You get a promo code every day? I'm lucky to get one or two a month. I sorted through 6-8 of their emails earlier, all of them dated yesterday and today, and not a single one had a promo code.

Oh...I read somewhere on CC that someone got a daily promo code. Maybe I am wrong?

I don't get a daily AARP e-mail with embedded reward code, but I do get several each and every week (without exception) and occasionally two within the same day.  Since there is a limitation on how many points can be utilized daily toward Sweepstakes entries, I'm certain to lose/forfeit the majority of my current rewards points. (It is what it is . . . Take 1)

I spoke this week with a corporate alliance peep at AARP about the new/replacement program, and it is definitely going to disappoint some here. (It is what it is . . . Take 2)

  2. Thanks for the pictures of the new 3rd Floor ocean view rooms, as I found it/them quite helpful.  Your prior pic post showed that there was someone at the lobby bar on keyboard, so that will help with my question . . .

When you were touring 3128, do you recall how much noise intrusion was going on, and is there a physical door between the actual lobby and the hallway containing these new rooms. My upcoming cabin is very close by and I've considered changing it.

    Thanks for any reply.

I'm new to NCL and seriously thinking about going on the Western Med cruise from Civitavecchia (7 days) in the summer but could do with some guidance as to which Studio cabin to pick. I've already seen on here that having one closer to the Studio Lounge is better so you don't have to walk so far.

    1. If I go through the booking process on NCL (I will probably use a TA though), it only offers me cabins on Deck 11 - is it just favouring Deck 11 cabins first over Deck 12 - and can a TA see all the cabins available and not just the ones that the NCL website recommends?

    2. Is it better to go for a connecting cabin or a non-connecting cabin?

My personal opinion is to never book a connecting studio cabin, but that may not be possible the closer one gets to a sailing date.

    3. Deck 11 or Deck 12?

I prefer 12 more than 11, though the forward area on 11 (11500-11515) is rather quiet, and still close to the Lounge.

    4. Are there any cabins to avoid (I don't know what is in the blank spaces on the deck plans)?

    12514 & 12515 !!!!

No one in the History Of Ever has stayed in either of those, had something overly positive to say about the experience, or re-booked them on future sailings.

    Thanks 🙂

I do not have the answer, if the advance info is correct, it will be different than past ones in which the ceremony was done the afternoon the night before.  If it is truly that morning, knowing the New York terminal, I cannot imagine it could not affect the embarkation.  I have not seen anything on whether there will be something special for that cruise, but all should become clear in the next week or so.

The Carnival Sunrise naming ceremony is one of several activities going on in the Manhattan Terminal area that week (and that specific day), so there could certainly be some unique delays happening. I'd done a wee bit of advance research, and found the following site that includes some details of Fleet Week.

I've not posted a peep on this thread from the onset . . . and I've thoroughly enjoyed/appreciated your internal expertise (as always) of this subject, and numerous others.

That (above), sir, is my personal favorite single sentence delivered.

I've insured every one of my cruise vacations, always wondering "what if" . . . and this situation helps to support that choice.

Thanks, again, for the insight you provide.

what job on the ship require multiple lighters? You know they can buy them on any island for $2. Of course they are permissible to bring aboard. Have you ever seen a smoking section on the ship, no shortage of lighters.

    Bartender at Alchemy Bar.

I'm aware that, yes, they can . . . but my goal is just a nice small gesture to allow them to skip even that minimal effort for a short while.

Thanks for validating my question about the quantity.  Greatly appreciated.

Nope, over triple-digit sailings, I've never once visited, or spent time in, a smoking section.  I deliberately choose that rookie status.

    Again, thanks!

  7. Carnival Corporation Prohibited Items

The following items are prohibited and their possession is not allowed on board any Company ship by passengers or crew without a valid lawful reason, unless required in direct support of ship operations, as part of a crew member's official duties, and only with consent of the Ship's Master.

