It appears to be a 40 minute drive from the Rosyth dockyards to the Edinburgh Castle. I hope there will be some type of transportation option if we end up there. I have wanted to see the Military Tattoo since a visit to Edinburgh 30 years ago.

Thank you for the detailed response. I have until just before the trip to cancel the hotel, so I may do more research before cancelling. It is expensive! I am saving lots of money by booking my own event tickets (not using the ships excursion), but the savings require that things go as planned.

Is it easy to get transportation back to the ship near mid-night when everyone is leaving the event? This was my concern. I will be ready for the rain and maybe cool weather. What form of transportation would you advise?

Our cruise on Quest starts in Oslo, Norway and travels to Leith, Aberdeen, Invergordon, Kirkwall, Stornaway, Oban all in Scotland, and then Douglas Isle of Man, Liverpool GB and Dublin Ire. Any info on these ports would be helpful.

My husband and I will be in Scotland in August this summer and we are happy to get advise from those experienced with the ports. I hope Edinburgh has good seas because we have tickets to the Military Tattoo at the castle and to a fringe festival event the following day. We were really excited to have this trip scheduled in August. We are staying at a hotel near the castle overnight to avoid transportation back and forth to the cruise ship. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you to those of you who recommended I talk with my travel agent about the incorrect application of my loyalty nights by Azamara. They are correcting the booking and sending me a refund. Hopefully I will get the refund before my trip in August.

When did this begin: as we already knew you can now combine your loyalty nights with any benefit on offer at the time of booking. My husband and I went from Elite to Elite Plus on a cruise in December. We signed up for a new cruise last month and were told we could not combine free nights with the current promotion, and had to pay full price on the cruise to get the "free" nights. It did end up being cheaper than the promotion so we went ahead and booked it. Also, only my free nights were applied. I am not sure why they could not apply my husbands. I used a travel agent and even she was confused. Were we cheated?
