  1. For 7 night cruise - 2 large 29" (one for each of us), a small 21" (for toiletries, misc, etc), and a tote (soda & wine)..All fit thru the scanner and we carry on..(tote fits on small case- all have 4 wheels).

We wear uniforms for work..jeans at home, so we tend to dress up a bit..In fact, my DH takes more clothes than I do!..lol

  2. Our 30" large suitcase fits thru the scanner..You just have to make sure that you do not stuff it full or expand it with the zipper.

The porters will try to tell you that you will not be able to carry it on..they are lying..

We have gone thru Galveston many times, with the same size luggage, and have had no problem.

The hardest part is getting the case up on the belt for the scanner..lol.

    Have fun!

  3. Love them!

Have stayed in 3 cove balconies..I prefer them over regular balconies.

You are close to the water..

Partially shaded, due to life boats above you.

Downside is that the restaurants/galleys are deck above you.

    Some areas experience some noise.

It is convenient getting to dinner.. :)

  4. Best way to see availablilty is to log onto carnival website with your vifp#, click on your offers..if you have a casino offer it will show up, with all available sailings and the price.

Ours was actually available on the day we got off the ship, later in the afternoon.

You can either book online, or call your pvp.

    That is the easiest way.

  5. Usually the ship stays on "ship time", not adjusting for island time...so sometimes there might be an hour difference. Make sure that you use a watch, not a phone for checking time..phones tend to sync with local...Be back to ship at least a half hour early..

Not all excursions, if booked independently, go with ship time..Verify with them when you meet up, the time and inform them what time you have to be back..

Depending on what day of the week you are at those ports, there could likely be only those ships there...

    Have fun!

  6. We frequently cruise out of Galveston. We carry on all of our luggage. At least every other cruise, we have one of the porters tell us that our luggage is "too big", and that we need to turn it over to them. We just tell them "nope", and keep on walking.

It is a little bit of a hassle to haul them up onto the xray belt and off again, but is worth the peace of mind.

As long as the width and height (laying down) meet the regs.. (and almost 99% of the time it will)..carryon is the way to go.

*the weight limit is a suggestion..not a rule .. unless you are flying!

  7. There is a special cocktail/welcome aboard party. Usually gifts almost daily. Drawings almost daily. Drinks on us card as soon as you walk on. Special gift. Slot tournament.

The limit is usually 300 or so guests for each cruise. Is you are interested, book early.

You also get vip at embarkation,

Well worth the trip. Only downside, in my mind, is that a lot of the drawings, etc. are during show times. And table limits are a little higher.

  8. As a dealer myself, we make below min. wage..same as waiters...Tips are our source of income. Yes, we deal the game..but we also provide (hopefully) an enjoyable experience..provide excellent service and accurate payoffs...

We learn the different games on our own time, no pay, and it takes a while.

We have to deal with difficult players, both drunk and abusive, and ignorant.

If you want mechanical...play slots..there is no interaction there!

Its the same as going to a restaurant..you are getting service, so it is customary to tip..if you dont want to tip, eat at fast food!

    just my $.02...

  9. We have cruised in all room types. We used to get balconies (DH smokes), but due to change in policy..he can't smoke there anymore. We decided to go ultra cheap. 1A. We have done this before, for a quick getaway...this will be the 1st 7 day in a 1A. We just couldn't pass on the price. (I was hoping that OV would drop in price for a upgrade, but not even close).

We did get the 1A with portholes, so I have a little light. :)

  10. I traveled on the Epic for the first time in April, in a studio. The Solo lounge is a great benefit of booking a studio. There is usually a board for signups for dinners. You can join a group for dinner every night, or not.

On my cruise, I stayed up 3x all night working on puzzles that are available. Got a lot of comments from others.

There is a bar open in the evening. There are snacks available all day in the lounge.

    It is a great place.

I have done almost 10 solos on Carnival, and it is good, but I really enjoyed the solo lounge.