*Flammable substances and hazardous chemicals unless carried in limited quantities and in accordance with company instructions (e.g., petrol, methylated spirits, paint thinners etc.)

    ______________

As a non-smoker, I've never given thought to quantity/size of cigarette lighters being brought onboard a cruise ship, but that is now the case, and a call to the CCL reservations phone number was met with the less-than-helpful, "I don't know for sure" answer.

My goal is to take three (3) sealed multi-packs of BIC Disposable Lighters, making fifteen (15) total as gifts for three crew members who use them in their onboard role.  That would certainly be deemed as more than I'd need for personal use onboard a short sailing (or even a really long sailing) so I'm concerned they'll be denied.  It really is no big deal, and the expense (if they are discarded at embarkation) is minimal . . . but I was really hoping to do this gesture for those crew members.

Has anyone who might be reading this post heard of any specific quantity??  Thanks for any responses.

  8. On my last Carnival cruise, which I debarked this morning, I experienced several things which were new for me (as it's been a while since my last cruise vacation on Carnival) but there were also a few that were learned brand new.

First time having passengers collect keycard at their cabin. Felt weird in the Plat/Dia lounge, but it went smoothly.

I learned that the team assigned to Alchemy definitely have skills that separate them from their peers. I hope they are properly paid for those talents. Amazing.

After reading of revisions/deletions of various food & beverage elements, I learned that (for me) most things were pretty much equal to my past experiences. Whew!

I learned that as JCPenney, Sears, Macy's, and others struggle . . . somehow Park West keeps on going, even on short sailings. Rather amazing realization.

I learned that at shared dining rooms tables, some will simply avoid the first-night conversation experience by concentrating solely on their mobile device throughout.

I learned that on, at least, one particular ship, the quality of a Playlist Production is extremely weak, and actually embarrassing to some of the performers. My only true bummer of the time onboard.

I re-board a CCL ship again in a few days, and will continue to learn on each sailing, despite the history of cruises . . . and I consider that a good thing. :)

    .

  9. Carnival Liberty Day 2-Sea day

. . . We all went to see Flick which was a tribute to songs from various films. A very high energy performance with some stunning special effects.

Just now reading this and hoping that show is still available to see on the 4-nt sailings. I should have asked, but didn't. (duh on me)

Just debarked today from the 3-nt sailing and had enjoyed the Flick show on previous Liberty cruise, so was quite disappointed at what was presented last night. America Rocks! If it turns out that's a new replacement, then it might explain the quality.

I reboard again this coming Sunday for the 4-nt itinerary, so perhaps I'll get to experience Flick again.

Maybe it’s me, but I always find at least 1 singer in a ships company seems to think volume equal quality .There was only one on this occasion ,all the others were pretty good a couple better than that.

Yep, we might be thinking about the same person. ;)

    Thanks for sharing your experience!

  10. Norwegian is still honoring the 9+ month in advance double points like what they did with the old latitude perk before they changed it last year. it depends on the booking date.

i had a cruise booked in January 2017 for may 2018, all of my documents say the booking date is January 2017 so i should get the double points for booking in advance.

I did receive double points on the sailing I just completed (debarked on Saturday) due to it being booked 9+ months in advance, and prior to the Latitudes program changes. I'll anticipate the same result for next week's sailing as well.

    Enjoy your May cruise!!

    .

  11. I have been in this room for 4 days, still currently on board. I will not book it again nor would I suggest it as a good cabin. The location is nice but the door to the hallway does slam a lot. It hasn't woken me up at night, but I hear it a lot each morning.

Yep, that door heading out to the elevator corridors was shutting quite loudly all last week. The one going into the living room walk-over was working well with the new hydraulic arm. I tried to be very careful each time I went through it.

    .

  12.

. . . Since the Sun has never sailed this itinerary, the link above provides representative show times. You could try start asking folks after the first cruise on May 18th.

OP, I agree that the earlier link by BirdTravels will be close to what you can/should expect regarding times.

