  1. This morning I received a letter from my cruise agent [on Azamara headed paper] saying that the maiden voyage of Persuit will be a 10 night cruise from Barcelona to Southampton sailing on 3rd August next year. This will be followed by a 12 night Icelandic voyage starting and ending in Southampton [3 ports in Iceland, Oban, Dublin, Waterford and Fowey]. I won't put up all the itinerary as I'm sure most people will have access to the details by the time I make this post. The only other cruise mentioned is for a Xmas & New Year sailing 22 December 2018 for 15 nights starting and ending in Buenos Aires and visiting ports in Brazil and Uruguay.

That is correct. The first few cruises will be Northern Europe, followed by several Mediterranean, then a November 6 Transatlantic. It appears that most of the initial Pursuit cruises will be eligible for the Free Double Upgrade promotion, and preliminary pricing looks encouraging, at least in the VX, V1, V2 & V3 categories.

  2. Hi midwestchick,

I haven't heard of an exact date the Pursuit's itineraries will be ready; there are a lot of variables involved with planning.

But my best guess is it will be the week of Oct 24th...about a month from now.

October 24, 1 p.m. Eastern time, confirmed by Miami!

  3. I have not posted for quite some time, and I may be inquiring about something that already exists, but has Azamara considered implementing some humanitarian-based land discoveries, especially in light of all of the recent tragedies? What a unique opportunity that would be to give back while having the privilege of seeing the world. Talk about destination immersion!

  4. I, too, am disappointed about the changes. But let's be clear, it is all about the bottom line for RCL and it's shareholders. I've watched Azamara continually raise their prices over the years, each time they added an "amenity" like drinks, the "Azamazing" evening, and each time they did it, many people said they were going to jump ship, but many never did, as the line is sailing full often. Ask Lisa. Ask Larry over at Azamara. RCL's stock price is at an almost all-time high at $108, so the decisions being made in the board room are being seen in the stock price, which is no doubt the basis for most senior management bonuses, compensation, etc. It's all about the numbers, not so much about the passenger experience. I am a retired Chief Financial Officer, and I am somewhat familiar with the process of a publicly-traded company. I listen to the quarterly earnings reports on RCL. Passenger bookings are at all-time highs, and until that starts to trend lower, you will continue to see these "enhancements." Just my 2 cents worth.

  5. I, too, use both the mid-cruise questionnaire as well as the final comments section of the post-cruise electronic survey to single out all of the individual crew members by name and title. I keep track of all of the names on my phone throughout the cruise so as to not overlook anyone. In addition, since the officers are all so visible throughout the cruise, I take those face-to-face opportunities to praise individual crew members by name. I definitely get the feeling that these comments are well received by both officers and crew, as I'm sure they are all subjected to much criticism already, which is the nature of the beast in any dealings with the public.

  6. It has been my understanding that upgrades are influenced more by your loyalty to the brand rather than a special event to be celebrated onboard. I am aware of an frequent Azamara passenger (25+ cruises) that was recently upgraded from a Club Continent to a Club World Owners Suite.

  7. I am also having problems for the first time with my Dell laptop with online check in. It says all items complete but Express Pass unavailable for a sailing two weeks away.

  8. It has been my experience that I have the same online check-in issues when using my Apple laptop, but when I switch to my Dell laptop it sails right through the process without an issue.

  9. Thanks for the info. Is the WiFi any speedier? Enjoy your cruise!

I have to say there is no discernible difference in either the speed or the connectivity around the ship. It's all acceptable in my book for a ship. We are having a drink at the Sunset Bar right now as we sail from Cabo and the signal seems adequate. Cheers!

  10. Does anyone have knowledge of a massage spa reasonably close to the Puntarenas port? I see several options in the Jaco resort area south of the port but I'm not sure how practical it is to travel there on a port stop. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

  12. One of the risks of any community forum or public review site such as this is the risk of being hijacked by negativism, and that is where one learns to sift through such comments, consider the source, and discount the comment as applicable.

We are booked on Journey for the February 29 sailing, and his will be our 19th Azamara cruise. We have learned that cruising, like food, wine, and many other things, is deeply personal, and one size does not fit all. That being said, our personal experience with Azamara is that it is the people that make the difference, in this case the extraordinary crew, staff and officers, and that is why we keep coming back. The destinations are outstanding, the ship is wonderful, but it is the human element, in out humble opinion, that place Azamara in our cruising sweet-spot.

I appreciate all of the positive, balanced contributions that posters such as Host Andy, Riocca and many others have made on this forum, and I read them with great interest, as it heightens my excitement about our next cruise adventure. Happy sailing!

  13. Just wanted to add to the list of Azamara fans full of appreciation for the generous contribution of Host Andy in providing us with this wonderful thread. I have been following Host Andy for many years, and although I'm not a frequent poster, I have been able to observe, admire and respect not only his passion for cruises, in particular Azamara, but also for the professional tone he brings to a medium which can often be acrimonious. He brings an air of knowledge, experience, kindness, positivity and conviviality to all of the forums he contributes to, which adds to the excitement of all of us looking forward to our next cruise, which is half the fun now, isn't it? I hope to meet him personally in the near future, as we are frequent Azamara cruisers, including the upcoming February 29 Journey sailing. Here's to you, Host Andy!
