  1. What does that have to do with the Breakaway and sailing out of New Orleans?

I referring to the post by Two Wheels Only who stated that Carnival Vista will be in Miami. I quoted the post I was referring to. Read the second paragraph. The Vista is not staying in Miami much longer. I think when you read Two Wheels Only’s quote in my post you will no longer be confused[emoji5]

  2. Sonia was our MDR server on the Breeze in Sept 2016. She was excellent and fun to talk to. We enjoyed her very much. Has anyone had her as a server on the Vista. She said she was going to the Vista when it came to Miami as her boyfriend lives in Miami and she can see him more often than when she was on the Breeze out of Galveston. I may have spelled her name wrong as I seem to remember an odd spelling but it was pronounced “Son-ya”. I was wondering if she would be on the Vista coming to Galveston in Sep 2018 (maybe she dumped the boyfriend[emoji12]). She was tall, medium build, very short pixie haircut that she wore a bit messy, hair was light brown. Let me know if you know her! We hope to sail with her again!

  3. The "musical chairs" with the ships can be seen as both a good thing and a bad thing. I have no desire to do a Bliss-Alaska cruise but Bliss-Caribbean from Miami works for me (waiting to get future dates is frustrating).

Escape's Miami/NY life needs to coordinate with Bliss' Miami life. One of those 2 ships needs to be in Miami throughout the year. BA and Escape can do the same in NY. GA is a nice ship but it can't be the only NCL big ship sailing from Miami (summer 2018) for long periods of time. MSC Seaside (renovated terminal), RCCL Symphony OTS (new terminal), and even Carnival Vista will all be in Miami vs. Getaway.

Vista goes to Galveston September 2018!

  4. Yes, that is probably likely. I don't know when schools get out in Baltimore though.

I'm doing NE/Canada also on Adventure, but late June right after our daughter gets out of school. An inside for the 7-day out of New Jersey is $722/pp. An Ocean View is $971.

The price I found is for 9 nights so that tells me it’s a good deal! Thanks.

  5. Can't answer the hotel question. If you fly in the day of, yes you can get a transfer from the airport to the port. However, they charge per person and with a family of 4 it can be significantly cheaper with literally any other option (even private car).

Yes that’s always been my experience as well. We usually drive to Galveston so I don’t have to worry about it.

  6. We like this itinerary; would not hesitate to recommend it.

IMO, a balcony is not essential, especially considering that one is twice the price of an OV. Grandeur has lots of spaces with great sea views, a full promenade deck, upper decks with full views, etc.

I agree that Baltimore is a great port to sail from. Be sure to be out on deck to watch the ship go under the bridge!

I am always totally fine with an inside room as I prefer to be on deck. The hubs wants an ocean view. The difference in price isn’t significant so I’ll compromise!

I’ve ALWAYS wanted to sail under a bridge. I’m a bit of a cruise nerd. I’m totally intrigued by all things ship related. How fun!

  7. In early June school will still be in session, at least up here. They close school at even the whiff of snow here, plus there are two week long breaks (one in February, one in April) so schools get out really late compared to other areas.

Temps can vary with weather, expect mid 50's to mid 60's getting slightly cooler as you go up further north. Lows at night will typically be low to upper 40's. You can expect some rain days, but shouldn't be every day.

Be aware that the free shuttle bus in Bar Harbor (called Island Explorer) will not be operating that early so you'll need to make alternate ($$) arrangements to visit Acadia National Park. With 4 people, a rental car is probably the most economical.

If you go to Saint Johns NB, be sure to research the tide tables as they make a major difference in what you can see around the Bay of Fundy.

I didn’t even think about school being in session still. In Oklahoma our kids finish up at the end of May.

Since the shuttle isn’t running yet and school is still in I bet that’s part of the reason why prices are low? I priced it at about $725pp in an ocean view for my family of 4 for 9 nights. Seems very low to me!

  8. We did Canada/New England from Baltimore on Enchantment a few years back. It is still one of my family's favorite cruises. My kids (who were I think 7,7 and 13 at the time) loved hiking in Bar Harbor, walking the freedom trail in Boston, walking the trail by the water in Portland, and touring the Citadel as well as the maritime museum in Halifax. Halifax and Bar Harbor are 2 of our all time favorite ports. In fact, when I booked our Caribbean cruise this year, my family kept asking why I wasn't booking NE/Canada again. :')

I always get a balcony as I enjoy just sitting on the balcony and watching the water, but it was especially nice while sailing down the bay. That year, we did have rain the first couple of days and spent more time inside, but my kids just enjoy relaxing on a cruise as much as I do. They read, play cards, go to trivia, etc. They know when we get to port there will be a lot of walking as my hubby is an outdoors kind of guy who plans big hikes where ever we go. ;)

I have to say, sailing out of Baltimore was one of the easiest ports to embark/disembark from. It does help we can drive there. :)

Your kids sound like my kids! Do you remember what month you sailed? Were there a lot of kids on the ship? Was it ever warm enough to swim?