When Norwegian Sun was last doing these same alternating 3-day/4-day Bahamas sailings out of Canaveral (albeit numerous years ago) that was quite close to the entertainment scheduling.

    Enjoy your cruise!! :D

    .

  13. . . . I walked in my studio cabin (12509) and the entirecloset door was missing. A huge disappointment. But, I knew (or thought Iknew), I could just call Guest Services, and they would have it fixed. Icalled, and they told me "Oh, that must have happened on the lastcruise". I asked if they could fix it, and she said that they could onlyput up a sheet. OK, seriously? A sheet? I work hard for my money, and cruisingis a luxury for me. I told them that was not acceptable. She apologized, andthat was that. I am now staying in a run-down hotel. Wonderful. I spoke to myroom steward Bryan (who was absolutely fantastic!), and he said he would checkinto it. Two days later I had a door.

    . . .

I see a lot of negative reviews and comments, and I didn't want to beanother faceless person to Norwegian about my experiences, so I booked anappointment with the head of Guest Services. I went in and met with her, andexplained my situation. I told her I am not one looking for a handout, or isalways unhappy or complaining. This was my first time ever experiencing this. Itold her about all the positive things that happened, but never experiencedanything like I did on this cruise. I was going to do the"CruiseNext" to book Bermuda and Hawaii this year (Happy Birthday tome), but cancelled it. She said she never heard about any of my problems, andwould look into it and get back to me. I have not heard a word from Norwegiansince.

While I can't/wont factually state your issue in 12509 didn't "happen on the last cruise", I would readily bet $$ that it had been that way for quite some time. Those material coverings (most are much heavier than a sheet, but they might have run out of the better ones) have been used since 2017.

And you are SO right about Bryan being a great, and attentive, steward. :) He left the studios last Saturday for a different location.

Aminta was very aware of the challenge with the studio closet doors.

Jennifer, and her team at the CruiseNext desk, probably were not. They'd not have reason to, but now that you've shared the details, they now are aware.

I was on the Epic 2/10/18 andalso found a door missing on my closet (Cabin 12516). I just assumed there wereno doors so never made a fuss about it. There was also some kind ofplumbing/water problem 2 doors down which left a horrible smell throughout thehallway. Never complained about that either.

    . . .

I would agree that the studio cabin was somewhat shabby, and in need of a deepcleaning, but like you, I try to see the bright side of things.

That left closet door in 12516 has been missing since, at least, September 2017, and the right door (by the sink) since at least early December 2017.

When the refurb on Epic was done in September 2015, quite a bit of the planned updates for the studios area was omitted . . . including a solution to the sliding wheels on those doors.

I was on the Epic last week as well. Ithink the issues with your cabin are uncommon. I'm actually surprised that yourcabin steward would clean that room without a closet door and not get the issueaddressed. It took you escalating it and then he was able to make on appear. That I don't like. But the issue with the air conditioner leaking wasn't anongoing issue and was addressed.

    . . .

I was disappointed in the shows. Not that I was offended by the overtlyhomosexual dominance in all the shows, but it was too much. Priscilla obviouslybut even Burn the floor pushed the homosexual thing too far. Even the Cirqueshow has a strong homosexual flair to it that it never had before. I think thenew Australian Dance Company really takes pushing their homosexual agendaoverboard. Especially since most of the passengers last week were probably anaverage age of 62. I'm 50 traveling with teenagers and I felt I was bringingthe average age down dramatically. If I felt the homosexual agenda from everyshow so strongly I can't imagine what the majority of the people cruisingthought. Most people on the Epic were 60's and 70's and I thought thehomosexual push was just to much for this demographic.

    . . .

I was a little concerned from previous reviews that it would be hard to get adrink. Nope. Never, not once. With 4000 people you'd think to expect longlines. Nope.

I so totally agree with your last observation. Beverage service was amazingly fast and efficient everywhere I went.

