  1. We left Vienna on the 30th. After reading your comments, comment you posted after reading widely available info, I shared concerns with our TUI Rep. She claimed that there were no problems ahead and all the data TUI had given her was positive. The rest, as they say, is now history.
  2. We had a different A.C. issue. It was fine in the rooms but in the Bars it was red hot. There was an engineer on the boat in Vienna and he ordered a part and was supposed to meet up with the boat a bit further up. I would imagine he probably met up with her after she moved berths in Deggendorf? They must have cancelled at least 2 Cruises “up north”? Hopefully it gets back into its routine once it gets to Frankfurt. hopefully someone from a future cruise will be on here to confirm what’s happened to the crew following the Deggendorf debacle?
  3. So, after a 2 week unplanned stay in Deggendorf TUI Isla is finally on the move, heading for Frankfurt.
  4. I really don’t have any skin in the game anymore. I’m at home in the UK in my bed and I’m NEVER going near a River Cruise EVER again. However, I’m going to follow Isla’s progress for at least the next 4 1/2 years. 🤪
  5. I heard someone say that our TUI Isla Cruise was like a relocation cruise, Budapest to Frankfurt. Looking at the upcoming Cruises for Isla for 24, I think they could’ve been right. It’s looking like she’s supposed to be cruising around the Rhine, Switzerland and Amsterdam for most of the rest of the year. So, when is she going to head north/west and is there anything stopping that? I’m just being nosey now.
  6. I get the feeling that on a TUI boat, due to cost reasons, the process will involve a man, a plug and a bucket.😂
  7. I’m assuming that TUI have cancelled at least two cruises for Isla so they’re probably keeping her in “out of the way” in Deggendorf until she can sail to catch up with the next programmed cruise? maybe they’ll be fixing the A.C. whilst she’s there as well? I wonder if they’ve still got the TUI logos and Name covered whilst she’s there?
  8. I know this might seem like a silly question but how much does a ship being empty, ie. no passengers or luggage, effect how low it sits in the water? I was looking out of the window when the Isla went under the bridge in Passau and it was VERY close. The passengers said on the Saturday morning that the water was half way up their portholes so I’m assuming they’d taken on ballast before going under the bridge.
  9. Why can’t I get the name Jack Torrance out of my head? I do hope that she’s done them right and that we won’t face a clawback.
  10. I feel sorry for the Crew and Staff. They’ve been stranded in Deggendorf for well over a week now with, I would imagine, no chance of getting off until today. There’s only so much deep cleaning they could do and only so many games of Connect 4 and Deck Quoits you can play? Skyla and Maya now seem to be on Magical Mystery Tours of small ports in Hungary and Austria. It didn’t feel like it at the time but looking back now I think the Isla 140 were actually quite lucky?
  11. Skyla is moored in Kalocsa. As I understand it the next set of passengers are being bused there tomorrow to embark instead of Budapest. They will be given their new itinerary once onboard and given £50 for the inconvenience. From what I can see Kalocsa “port” is like Deggendorf with curtains. If it’s stuck there for a few days I’m sure the passengers will enjoy their 90 minute walk into town to see the sights?
  12. Keep your eyes on the TUI Skyla. Her travails and that of her passengers could become the stuff of River Cruising legend. I’m guessing that TUI needs a Licence to operate on the big rivers and I’d not be surprised if said licence will be removed after the debacle of the way they’ve handled the floods? TUI’s third ship, MAYA seems to be the only one with a secure mooring?
  13. I know it’s usual for a Yorkshire man to moan but on this occasion I was more than happy with our refund. It’s paid for our impromptu Easy Jet flight from Munich to Manchester, the two nights we’ve just had in the Cotswolds and will also pay for our Holiday in Cyprus in September. All in all, very happy.
  14. Me again, couldn’t resist this one. Mist and Drizzle, in the UK we call it Mizzle. We had a well known weather girl called Ulrika Jonssen who coined the phrase.
  15. Well folks, it’s been a blast. Thank you for all the info. over the past few days/weeks. I’ve learned so much and have really appreciated all the help and support. You guys know your stuff and more power to your elbows for helping people in the future. all that said, River Cruising is definitely not for me and Mrs Yorkie. so, I/we will bow out now and plough our land based holiday furrows. take care all and THANK YOU. over and out.
  16. I was desperately trying to get them to take a donation to an emergency/disaster fund. I even got a translation for Police Benevolent Fund and showed it to a Copper. He said, ”All we ask for is Thank You”
  17. If there’s any truth to the rumour we heard yesterday then the Isla getting to Frankfurt may face another obstacle. Keep your eye on your local news to see if she actually moves. i wont repeat the rumour as I really don’t know if it’s true but if it is I’m sure it will appear on your local wires and you’ll then fully understand my comment.
  18. One of the passengers on the TUI Isla had a drone with him. This is where she was berthed in Deggendorf.
  19. No, we’ve done a sea cruise before but we’re a bit Goldilocks with duration. 7 nights is too short, 14 nights too long and 11 nights is just right which is why we chose this cruise.
  20. I’d just like to say a big thank you to Notamermaid and Steamboats and others for all the info. over the last few days. I’ve learned so much, so quick. I’m wondering if the blissful ignorance of others on the ship might have been better for my sanity🤪 As I’m sure you can appreciate I won’t be rushing to book another River Cruise. All the best.
  21. It wasn’t ribs, they got a barge and made 2 trips with passengers and 1 with passengers and luggage. It really was a massive undertaking using many people who should have been and probably wanted to be helping with the job of saving their town.