I here great things about Baltimore as far as the terminal goes. We will be flying in as we live in Oklahoma. Is the airport close to the terminal?

  9. I am looking at the Grandeur June 7-16th 2017. The price seems reasonable for a 9 night cruise. If I tell you more about us will you tell me if this cruise sound like a good fit? What would the weather be like on this itinerary? What types of things do you do at these ports? Is a balcony a must for scenery? Will the ship be inundated with kids or is this more of an “adult” itinerary?

We cruise often on Disney and Carnival. We like the smaller ships, don’t need bells and whistles. We are a family of four-myself and Husband are mid thirties, kids are 10 and 7. The kids are not big fans of kids clubs, they like to hang with us, play cards, swim, read, eat. They are well behaved, mannerly and enjoy most activities we enjoy. They don’t need constant children’s entertainment to be content. We have never sailed RCI. Thoughts?

  10. Good luck! Prices have been higher last 6-12 months for sure. Supply and demand. Im sure Carnival has it worked out with their algorithms. Summer and spring break cruises typically run higher. My bet is September cruises next year may be cheaper from this past September's round of hurricanes. First few weeks after thanksgiving and after new year seem to have lowest prices in the past.

Unfortunately, due to school we are stuck cruising during those high times. It’s just too tough on our kids with all the makeup work to miss school. We are stuck paying those prices for now[emoji19]

  11. WASH YOUR HANDS LIKE A CRAZY PERSON!! For a full 20 seconds, with warm water and SCRUB. Every time you eat, enter your cabin, use the restroom, etc. Especially after touching the tongs on the buffet. Use your knuckle to press buttons on the elevator. also take TONS of vitamin C. Google Suzanne Humphries vitamin C protocol for whooping cough. It’s simple and if it can cure whooping cough it will knock out anything else. We also use Cold Calm homeopathic remedy found at most health food stores. We never get sick using these protocols.

  12. Well, then, I guess I will just go into that cruise on Breeze with an open mind, and plan on having a great time, because in answer to the OPs question as to what it will take to get me to stop cruising:

I will cruise until I can no longer due to health, or I run out of money--lol! Seriously--I am a cruise addict, and if I could afford to cruise more than once a year, I would! My hubby and I are retired, and hope to move closer to Florida ports eventually. We currently live outside Buffalo, NY, so we always have to factor in the cost of flights to our total vacation costs. I would like to avoid that one added cost if possible.

We LOVED the Breeze!!! We’ve been on plenty of ships and sailed on Disney and the Breeze is right up there as one of our favorites! Been on the Breeze twice and about to book it a theirs time to say goodbye as it leaves Galveston soon. I think it also has to do with your state of mind. Go in looking for the negatives and you will find them[emoji5]

  13. I really caution with early saver rates also nowadays. Depends on the category of room you are booking and supply of those existing rooms. The prices are higher and based on the demand probably will stay that way. I can remember getting several price drops in the past, but now its very rare to see any with room categories selling out very quickly. :(

I’ve never gotten a price drop with ES! But it’s always the cheapest rate out of any of them so I book it. I wait until the price is lower (or just right for me) and then book the lowest rate which is usually ES. I also book well in advance.

  14. Is it just me or do prices seem REALLY high right now? I’ve been watching sailings out of Galveston for quite some time now and it seems the prices have gone up quite a bit. I’m looking at dates around spring break and summer so I expect them to be on the higher side but good gravy! Granted I could book ES and hope for a price drop. I’m crossing my fingers for a half off deposit sale soon too! Give me all your predictions on when you think some good sales may happen before Christmas! Anyone had luck with Black Friday deals?

  15. What happens if you file the itinerary change claim and then have to cancel?

Edited to add. I’m on this sailing but haven’t bought insurance yet. I have another cruise booked that has itinerary change coverage and it says the following:

COVERAGE E ITINERARY CHANGE In the event Your Travel Supplier makes a change in Your Trip itinerary after Your Scheduled Departure Date, which prevents You from participating in an event/activity Prepaid prior to departure and scheduled on Your Trip itinerary, non-refundable Prepaid event/activity expenses will be payable up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Confirmation of Benefits. Benefits will not be paid if a comparable event/activity of equivalent cost is rescheduled during the course of Your Trip. These benefits will not duplicate any other benefits payable under the Policy or any coverage(s) attached to the Policy.

You may want to read your policy!
