We are Diamond and coming back to Royal after a few years away. Can the Balcony discount be combined with shareholders benefit or it's still not allowed?

  2. The Thermal Suite is an adults only area. Often quiet, but not 100% guarantee. The ship normally sails full, but there will be more families during the holidays.

Just got back from Breakaway. Had Thermal Suite passes for both of us. It's a very nice area but not everyone understood the meaning of "relaxation" area. People were screaming in the pool, talking very loud, laughing and trying to talk over each other completely ignoring that other people were trying to read or just relax. It wasn't once occurrence either. Every day we had the same situation.

Also as someone mentioned before many people occupied heated lounges for HOURS, they treated these lounges like the ordinary places to relax, sleep, read, etc. We usually come to the Thermal Suite in the late morning for an hour or two but after 2-3 days of constant noise and not be able to use heated chairs for even 15-20 min we switched to an hour or so in the evening. Not very convenient but we couldn't take the morning mayhem anymore.

It was our 4 Breakaway cruise and we always buy thermal suite passes when they are available, we usually enjoy the piece and quiet of the place. Not lately though. Not sure we'll spend over $400 again if we can't enjoy the place as we used to.

  3. Thank you for the report. We were on the same cruise, had a good time but the service really went down from our previous experiences with NCL. Granted it was in the buffet but I also picked up the tea cup and it was a lipstick on the side of the cup.

We had the best and the worst waiters in the same restaurant - Taste. The best was a young lady who made sure we were served quickly to make it to the Latitudes party ( put her on My Hero card). The worst was male waiter who literally threw plates on the table before we finished our previous curse, didn't refill the glasses and generally looked like he didn't want to be there.

We never got the $25 credit for missing a day in Bermuda. Could it be that you received because you were in Haven?

  4. We always feel that by the time we actually de-stress enough to feel like we're on vacation it's halfway over. With the 14 days we felt were in total vacation mode and weren't even half way done! On the 7 day mark we kept saying how great it was that we still had another whole week ahead of us. We didn't get sick of anything and it brought us to some islands that we hadn't been to. We are now spoiled and 7 days doesn't seem worth it anymore :(

This is exactly how we feel! We just got from 7-day Breakaway cruise. The stress and the tension (life happened) started wearing off only on day 4. And in 3 days we had to disembark to get back to reality again. We did one 14-days cruise and absolutely loved it!

  5. With some of the extras mentioned, you would get your choice of 2 "Free At Sea" promotions instead of 1 for "insides" - that could cover your internet usage with a 250 minutes plan (for light use, checking email, etc. while at sea ***) and $50 shore excursion credit per day per stateroom (that's $50 x 4 port days = $200 equivalent (non) cash-back)

    .

I'm not sure this is the correct information about $50 excursion credit. Every time we chose this perk we were told that this is ONE TIME $50 credit, not in every port.

  6. It was so easy and we had so much fun! We booked directly through Comfort Suites Paradise Island, and you automatically get passes with the room. I checked prices on other online travel sites before booking and found they had the best rate at the time. Be sure to book it for the night you are arriving, not the night before, and when you get there you just check in and check out, and they will direct you where to go. If you only have two people, you may be better off booking day passes through Atlantis, but as a family of four, we saved hundreds of dollars. Here is the link:

Thank you so much! Great information!

  7. This is what the Gem provided to us 2 weeks ago, FWIW.

#1 below mentioned both CruiseNext and CruiseNext Ultimate (which is good for Haven & suite bookings, per my understanding) ... those of you who book them can speak to it. The form(s) has to be signed & returned/drop off at the CN Office for it to be processed.

We are going on the Gem in a week and were thinking about buying CruiseNext certificate on board. How does this Special Offer Buy 1 Get 1 Free actually work? I get 1 certificate, pay $250 and get$500 OBCs to spend on board? (I think I need another coffee STAT :)

  8. Thank you so much for the dailies, pictures and all the details! We are going in a month so I'm making notes:)

We have $50 excursion OBCs and would like to rent a clam shell on GSC. Did you use your cruise card for renting the clam shells? I'd love to use at least part of OBCs for this but I'm not sure if I have to book them on the ship or I can do it on the beach? Thanks!

  9. Cruise more often.

We're so low maintenance, it actually bothers us to have someone "wait upon" us. We're capable of making our own dining reservations (or eating in the MDR, if needed). We like seeing other people, so we don't need a dedicated restaurant. If we have to wait 5-10 minutes for a table at a restaurant, we're comfortable with our own company to handle that. I'm fat, and if I don't get chocolate-covered strawberries or M&Ms every afternoon, it's no great loss. The perks would be wasted on us.

I will say the only thing that might make us consider a Haven room would be if the Haven area were kid-free, and I'm not even convinced of that.

For us, the getting away is the vacation; maybe we're just not pamperable!

I was going to write the reply and then I saw your post :) Our feelings to the tee.

Nothing more to add. Thank you! :)

  10. I wouldn't go on Breakaway if you look for a quiet and leisure vacation. (Ask me how I know?: :)

The ship is crowded, very loud and you have to pay (thermal suite, Vibe etc) to have some quiet place to sit, read, relax...

We bought thermal suite passes to get away from the crowds. It's a wonderful place BUT as our luck would have there were people in there who made their business to have very loud and long conversation while sitting in the Jacuzzi or in the the pool.

Then there were people who practically parked on the heating chairs, laying for HOURS and keeping the towels on the chairs while taking a dip in the pool or going to sauna.

Yes, we tried to come in different hours of the day... NO we couldn't get any piece and quiet even in the thermal suite, we were able to catch maybe 4 hours of relaxation time total during our 7 days cruise.

Long story short.. This ship is great for families, there are tons of things to do but it is not the ship for those who just want to relax.. At least it wasn't for us.

  11. Wow. Perhaps you could show a little empathy. These people work very hard. In my opinion it is the Captain who should lead in all aspects and set a tone for the officers and crew.

Empathy is one thing, professionalism is another.

    I completely agree with MizDemeanor.

We all have bad days at work but complaining about working conditions to the customers is unacceptable.