You lost me on some of the entertainment comments. Beyond the two BTF comic characters during the pre-show, I didn't notice the strong content you observed. And I didn't notice it during the Cirque Dreams performance either. Perhaps I wasn't paying as close attention as I thought I was. I could be totally wrong, but still lost on the observation.

There's supposed to be closet doors??? Iwas in 11515 last month & didn't have any. I thought it was weird, but Ithought it was just bad design, not that the doors were missing.

Yep, multiple studio cabins on both deck 11 and 12 are missing closet door/doors, and there is no real plan to replace them at this time. That's unfortunate. I love love love Norwegian Epic, and this newest challenge (albeit a smaller one on the grand scale of overall experience) is a bummer. Few would enjoy this visual appearance of a cheap college dorm.

  14. Believe there are 15 or 20 for each cruise. We are Silver and got the last two when we got on. On both recent cruises we did with them they sold out really fast.

It highly depends on the berth occupancy of The Haven on any specific sailing.

On a somewhat recent Epic voyage there were only seven (7) POSH passes made available to non-Haven guests. The following week quite a few more were offered.

    .

  15. Priscilla –We almost missed this show! We had pre-booked it before our cruise, and I had my week totally mapped out. While talking to Pedro one night he asked if we had seen Priscilla and we told him we had not yet but had our reservation booked before the cruise. He said they had a new cast and the letter was in our room notifying us of the schedule change. We thought we had not received the letter but later found it buried!!! He got on his phone and had us scheduled. So glad! Great acting, especially the lead actor and those costumes!!! Bravo!!!

Never made it to the Beatles…. Our biggest regret… guesswe will have to go back.

Escape Room– My sister and niece did this and loved it.

That Thursday night performance was the very first for the new cast. That's the reason for the schedule change, giving them some time to rehearse on the big stage with full props. I was at the 10:00 show and seated amongst the former cast who were so supportive to their replacements, and even a bit emotional.

You do, however, have to raise an eyebrow about the way the "situations beyond our control" letter was worded. The end of their contract date had been known by NCL for almost nine months, and they knew the rehearsal schedule. But, hey, it's all good. :)

The Beatles show in the Epic Theatre was awesome! Bummed they didn't get to perform it the following week as well.

I did the Escape Room event in the Spiegel Tent on my follow-up sailing, and it kicked my butt. Was fun, but hard.

Enjoyed meeting you during the week!! :)

  16. Since the latitudes change in February, doesanyone know how many dinners are allotted to a platinum (or higher) statusstaying in a studio. As a platinum plus member, I booked a studio on theGetaway.

Cynthia, you will receive two certificates for two people to dine at the same time at the same restaurant on two separate occasions. It doesn'tmatter if you are the only one assigned to your cabin or not. It doesn't matter if you are in a solo studio or a suite.

Enjoy your wonderful cruise vacation onboard Norwegian Getaway. :D

Actually, the FAQs plainly state that a solotraveler gets two dinners for one, not two dinners for two.

Multiple CruiseNext consultants have expressed that very little about the FAQs is "plainly stated". They're having to do quite a bit of explaining onboard so that the affected Loyalty passengers understand the entitlements, which are rather 'clouded' by the online wording.

Your incorrect interpretation is part of that cloud.

    Actually, it isn't that clear.

Under the question about whether you can split the vouchers if you are solo itdoes indeed say that solo travellers get two dinners for one. However, it thensays "the benefit is only if there are two guests dining on the samevisit", which suggests something different.

It was/is that whole voucher split thing that created the bulk of confusing text.

It was never meant to be a norm, or exception, for solo passengers to split the former loyalty certificates, but so many ships began to accept the request that a precedent was set . . . and later regretted.

The poster in post #2 indicated that the FAQstated that a solo traveler would get 2 dinners for 2. I simply pointed outthat the FAQ actually states that a solo traveler only gets 2 dinners for 1.You then tried to jump in with anecdotal evidence to the contrary. I could careless about what people claim...it isn't relevant to a post and response thatspecifically dealt with what was statedin the FAQ.

