  2. Any updates about the slideboard charge?

I am thinking about booking a 14 day cruise on the Seaside this summer for a party of seven, two of them kids that LOVES slides. This could actually be a deal breaker to me.

  3.

To me, the whole "the ship will wait for you" thing is worth about 10$.

You are right. And the thing is, the ship will not wait for you at all times, they do make sure you get transport to next available port, though. But here on CC, it has become a "fact" that the ship will wait for you, as long as it is a ship excursion.

  4. No blah, blah, blah! The point is it's costing you another 25.00 per cruise about 3.50 a day. It's called inflation or however the spin is.

In the grand scheme of things it's minimal. Hell that's the Port taxes on drinks before sail away.

Yes NCL is profiting in the long run, it's a business!

Inflation? Really? I must ask my boss for a big raise. Cause my paycheck hasn't really gotten 11% higher the last couple of months... Might be different in the US, though.

  5. Did this last week on Getaway. We had to pack all our things in our cabin. We got new tags for the new cabin and our bags were moved there. We had our bags inside our new room at 1:30.

On the Sun in may though, they moved all things from the cabin without having to pack them in to the suitcases.

  6. I as on the Sun reposition in may which used the same port. It was the first time ever a cruise ship was there. NCL changed from Valparaiso mainly because the risk of strikes in that port.

it is a big container port, you have to take a bus from the port entrance to the ship, in may they did not have any terminal building. The ones who boarded there made their check in on board.

We were b2b from Buenos Aires.

Once you left the port area it was a very short, quite pretty, walk to the city center. With a big, modern shopping center, a seafood market, some sea lions and everything you can imagine along the way (10 minutes walk)

A lot of people were picked up at the port gate with private taxis and vans after disembarkation there.

  7. I have no problems at all with the quality of the food in the MDR. I actually think that NCL is in the top among the mainstream lines regarding MDR food. On the other hand, in my mind the whole experience is lacking in the MDR on NCL. No really peronal service and very rushed.

We usually eat about half of our dinners in the MDR, and haft in speliality restaurants. While I think the food quality is above avarage in the MDR on NCL, I think the speciality restaurants are overrated, food wise. Nothing that really stands out. We often go there for the quietness och the calm and the more personal service.

  8. The 10% tax had been around for years on sailings from Spain. I can remember this being included 7 years + ago on Royal Caribbean. It's nothing new. So the issue seems to have been how Carnival have dealt with pre-purchased packages where they have clearly realised the package should actually be subject to VAT. What they should have done was give the option of cancelling, or paying 10% tax on the package price. It'd be interesting to know what they are actually paying to the Spanish tax authorities. It's a shabby way to treat customers.

For the package purchased onboard we are definitely not having this issues. I suspect NCL get around this because they have so many free drinks package offers for UK clients. If the drinks are included as part of the holiday price presumably there's nothing to add VAT on to.

For what it's worth, I don't think Carnival have deliberately duped people. I think it's a screw up on their part. But they've clearly made it worse in the way they've handled it.

Yes, I agree. I have pre purchased (it saved me $5/day!), I don't mind at all to pay the 10% extra for the package once onboard. But, I really would mind to pay 10% extra per drink.

The value of the package, and my drinks, are $49:95/day. Regardless if I have just one coke, or 15 glasses of champagne. The problem is, the VAT for 15 glasses of champagne is 30$.

  9. I also paid in advance for an alcohol package and 3 x soft drink packages using my credit card;

every single soft drink had 15c applied to it

I'm guessing 10% were added to each adult drink, as well?

This will be a really expensive drink package to me.

    What a fiasco, Carnival.
