Following! We agree about the poor tv choices. I Know you go on cruises to do other stuff, but we enjoy a show as we wind down for the evening. We’ve gone so far as to consider packing a DVD player and some dvds to fill in the gap. I’m not sure if they would let you hook it up, but would love to know if anyone else has had any luck before we drag it on.

Good idea!  Does anyone know if the wifi included with YC is able to handle streaming Netflix or whatever?  We have a Roku stick that carries all of our streaming services including YouTube TV (live).  It is great for vacations.

Does anyone know if the TVs on Meraviglia can handle these devices?

Hi if you thought the room small do not do a YC interior they are smaller.  As for the tv we rarely watch I bring an Ipad  and use Netflix or whatever we are also able to read news in the daily newspaper provided.

    We both appreciated that newspaper.

Yes, the cabins in Divina YC are smaller (older ship) than Meraviglia. Meraviglia YC1 cabins are a good size. My last 3 MSC sailings were in Meraviglia YC and I love that ship. Will be doing a solo B2B on Divina in a YC1 leaving today. Only time I look at a TV in my cabin is to check my folio or the ships position.

Well that's good news that the cabins are larger on M.  I also saw a picture and the TVs are larger too.

Good luck checking your folio on Divina.  I had to stop off at concierge frequently to check ours.  No, that is not on the TV in Divina. Apparently it isn't a smart TV.

Now that's an understatement!  And on the last 2 nights of our cruise the reception went out on that little tiny TV, just when I found a movie on TCM that I wanted to watch!

Thanks all for the info and hopefully just a few more answers.

No, we won't be going on NCL.  But we will be going on Celebrity.  Can't wait to try The Retreat

Just one more complaint (sorry!).  On other cruise lines they have movies playing daily, some 3 times a day at different venues.  Either a dedicated theater or MUTS (outdoors).  And in addition they have movies in the cabin that are on demand.  Start and pause to watch later.  On our 10 night MSC cruise, I think that they only showed 1 movie (in the big theater), and then 1 MUTS.  A total of 2 movies over a 10 night period.  Honestly I may have missed 1 or 2, but not intentionally.  I really wanted to enjoy a good movie.

But YC was a very pleasant experience.  I look forward to doing another MSC cruise, but they have to improve the TV/movie options.  Unless I can use that Roku!

  2. We cruised in YC a few weeks ago on Divina.  Our first MSC cruise and we loved the YC experience.  But we were not thrilled with the cabin.

We were surprised at how small it was and a few other complaints.  The television was crazy small and programming was terrible.

My questions are, are the cabins any better on Meraviglia?  Size, storage, TV?  Is the programming the same, extremely limited?

We love cruising from Port Canaveral because we drive.  And we love cruising in suites.  But we cannot justify the high cost of the YC for such a small cabin and bad TV experience.  We usually cruise on Celebrity, but wanted to try something new and closer.

We really did enjoy this cruise and the experience, but won't do it again in Divina.  Thanks!

The only things included in YC minibar for free is beer and soft drinks. Spirits 5cl miniatures are now chargeable. That said, there is a limited spirits & champagne menu from which you select one bottle of your choice per cruise....again, this is YC only, and not included in the premium extra package.

We also had waters, sparkling and flat, 2 kinds of juices (orange and ?blueberry) in small bottles and I requested a bottle of wine instead of the beer, which they gave me. Very nice.

We are recently off of the currently newest current ship, MSC Seashore, and the lineup was as I described earlier.  There may have been a second news channel.  I just relied on internet access and saved movies on my iPad.

Not a fan of watching movies on tiny screens!

It would not have been so bad if they had shown movies on larger screens during the cruise but that was a rare occurrence.  I hope they get their act together on this issue.  And it is sad that they actually lied to me about newer ships having better TV lineup when in reality they just had larger TVs with programming I am not interested in.

You may have some luck in the Sports Bar, but not likely. You will get your fill of European football, but that's about it.  In room tv is very limited:  CNN, HGTV, Food Network, Discovery, Classic Movies, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, ESPN Caribbean, and ESPN 2 International.

Just got off of Divina and was very disappointed with the TV lineup.  Staff on the ship blamed it on the non-smart TVs.  They made it sound as if the newer ships had better programming.  True?  Is it any better on the newer ships?

Turner Classic Movies was the only movie channel.  I enjoy classic movies but they weren't showing any that I liked while on the cruise.  Except for the last 2 nights, when we could not get any reception.  AAAKKKKKKKK.

Having cruised other lines with on demand movies, account info for cabin, menus and a great TV lineup that had news other than CNN, I was sorely disappointed.  Not to mention the TV so small I could have used binoculars to see it.

While we really loved the YC I do not see cruising again with MSC until they improve the TV situation.  Yes, I am one of "those people" who watches television while on a cruise.

Can't wait until the crew can throw away their masks.  I'd much rather see faces.  It makes me feel sad to see them forced to wear a mask unless they want to.

I agree.  It reminds me of Hollywood where the movie stars get to go mask-less and the help has to wear one.  Plus there is occasionally a language barrier, that mask sure doesn't help!

Thank you for the mention - were you on a larger O ship or one of the smaller ones? The patch is a miracle and has allowed us to travel the way we really want to - trains, planes, automobiles, cable cars, ships, etc but after sizing down from 6000 pax on RCCL to 3000 on X I need to be cautious. Was he changing patches every 3 days and on O had to do the change more frequently?

Yes, it was the larger Riviera.  I think he waited an extra 1/2 day, which on X was no problem.  So if you do them As Directed, you should be fine.  And I mention about having extra for when one falls off!

