  1. Here is another newspaper article about the incident: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12156265/Cruise-ship-passenger-airlifted-hospital-800-miles-home-says-wasnt-ill.html?fbclid=IwAR2ZSB0HPI52ljaIqFNtWEGTiz9ZAYQ8nQmLN6xlSjtxuKqQDJmGZi7sQmw
  2. On another forum was this post regarding the passengers evacuated by helicopter on May 24.
  3. All the replies I have seen recently here vindicate my positions: - It is not the weather that is solely to blame for the disappointment of missed ports but is a systemic consequence of Princess's decisions. A case in point is the use of these huge ships that are difficult to control in winds that other ships can handle. - People who downplay the tragedy of missing ports are those who go on lots of cruises. So for them, it is not a tragedy but a statistic. But for someone who has lost out on a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see Iceland, at great expense, travel distance, and exhaustion of vacation time, it is indeed a tragedy. - Yes cruises I guess are not for me, as in the future I want to go to the place I paid for and yearned for.
  4. Again, it is true that weather is unpredictable and can cause a safety issue. Yes, Princess should be commended for acting conservatively and giving highest priority to safety considerations. But when I am in the cabin and turn on the TV there, I see all these destinations touted. "Come to Warnemunde port, go from there on an excursion to Berlin. See Checkpoint Charlie. Observe the remnants of the Berlin Wall." "We will now interview a gentleman who escaped from Communism to freedom by hiding in a furniture truck. Luckily the East German guard didn't have a search dog that night." I don't see them saying, "Well there's a 20% chance you will never make it to that port, and your time and money will be for naught, and we will explode away that dream we instilled in you to see that place. You will have no recourse because we give you your medallion we will make you sign something, and you will sign because you essentially have no choice, and in there it says that Princess can unfulfill anything and everything." Learned my lesson about what cruising is really all about.
  5. Some people here are saying missing ports is quite common and others are saying it’s rare. In either case the motivation is to absolve Princess of responsibility. So be it.
  6. Going on a vacation should not be a game of roulette. I am not wealthy enough. Maybe some people are. I paid to go to major Iceland ports, and I expect Princess to get me there, or don’t sell the cruise to me in the first place.
  7. If someone is retired and goes on cruises regularly, then they can justify to themselves, well overall we get to 80% of the ports as we travel around the world over the years and then they're okay with things. But imagine someone who saw the advertisements and heard from friends and relatives how wonderful Iceland is and dreamed of going there, exhausting their three weeks of vacation, spending thousands of hard-earned dollars, traveling thousands of miles, and Princess omits the major Iceland ports. Yes, the immediate reason is the weather, but Princess is responsible for - choosing the ships - choosing the routes - choosing the times of year the ship sails - setting expectations via marketing and advertising - writing one-sided contracts everybody has to sign - dealing with foreknowledge - making tradeoffs between profits and guest satisfaction
  8. You are right, have learned my lesson. If I really want to visit a particular destination, cannot count on a cruise to get me there. The onboard experience is what I one is primarily buying, and the ports and excursions are just icing on the cake and may or not actually happen. If I am bitter, it was because I was naïve about this but now I know.
  9. The Sky Princess has left Southampton and continued on, headed to Scandinavia. And Princess has pulled the same thing! Replaced Skaagen, Denmark, with Zebrugge, Belgium. Less time in Copenhagen. Changed the day arriving in Oslo. The reason given this time is scheduled maintenance delay.
  10. The missed ports situation is not just a captain’s decision but in my opinion a systemic failure on the part of Princess. My next cruise, whenever it happen, will assuredly not be with Princess. I dreamed of Iceland for a long time, devoted my meager annual vacation time, traveled thousands of miles. And the main objective of the trip was not fulfilled. Also the tour group I went with had arranged private excursions not through Princess because the group had special requirements. Changing the order of ports or skipping ports messed up those tours unrefundably; hopefully our travel insurance will reimburse us. I disagree with all the pollyannish comments here that try to rationalize the way Princess screwed us over.
  11. I will be making a travel insurance claim for non-Princess excursions in Iceland. The ship gave us two letters, but neither letter documents that the ship never made it to Akureyri. How to document that fact? Guest Services is of no help. Thanks.
  12. Guest Services confirmed that the Future Cruise Credit can be applied towards the future cruise fare itself.
  13. One paragraph says what cruises the credit pertains to in terms of dates. And then the next paragraph states the particular charges that the credit can be applied to. The idea that it can be applied to cruise fare is not stated. Will check with Guest Services on what the interpretation should be.
  14. It’s not clear to me that the 20% can be applied to a future cruise fare. Reading it carefully, it might only be applicable to third-party items like pre-trip excursions or insurance.
  15. Princess is issuing Future Cruise Credit worth 20% of this cruise’s fare.
  16. Article on our cruise here: https://www.cruisehive.com/weather-ruins-cruise-for-guests-onboard-princess-ship/102021
  17. Agree that Sky Princess could easily have stopped today at Akureyri, but Princess just doesn’t’ care. They would rather have an extra day at sea so they can sell more drinks to sad passengers.
  18. Went with a large group on this cruise. The group had arranged local (non-Princess) excursions in each original city. Because of the Iceland port changes, lost all the money we prepaid for those local tours (might be able to make trip out insurance claim). People in the tour group dedicated their annual vacation weeks to this cruise, planned and looked forward for months to see the sites of Iceland, and are now so disappointed and swear never to go on Princess against again. Guest Services says sorry for your lost inconvenience but they are tone-deaf; it’s more than inconvenience: It’s lost time traveling half way round the world to get to the cruise shop, the money sunk, and the dreamed once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the unique Iceland sights. The group has now forsworn Princess, will not cruise on the line again.
  19. New to this thread. The magic show had very little magic-trick content, just childish nonsense prattle going boringly on and on.
