Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Cruise critic won't let me copy the email I got from NCL on this. It basically says you need to have this form filled out. https://www.ncl.com/sites/default/files/ParentGuardianForm_01302012b.pdf
  2. From the NCL website: For Owner’s Suites & Garden Villas: 1 bottle of Moet Champagne upon embarkation Custom selection of liquor (1 bottle for cruises less than 7 days; 3 bottles for cruises 7 days or longer) upon embarkation 2 bottles of spring water replenished daily 2 bottles of sparkling water replenished daily 6 canned sodas replenished daily For all other suites: 1 bottle of sparkling wine upon embarkation 1 bottle of spring water upon embarkation https://www.ncl.com/why-cruise-norwegian/cruise-accommodations/the-haven
  3. There are tutorials online if you need them. Here's one. They use a different router than the one the original poster suggested on a different cruise line but it's the idea is the same This is one for a different router but also talks about the benefits of using a router when traveling generally, not just on cruises
  4. I don't think anyone is talking about outright stealing wifi. Maybe some people are hoping to get away with paying for a somewhat less expensive package. I'm planning on doing this on my next cruise because I travel with multiple devices (phone, ipad, work laptop, etc.) even if I only use one at a time. I don't have the luxury at this point in my life of being unreachable. The job that affords me the income and flexibility to occasionally go on cruises also expects me to be available for a question or quick email if needed. On a cruise last year (not NCL) it was incredibly onerous to log out of one device and into another. It was a frustrating hassle and I spent more time than I wanted connecting to the internet for what I hoped would be a quick check in. For $40 I can (hopefully) have my devices connect more seamlessly, have a more relaxing trip with less irritation around the bad internet I paid a fortune for, and overall less time dealing with my devices. Is it possible that at some point my phone will still be downloading a podcast while I'm checking in with work and technically I had two devices connected for a few seconds. Maybe. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, I don't think I'm looting Norwegian's coffers if it happens, and I don't think I'm violating the terms of what I paid for. But I certainly could be wrong and clearly other people will feel differently.
  5. Zero. I never change currency in the US. It's almost always better to wait an use an ATM once you arrive. Every international airport I've been to in Europe has an ATM and it's marked on the maps. By far the cheapest and often easiest way to get euros is from an ATM in country. You probably need less than you think but if you need more, Rome's a big city and there are banks with ATMs out front everywhere.
  6. I watched this and didn't understand about the drink package charges. They said they had a drinks package but had to pay for soft drinks of they were brought to the room. I have a free at sea package and it says soft drinks are included. I didn't understand what was happening here. I'm booked on my first NCL cruise in the haven and would like to avoid a bunch of unexpected drink charges.
  7. That's fine if that's what the charge is. The OP said the problem is that she can't get any documentation from RCCL about what the charge is that would allow her to follow up. RCCL can't charge your credit card without explanation of the charge. The credit card company can do this research for you and will probably get better results given the difficulties she's run into. This isn't a huge deal and is a service most credit cards provide. Contact them, tell them you don't recognize the charge, and you haven't been able to get a receipt when you've contacted RCCL. The CC company will come back to you in a few days to a week either with a receipt documenting the charge or a credit to the card if it was charged in error. It's frankly good practice to contact the credit card company with questions about charges you don't recognize, they tend to appreciate the questions because it helps keep their fraud costs down, they help you get the information you need or want if you're having problems, and if it is a valid charge and you just didn't recognize it then it's not a big deal. It seems like there's a lot of fearmongering around calling your credit card company about a charge and there really shouldn't be.
  8. How can you possibly know that the fee is valid if there is no documentation for what the fee is? We're just assuming this is what the fee is for. There is no bill, no receipt, no record of any kind. That is more than enough information for a challenge. And it's absolutely not fraud. I've challenged charges for far less. Let the credit card company do the work for you. It's very simple: contact the credit card company, tell them that you don't recognize this charge, tell them you've contacted the cruise line multiple times and no one can tell you what the charge is for, and give them any records of the times you've contacted the cruise company. They'll take over getting a resolution for you and remove the charge from your card until it's resolved, one way or the other.
  9. This is probably a silly question but it's something I wonder about... We're going on our first family cruise on The Getaway soon. My 13 year old is especially excited about the water slides. I want to give him the freedom to do activities on his own around the ship but I can't figure out what one does with their room key on the waterslides. I don't think wearing it on a lanyard on the fast slides would be safe and probably not allowed. Would it work for him to wear it on his wrist?
  10. I've booked our first cruise directly with the cruise line but I've since seen a lot about using travel agents for cruises and I'm wondering if I should switch my reservation over. I'm just not sure what a travel agent could do for us. For context, my reservation is for two rooms on NCL Getaway in the Haven, a 2 bedroom family villa and a courtyard penthouse that are next to each other. My parents are joining us during my children's spring break. Because it's spring break and I'm traveling with kids, we're not very flexible on dates. We're also not flexible on room type. We already have the free at sea package through NCL. I guess I don't know what a travel agent would help with at this point but it is our first cruise. Any thoughts on if it's still worth trying to switch my booking over to a travel agent?
