cruiser you will be still be “wowed” by it all. As a seasoned cruiser I cringe at the thought of a 5 day cruise. Even 7 is beginning to feel too short. But for a first time cruiser it will be fine. If you are feeling frisky go for a seven night, you won’t regret it. As for the suites, Carnival doesn’t offer many perks but their suites do come at a more affordable price tag. Personally, I don’t need a suite and won’t book one on Carnival unless I’m sailing to a popular tender port such as half moon cay to get priority tenders.

  9. Go for it!! 5 days is great for a first cruise. I think it’s perfect actually. Any shorter and you don’t get the real effect. And my guess is you will be wishing it was a 7 day cruise! Galveston is a great port to drive to. We always park with EZ Cruise, it’s locally owned and they always take good care of us. I’ve not been on Valor but my family has and liked it. I’ve not sailed RCI so I can’t comment there. I’ve been happy with Carnival so far. Sailed with them at least 5 times. September will be a great time of year. Just be sure to buy trip insurance as soon as you book. I buy mine through insuremytrip dot com. It’s cheaper and better coverage than Carnivals insurance. And just know that you are spoiling yourself with a suite. It’s not a bad thing, you just won’t ever be satisfied with anything less [emoji38]. If you really want to have some fun Disney sails out of Galveston in November and December...they are AMAZING!

  10. 100% agree with that statement. On my last cruise, my uncle who I was close with passed away on the first day of the cruise. I obviously was upset and thought about flying back home at the first port but was talked out of it by my cousins. I did the best I could and ended up having a great cruise under the circumstances. No matter what....it's always what you make of it!

Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry. I’m glad you stayed and made the best of it. I’m sure that is what your uncle would have wanted you to do.

  11. I’ve been on the Breeze twice land loved it. Especially the aft pool. I don’t think it ever felt more crowded than any other ship I’ve been on and I hate crowds. It is also the largest ship I’ve ever been on. We have the Vista booked for next year and we are excited to give it a shot. I say go for it or you’re always going to wonder about it. Any day on a cruise is better than a day on land to me! I think it’s all about your state of mind. If you go in expecting a negative experience, you are sure to find it.

  12. Here is the closest review I could find...About 10 rooms down from your area. Doesn't mention anything negative about the IMax

Thank you for finding that for me! I’ve had a hard time finding info about this. I was able to google search some cruise critic comments on it and can’t find anything specific about this exact area. Either I’m not using it properly or the cruise critic search function is difficult. Anywho, I decided to change our cabin now to avoid any possible issues. We moved down to deck 8 with cabins above and below and nothing of interest in the general area. Thanks for everyone’s help!

  13. I did just look at the Vista fun times and it looks like the last movie some nights start at 11:15 pm so that's something to think about as well if your up late like we are it won't matter much

I looked at the schedule too. We are a family of four, two kids ages 11 and 7. We may be up until 10-11pm sometimes but not every night. We use white noise to sleep to help with sounds from outside the room. I’m hoping someone with experience can advise me! Thank you!

  14. I’m looking for advice on a cabin in this area near the Imax. We have booked balcony cabin 9287. The deck plans show it is across the hall from a gray area which looks to be the top or roof/ceiling of the Imax theatre. Can anyone who has stayed near this grey area tell me if there were any noise issues with this area? The last thing I want I vacation is speaker noise from the theatre. Thanks!!c8daf83796ad914495a8166c370d69bc.jpg
