  1. I wear 'business casual' on all non-elegant nights. On my 'Journeys' cruise to Hawaii this week I will wear a tux with different colored vests for the several Elegant nights. I am a musician and a Mason and am completely comfortable in a tux.

  2. On another cruise line, your card is encoded for their version of 'cheers' when you get it. I have heard that Carnival requires you to go to one of the bars to get it activated. Is this true, and what about ordering with your boarding pass before you can even get your S&S card? How does this all work?

  3. Up on deck nine, there is a 'secret' deck, which is where we would go to star gaze, since there's little light pollution from the stuff going on in the pool area. It was never crowded, and would be one of my daughter's favorite places.

...and where is this 'secret' deck, and how do we get to it?

We are on Miracle later this month to and from Hawaii.

  4. My question is just what does Carnival consider 'Elegant Night' anymore? We will be on a 15 night cruise on Miracle next month. I know there will be several (2-3) 'Elegant Nights'. What is really meant by that on Carnival these days?

    Thanks!

  5. Although this is not our 1st cruise it is our first with my husband using a CPAP machine. I was wondering since we r driving can i just put it in my suitcase so it is delivered to my room. I do not want to carry it until our room is ready.

Also since it uses distilled water does the ship have that or do I need to bring that aboard

And lastly will I need an extension cord to plug it in. If i remember correctly the plug is quite a bit away from the bed

thanks Looking forward to the Carnival Ecstasy for Superbowl!

My machine has a totally separate unit with the water container. I simply do without the water while on board. There is enough humidity (we are at sea, you know) that I have never had a problem. Solves two problems - lightens the load of the CPAP and I just don't have to mess with the water.

  6. Here is a solution:

On day 1 at 3pm, Diamonds get first pick and get to hang a name tag on the chair of their choice and then Platinum's choose and then Gold and Red and Blue get chairs without name tags. If you don't want a chair, don't show up.

Then us peons never get a chance for a chair? Sounds as if you belong on Cunard where there are still classes.

  7. Just plan on it being smokey. Whether you stay or leave is up to you. If you want a smokeless casino, try Celebrity or MSC.

We would do that but Carnival and Princess are the only two that sail West coast to Hawaii RT and Princess was $1,000 more PP with one less stop in the islands. Neither of us smokes; we both grew up with smokers and we hate it. Yes, yes, we know it is legal etc etc etc, but it seems we are held hostage by 20% of the population.

  8. Well aren't you just a little condescending ray of sunshine?

I don't believe that any of us proclaimed ourselves to be wine experts, I know that for myself, I simply said what I liked. I think that it is up to OP to make up his own mind.

Why did we answer? Because he asked.

I simply said, truthfully, that some of the posters said they were not wine drinkers and answered anyway. That is like me suggesting what trumpet somebody should play when I do not play one.

I was trying to be a little more detailed as one who does know a bit about wines. I also agree with the poster who likes sauvignon blanc with lobster. I had forgotten about that one and it is great.

  9. Why all the suggestions from people who obviously - and some have admitted - are not wine drinkers. Riesling is as sweet as I would go with lobster, and even that is too sweet for me. Moscato is a dessert wine, great with cake or chocolate but not with many foods except, perhaps, very spicy szechuan. With the lobster I would say chardonnay or pinot grigio. With steak, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. With lamb, I would add a good pinot noir to the red list. Pinot noir also pairs well with salmon. The riesling or, expecially, the pinot grigio with shrimp or scallops. Another great white with most seafood is a brut champagne, and it does not have to be expensive.

If there is a wine tasting hosted by the sommelier, I would suggest spending the small amount of money it will cost. You will learn so much!

  10. I know that people do not like others to use the buffet area for playing cards, so my question is where can we play cards on the Imagination? Is there a game room? Any suggestions?

On Celebrity we and several others played bridge in the buffet, aft in the afternoon. It was virtually deserted then and nobody cared. I see no reason people should be disturbed by this. A pox on all their houses!
