Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Ah, cool. The aerial shots fooled me. I knew about the drone restrictions in Antarctica, hence my question.
  2. Did you have to get special permission from Atlas to use the drone? Were there any restrictions on use?
  3. They’re fairly similar to north face tri-climate parkas. They run true to size for parkas. Keep in mind you may find that to be a bit roomy if you’re not used to technical cold weather gear. This is intentional to allow a bit more room for layering and for movement.
  4. I had a great time on my Antarctic cruise last year, and am planning to do the 12-Night Reykjavik to Longyearbyen cruise in August (and on the same ship!) I do have some questions about logistics and shore excursions though: Since there is no pre-departure hotel stay included, what are the logistics of getting to the ship? Are we just supposed to make our way to the ship? Will there be some kind of transportation provided from a central location to the ship? Along those lines, is there a recommended hotel in Reykjavik that we should stay at (for example, if a central pickup is done at a hotel?) Are there any optional excursions we can sign up for in Reykjavik? I'm planning on getting into Reykjavik at least 1 day prior to the day the ship departs. When the ship arrives and the cruise ends in Longyearbyen, what are the logistics? Are we just loaded onto transport and taken to the airport for the flight to Oslo? Is there an option to extend our stay in Longyearbyen by a day or two so we can sightsee? Are there any optional exclusions we can sign up for in Longyearbyen? Are there any shore excursions we can sign up for during the cruise (other than the listed Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland)? I've looked through the Atlas Ashore 2024 Shoreside Excursions Arctic - Svalbard & Greenland brochure and didn't see anything. TIA
  5. My apologies in advance for not directly messaging @AOV Communications but apparently, the "messages" feature is disabled on this board 😀 I was on the November 17 World Voyager sailing to Antarctica. Towards the end of the cruise, the gentlemen who was the "Hotel Manager" (a Portuguese, I forget his name), told passengers that they could have their parkas shipped to their homes instead of having to carry them back home. I told him I'd like to take advantage of this service and provided him with my contact details (home address, phone number, etc.) When I hadn't heard anything form Atlas in late December, I asked the Atlas-assigned TA (Avoya Travel) if they could look into it. They then told me that Atlas told them that a shipping container of parkas had been lost, but that I should expect my parka "soon". I just asked them if they could follow up again on this, and they said that they doubted Atlas would have any information, as their assigned Atlas contact was in Antarctica. Additionally, they doubted that Atlas had any at their "home office" and would have to get one from one of the ships. Finally, they kept trying to tell me that Atlas was only making that offer as an informal courtesy (sort of implying that I'm being a jerk for pushing for this). Given that we're about to enter the bitterly frigid northern hemisphere summer season here in Philadelphia, I was hoping to have my parka by now to stay warm on those bitingly cold June nights. Also, it is a cool souvenir of my journey. Any chance you could look into this? I'm happy to provide my contact details if you have a real mail address. Thanks! Jim
