I thought she'd been sold...I'm confused...If she has been sold why would they send her to dry dock?

I wonder about that too Joanie.  If I knew that she was coming out of dry dock, I would not have booked the 6 nighter starting December 15th.  I was on the Statendam a few years back and it was just out of dry dock and there were problems and more problems!  I did fine but others did not.  Oh well, I shall go with happiness in my heart and look for all things good!

  2. It's been quite a long time ago that I have done the long gown, over the top thing. Smart casual works all the time. However, with my upcoming cruise on the Prinsendam, I have already bought 2 very special evening/cocktail dresses. I want to enjoy the whole experience on a ship that I will never be able to sail on again. Now this is just me and by no means am I saying anyone else should have to do it too.

  3. I never thought that I would ever get the chance to book the MS Prinsendam but I did! Only a 6 night Caribbean cruise in December but I am thrilled!

I am a 4 star Mariner with HA and can answer most questions regarding the fleet but well... the Prinsendam, I can't. Am hoping some of you could help me out.

During the day: what kind of attire? Nights in the diningroom: smart casual or cocktail dress?

I would really appreciate any help that you can give me!

  4. My last 2 cruise's were on the Koningsdam and both ov staterooms in the area that you are inquiring about. I'm almost sure that my last stateroom is the very one that you are inquiring about. There was no major noise from above. My travel agent and I spoke about the location and I decided to take the chance. All was great from up above! I will tell you that across the hall there is a stateroom attendant closet. That was the most noise that I heard. ENJOY your cruise!

  5. I spent 21 nights on the MS Koningsdam in November 2016 and will be cruising on her in a few weeks. VERY nice ship. A bit different from the traditional HA but still a very pleasant time was had. I hope that you will enjoy your cruise!

  6. I am so glad to read your review. We sailed on the Koningsdam's first Baltic cruise and we read lots of glowing reviews of the spa during that time. Our feeling was that it looked pretty, but it wasn't functional for us. We bought a very expensive spa package for our 21-day cruise, went once, and told them we were never coming back. Unrequested, they refunded our money, which was lovely but we would have rather enjoyed the spa.

Our thoughts are so similar to yours - the jets in the middle of the hydropool were way too strong and if one of us went in there, everyone else got splashed. One woman actually fell down from the force of the water while we were there. At one point I tried to get away from the splash from middle jets and moved sideways around the pool quickly, only to bash one of my feet into the metal brackets on the bottom. Ouch! And, when I tried to lounge around the edge of the pool, the very pretty raindrops came down on my face, and not in a good way.

Relaxing in the ceramic loungers was impossible because people were streaming through there to get to other parts of the spa. At that time, there also were no hooks for hanging your robe, so our stuff was just laying on the floor while we were in there. By the time we left, we were so stressed that we didn't care if wasted our money - we just wanted out of there!

We're booked on the Nieuw Statendam next year, so I am hoping they've made some changes to improve all of this. Between the uncomfortable spa on the K and the rising spa prices on all of the ships we've been on lately, we're starting to forgo the spa, which was always one of favorite places on the ship. Happily, there is always something fun to do on a ship, even if the spa isn't it!

I'm going to chime in on this. I usually never complain but... My last cruise was on the Koningsdam and I paid $500.00 for 21 nights. A BIG disappointment! I knew something was off in the Hydrotherapy Pool and now I know. The ceramic lounger area has always been my favorite, no matter which HA ship. Not this last time! Tooooo much noise going on in there. Traffic to the pool and people talking/shouting. I finally gave up. This coming cruise, I may go for a day pass but never again will I put out that kind of money for it again.

  7. As of my last cruise I have become a 4 Star Mariner! YAY!

Question: What is Priority boarding? I have seen the signs before but never paid much attention. Does this mean if the line to board is around the outside building that you go first or what?

    TIA!
