  1. It's a judgement call. On my next cruise, I have booked my own shore excursion in Cozumel at Nachi Cocom. We've been there before and feel very comfortable with it. At Falmouth, Jamaica we have booked a ship based cruise for a couple of reasons. I don't feel safe in Jamaica and I think there is some added security with the ship excursion. Additionally, the excursion (Hilton Rose Hall) is some distance away from the ship and I don't want to risk being late back to the ship. You have to balance selection of excursions with price and security.

  2. I like to play the slots when cruising but I have a hard time with the smoke, so I like the sound of a smoke free casino. That being said, you think they could come up with a better solution. Why can't they get real air scrubbers to eliminate the smoke? Why not partition off a section of the casino for either the smokers or the non-smokers? Take some area of the ship and make it a smoke free casino. It's all about the revenue, so find a solution that will maximize both smoking and non-smoking casino revenue - oh, and make all your customers happy!

  3. I'll jump on the Nachi Cocum parade! We went there on our last visit to Cozumel and we've already booked it for our next visit in January. It's nice and relaxing with good food, great waiters and decent drinks. As previously stated, they limit the daily attendance to 100 people. It is a beach/pool environment with some activities for young kids but I think it is primarily oriented towards adults. They have a nice web site you might want to check out.

  4. Nice review! Would you mind if I asked a few questions?

We are going on the Liberty in January and we also signed up for the three specialty dinner plan. Our first meal will be on day one. It is scheduled but I don't know at what restaurant. When do you find out? Also, when can you schedule the remaining two dinners? It would be nice if I could book them prior to the cruise.

How was the tendering at Grand Cayman?

I know this question gets beat to death but I am one of those deplorable people who do not want to dress up for the two formal meals. I dress neatly but no jacket or tie. Did you see many people in the main dining room or specialty restaurants not dressed up on formal nights?

Thanks for your review and your feedback!

  5. Other than the intense smoke, my wife and I enjoy playing slot machines. Like a previous person mentioned, we go with a casino budget and when that's gone - we're done. On most cruises, we typically lose, but on one cruise, my wife hit a jackpot that pretty much paid for our cruise. That was really nice but you have to understand that is the rare exception.

  6. A few years back we were taking a cruise out of NYC and I didn't want a bunch of school kids. I did my homework, found the perfectly timed cruise and booked it. Very few kids right? Nope. Who would have thought so many kids from Quebec would have spring break THAT week?

My overall experience leads me to be much more concerned with young, unsupervised children than with college kids. Seems their parents feel they're safe on a cruise ship and it's OK to let them run wild. That all being said, it's entirely hit or miss. I've been on ships with hundreds of children and never had an issue. Then I've been on ships with no kids but a bunch of old drunks. Which is worse?

  7. I get all excited about fresh baked cookies only to find out that because I am platinum I won't get them? All this other crap I can live without but denying a man his cookies is unacceptable. What is better than a nice warm chocolate chip with walnut cookie except maybe a wonderful peanut-butter cookie. Darn.

  8. While I can certainly understand the OP's frustration, I can say that RCCL telephone customer service can also be very good. I called a week or so ago to resolve three different issues about my upcoming cruise and the young lady was very helpful and resolved all my problems. Maybe it just depends on who answers the phone.

  9. I love just being away from everybody and everything. Once I'm on the ship, I turn off my cell phone and put it in the safe for a week. I never even think about wifi or the internet. No worries about kids, the dog, the house or anything. It's just my wife and I for one glorious week of relaxation. It's just US time with the only "stress" being what to do and where to eat. 94 days to go!

  10. I think Royal Caribbean must be doing a pretty good job if complaints are now at the condiment level. I will be on the Liberty in January so I will see for myself. My next cruise after that is on Princess so I will have something to compare the two to. I have sailed RCCL almost exclusively but I will say they haven't done much to promote customer loyalty. If only they brought back the pepper grinders.....

  11. OK, so I have to pay $35 to get into Chops and then another $19 for this Dry Aged Steak - and that's on top of what I already paid for food on the cruise. This is a vacation and I do love a really good steak. The question is - is this a really good steak? Is this a fifty dollar steak? If so, you might say I'm "on board" with it!

  12. My wife and I each use a CPAP and typically, there are no outlets on either side of the bed; just one across the room. In January we are going to be in a junior suite on the Liberty of the Seas. I haven't been on this ship before but I'll bet there are still no outlets by the head of the bed. BTW, I HAVE asked for a ship extension chord and I received a fifty foot long orange single outlet extension chord that was a tripping hazard at night. So, until the cruise ships start having outlets by the beds, I will selfishly continue to bring my power strip on the ship.