  8. We just came back from our first O cruise.  I will probably at some point give our impressions of O compared to X.  But for now I will address your question regarding ship movement.

My husband is the King of Sea Sickness.  He cannot cruise without the scopolamine patch.  On X he has not had any problems.  But on O he felt the movement much more than X.  Especially in the specialty restaurants on the upper decks.  He did get sick one evening but he put on a fresh patch and felt much better in the AM when we were in port.

You should be fine but be sure to have some extra patches with you!

OK, Oceania newbie here...we're scheduled for the 12/3/12021 cruise out of Miami (can't wait to cruise the "Finest Cuisine at Sea"!).  When pre-cruise reservations open up 75 days prior, does one need to jump on the Oceania website at 12:01 a.m. to get preferred reservations, or is it OK to sleep into the a.m. and then book?

Being a newbie myself, same cruise with exact same question.  Thank you for asking it!

  10. I agree.  I detest the idea that we may be forced to wear masks.  And then conversations will be all about the virus.  And the masks.  And other similar, tiresome topics which are the last thing I want to talk about while on a cruise.  I am actually booked with MSC for April (hoping that this mess will be over by then) but also booked for Dec with Oceania.  Our final payment is due early September so I really hope this mess resolves.

Signed, Really tired of this pandemic

We have no problem in the R or O Class Verandas but the PH’s on the ships are about 50% larger than the veranda rooms and are enjoyable with the extra amenities. Everyone has a budget but if there is a special occasion, the PH is well worth it.  It is more than the size of the room that make the difference, it is the whole experience. With all the extra amenities and the care you will receive from your Butler, it will be a special cruise. Since on the O Class ships there are four specialty restaurants, should you want to dine in, just know all your Room Service dinners can be from them. Your Butler can assist you with extra in restaurant reservations wherever you choose as well.
If you do make the jump to the PH, be careful, it can become habit forming.
    Bonnie and Gerry

I didn't realize that PH can order specialty restaurant dinners for dine in.  This is for Riviera also?

Is it difficult to get additional reservations for specialty dining?  Do you need to ask right away or can you be spontaneous?  Thanks!

Agree with all that's been said. Not the kind of laundry service you would expect from O. Not at all like a "main stream" line we sail occasionally that sends laundry back hung, ironed and "smalls" wrapped in tissue paper in wicker baskets. The laundry room iron will become your friend.

Ah, I know which "main stream" line you are speaking of.  What a pleasure that was, getting laundry back in that manner and how nicely they were pressed and presented.  If I remember correctly for us it was $7 a day, unlimited.  We got it for free on X as a benefit, I would happily pay $7 a day for that service!  We've not sailed O yet so can't comment (but suspect it is similar to X).

  13. We are not quite Celebrity Xpats.  We finally made it to Elite + and suddenly start trying other cruise lines, go figure.  I think I will always be on the lookout for a Celebrity deal, but their suite prices are not compatible with our price-point.

We look forward to our first Oceania cruise!  MSC Yachtclub next year.

How are they going to handle the people who can prove they've had covid and according to the Cleveland Clinic are just as immunized as people who have gotten the vaccine and do not need to be vaccinated.

A great question.  In fact, my husband who had a positive test for the virus (but it ended up being the mildest virus he has ever had, thankfully) has been advised by our doctor NOT to get the vaccine for a while.  I wish that they would allow the blood test for antibodies to be proof of immunity for those who have had the disease.

I sent a screenshot of my Celebrity points account 2 weeks ago and got my card back in a couple of hours. Sent my husband's in the same way a couple of hours later and still haven't heard anything.

Exact thing happened to me.  Mine, fine, husband's...still have not gotten match and that was a year ago!  But with my match we do get the discount.  And IF we can ever cruise again, hopefully we can straighten his out while on board.

My best guess would be that since you applied $1974 FCC from your 10/20 cruise, then they will reimburse you the port charges on the $4544, if they were $300 total, you will get that back on your credit card.   Then you will have $4544 minus the port charges in FCC.  They will not give you more FCC for the the difference between the $4544 - (port charges) - $1974.  But I could be wrong.  The wording says that they will give you FCC of 125% of your ORIGINAL fare.  Not of your new fare.

That's what I thought would happen (except I didn't know about the port charge refund).

    Thank you!

I booked my April 10th cruise with FCC from Dec. 12th.  I get nothing 😞

How does this work?  We had a cancelled 10/20 cruise.  They gave us 125% of the cruise cost (not on our deposit which is all they had at that point, but the total cruise cost).

So our 4/18/21 cruise which was paid in full was $4544.  They applied $1974 from the cancelled cruise (even though we only had given them $200 deposit total).

So how much credit will we get towards a new cruise?  Which number will it be based on, the cancelled cruise cost ($4544) or what we paid towards it (4544-1974FCC) = $2570?

We would have preferred a cruise in April!

  18. Are you going ahead and making your final payment?

We are new to MSC and not sure what to do.  We are using our 10/19 FCC towards this cruise in April (4/18 Divinia).  All we have invested in this cruise is the $100 each deposit that we gave when we booked the cancelled cruise.  My questions are:

Would you make final payment with the chance (probably a good one) that it will be cancelled?

Or would you cancel this cruise and book one for 2022?  Can I do that and use FCC?

If the April cruise is cancelled, will the previous FCC be applied to a future cruise? Or

If we decide we want our money back (if we make final payment), how are they handling refunds?

Thank you for any advice you give!