As mentioned previously, we can only state what the rules are, what the FAQsays, etc. Just because someone makes the claim of an exception doesn't mean:

a - the exception will be available to others

b - the exception will be available to the claimant in the future

c - the exception ever truly occurred in the first place

Since you state you could care less that indicates that you do care, so that is the primary reason for me to come back to this thread and offer a factual onboard experience occurring on multiple ships, as recently as right now . . . as in right this very minute.

    You’re welcome.

. . . As hawkeyetise states, a literal reading onthe FAQs would mean that a solo cruiser can't use their voucher unless theycould find another solo cruiser to take with them. The FAQs are obviously badlywritten at best, or perhaps totally wrong.

My reading of the FAQs is that you receive two dinners for two (as clearlystated in the FAQs). However, if there is just one of you then you actually gettwo dinners for one because they can't be split (as clearly stated in theFAQs). If you find someone else to come with you then you can use the voucherto pay for them and therefore get the full benefit because there are two guestsdining on the same visit. . .

    Keith:

Your reading (your last paragraph) of the FAQs is spot-on.

But the relevant question is notone asked in the FAQ, it is the one asked in post #1 of this thread...and theincorrect answer to that question supplied in post #2. That is what is beingdiscussed here.... nothing more.

I’ve love to agree with you there, Len, but then we’d both be wrong.

The answer supplied in post #2 was, indeed, correct.

    . . .
The benefit is PER STATEROOM. You only get itfor two when there are two or more in the stateroom. One in the stateroom getstwo dinners for one.

    Nope, again.

. . . If it is so clear then please explain thecontradiction between the statements that the benefit is two dinners for onebut is only if two guests dine at the same visit?

I mean explain it, not just continue to ignore it.

This is an honest question. You continue to say that the FAQs are clear, inwhich case you should be able to clarify them for us, as they look very unclearto others posting on this thread

I truly believe he could/should have come back here to clear up the confusion, but he seems to have chosen not to. If he inquired onboard Norwegian Epic last week, Melissa and her team at the CruiseNext desk would have explained everything and apologized for the confusion that was/is going on with the text.

And “if” he inquired last week to find his earlier interpretation to be correct, there would have been potential for this thread to get a Neener Neener update.

His sailing was shorter than 5 days so the loyalty certificate didn’t actually come into play.

. . . If the stateroom only has one guest, thenthe two dinner benefit does not apply because solo travelers only get twodinners for ONE.

    Nope, yet again.

. . .You may be correct, but I disagree with that interpretation. I stated myreading of it earlier.

It certainly doesn't look that clear to me (which is the point I have beentrying to make).

Perhaps we should consider what it actually happening on the ships for furtherclarification.

That is the purpose of me doing this thread update.

. . . The benefits are each listed as dinner for2 per stateroom. The dinners are not addressed in the T&Cs and all the FAQsregarding the dinner benefit say the same thing - that the benefit is 2 dinnersper stateroom.

The FAQ regarding solos specifically asks if a voucher can be split into 2dinners for 1 and the answer says: 1) it is 2 dinners per stateroom; 2) solotravelers get 2 dinners for 1; 3) it can't be split; 4) it is only a benefitwhen 2 guests dine together. I believe it is only offered to show that thedinner for two cannot be split if a solo traveler was truly solo and was diningsolo.

Since the T&C for the Latitudes benefits do not address this issue and thebenefit is listed as dinners for two per stateroom then that is what I amentitled to as a platinum cruiser if I book a cabin to myself.

Yep, that was exactly what they meant . . . but they didn’t put it in the clearest form of words. All because of that earlier ‘spitting’ precedent.

I’m fully expecting for ‘someone’ to respond back to me and ask for either a link or some text directly from NCL concerning my factual responses above. Oh, how I really really hope that person does. Please do. Please. The last time that gauntlet was thrown to me . . . it was fun.
