  1. Husband and I were seated at a table for 10...the 8 others were a group of Russians who were cruising together. The only English from 7 of them were four letter words and drink orders and 1 who spoke a little English.

They smiled at us a lot which I choose to believe was trying to make us feel comfortable but they were constantly leaving the table to go smoke and would come back hollering at the wait staff for their food and drinks.

We switched tables the next night :D

  2. We were on Enchantment last February and had a problem that we took to Guest Services. It was only thru the persistence of my husband that we got it resolved. 4 trips standing in line to the equivalent of over two hours waiting and he was not a happy man.

They kept telling him that somebody would contact us. Never happened. The last time he stood there and would not leave until that "someone" met with him in person. He is usually a very calm, level headed business man but he was very close to losing patience.

OP...hope you get everything taken care of. Maybe the staff on the Enchantment need a little more training.

  3. > we live in the snowbelt of Ohio

    > He doesn't deal well with cold temps

Gotta point out there is a discrepancy between those statements ... lol

Lol:D I know. It was very unfortunate for us that our parents settled here 60 years ago....

We keep saying that when he retires we are heading South! Just hard to leave the area when our entire family is here. Trying to talk my mom into moving is a near impossible task.

  4. > I feel like I'm dragging my hubby with me

Definitely a wife thing. My DH doesn't care about seeing new places and hates spending money with a passion. But he loves me so we went on a Caribbean cruise to celebrate our 25th anniversary and are cruising to Alaska next year. My SIL is dragging DH's brother along on the same cruise, so at least they will be able to commiserate with each other. lol

Lol...My DH really does like visiting new places. But since we live in the snowbelt of Ohio and will just be getting warm in May, he thinks I'm crazy for wanting to go somewhere that might be cold or at least cooler then here. He doesn't deal well with cold temps. As a compromise, we have also booked a quick cruise to the Bahamas in Feb. Best of both worlds....

  5. Here's a link to Caribou crossing http://www.cariboucrossing.ca/cafe.html#

A number of years ago my wife dragged me on a cruise to Alaska, I loved it and now we go every year, sometimes twice. Living in the Seattle area makes it a little to handy to get on a cruise ship bound for Alaska.

    Cool...thanks for the link

It must be a wife thing...This is a bucket list item for me and I feel like I'm dragging my hubby with me. Hopefully he will adopt your attitude towards it!

Not sure how often we could repeat. Airfare from Cleveland to Seattle get costly.

  6. I think you've made a good decision. Does that trip include a lunch at You'll enjoy the trip. What ship are going up on?

Thanks. It does include lunch. We are going on RC Explorer of the Seas. It will be our third time on this ship. Each time from a different port.

edited to add: I see you have taken many cruises to Alaska :) I'm hoping this will be us someday!

  7. Thanks everyone.

Because of all the helpful answers, we were able to make an informed decision.

We just booked and will be taking the bus up and the train back.

So incredibly excited for this trip :D

  8. Why don't you contact the tour operator and ask them what time you leave and what time you get back. They you will be able to answer your own question.

    DON

    Hi Don,

Are you having a bad day? Snarky answers are not necessary. I thought these boards were for asking questions.

I know how long we will be on the excursion. Perhaps I should have asked "Is there so much to see and do in Skagway, that we won't have enough time left over from a long excursion to enjoy the sights?"

    Better?

    Peace and Love...

  9. I would recommend taking the bus up first and taking the train back down in the afternoon. We’ve done both and there is a pretty good chance of there being a lot of fog in the valley going up. If you ride the train up in the morning be sure to sit on the left side of the train, coming back down be on the right side of the train. I like to sit close to the door so can go out and stand out on the platform.

    Thanks for the info

  10. We booked directly through Chilkoot Charters & Tours. We took the bus up and the train back. When we arrived back in Skagway we were given the option to walked back to the ship through town (about 1/2 mile or so) or take their bus back. We opted for the bus but there was plenty of time to walk and explore.

This is the company we want to go with, except we are thinking about doing the train up and the bus back.

Is there fog every morning that would make the viewing not so great?

This is all new to us...Ask me about a Caribbean cruise and I know what I'm doing...lol

  11. We are taking our first cruise to Alaska in May.

I am trying to make plans for our day in Skagway and am looking at taking the Chilkoot train and bus trip to the Yukon territory. We are in port from 7am to 8:30. It is a 7 1/2 excursion. Will we still have enough time to enjoy some of the sights in town?

    Thanks

  12. I have reserved them for my February cruise per the recommendation from my Cocoa Beach hotel. They are picking me up from the Orlando airport and taking me to my hotel at a much better rate and schedule than the other shuttles mentioned.

We are renting a car from MCO to Cocoa Beach hotel. It is most cost effective for 3 of us. We are using the shuttle from the port back to MCO on return day. We don't have enough time to go thru a car rental, but the one way cost isn't terrible from Shuttle Two.

  13. I do not recall them being mentioned on this board. Cocoa Beach Shuttle, Travelynx and CorTrans are the most often suggested shuttle providers between PC & MCO.

I believe that they are a newer company. We have used Cocoa Beach Shuttle in the past, and although there was no major problem, the van left a bit to be desired.

  14. We used them in September for the trip from MCO to Cocoa Beach on the evening before the cruise departed and again for the trip from Port Canaveral to MCO. Obviously a smaller operator, but the vans are as-advertised and the communication on travel days is excellent. We would absolutely use them again.

Glad to hear that you had a positive experience. I'm always worried trying something new :D

    Thanks

  15. Has anybody used Smart Two Shuttle recently? We are looking at using them for the ride from Port Canaveral to MCO and would like some feedback on them.

They have and 8:15 am pickup time which would work great for our 11:35 flight.

    Thanks

  16. Tanya is a sweetheart! We initially met her a few years ago on Explorer when we went out of Bayonne. When we were on Ex again this last Feb. she was just back onboard (Erky from Turkey was on his last cruise) and actually stopped us because she remembered us. Even remembered that we had won the Bingo cruise :D

She was quite excited to be starting her new position!

  17. Maybe I will run into you there :) a coworker, who cruises out of CP a lot recommended it which is why i booked it. All my points are with Marriott.

Which cruise are you on? We will sailing Explorer on Feb. 8.

We are the same with all of our Marriott points:D

  18. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. It looked like the line for dropping off in a car (parking terminal) was ok. I didn't see any backup but we weren't in that line so not totally sure.

It was the line for the shuttles (Avis, Radisson, taxis, Cocoa Beach shuttles, busses, etc..) that was backed up so bad.

We got to Avis about 10:50 (would have been there earlier but traveling companions were slow)... I remember our receipt was stamped 10:51. A shuttle bus arrived about 11 and loaded people on in order of their time stamped on their receipt - this was nice because there were quite a few people waiting and it ensured that people waiting the longest were getting on first. All of the people on our shuttle were going to Explorer. There was another shuttle going to Disney/Carnival.

If the problem is still bad, I would suggest driving to terminal first and dropping off luggage in the drop off line before going back to Avis and returning car. Then when the shuttle gets to the pier, you can just get out of the shuttle and walk in and not wait so long.

By the way, we were embarking on a Sunday and there were only 2 other ships in port (Disney and Carnival)

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. We have a car to drop off at Avis, which we have never done. I like the idea of dropping off luggage first. Just have to convince DH that this might be a good idea:rolleyes:

We are on Explorer, sailing out on a Saturday. I think there are a couple of other ships going out that day also....

    Thanks again!
