  1. Is the taxi price $4.00 per person each way from the ferry to the baths?

Also, what is the average taxi fare per person from the baths into town and then back to the ferry?

Sorry, if these are repeat questions but just trying to get all the info to give to my group so we can make a decision on how to go to the baths.

Sunday is coming quick and trying to decide to go with Celebrity or do it on our own.

Celebrity = $ 60.00 per person for 4.5 hours. I am thinking they use the ferry to depart at 9 and return at 1.

    On our own (Sunday)= Speedy's 9AM = $20.00

    Smith' return at 3 PM= $20.00

Taxi, round trip to baths= $8.00

Total = $48.00 per person and 2 extra hours at the Baths

Plus we could do lunch in town with the 2 extra hours.

    Does this sound right?

When you return would you please post how this plan worked out for you. Our group is considering this possibility as well. Enjoy your cruise!

  2. We were there a few years ago in May and it was very cold with snow flurries which was out of the ordinary, so go prepared for all types of weather. We also used SPB for a 2 day tour they were excellent in every aspect including emails prior. You are going to have a wonderful time!

  3. We are just back from our cruise and found exploring the Baths on our own very easy. We walked off the ship and it was a 15 minute walk to the ferry. We purchased the roundtrip from Speedy's ($38) which included the ferry and open air taxi to the Baths and back to the ferry.

One thing we discovered at the Baths is that it's better to take the trail down to the Baths (much easier taking it down!). When you get to the bottom, there's an open area to swim (but crowded). Walk to the left (the sign points to the Caves), walk through the caves (not too difficult). That puts you out at Devil's Bay. Nice big rocks to sit on and much less crowded for swimming. Then walk back up to the top from Devil's Bay - a very easy walk up and watch for the lizards and hermit crabs! Nice little restaurant at the top for lunch and drinks overlooking the Baths.

Is $38 round trip per person? What time did you catch the ferry? Thinking of doing this on our own, but we are a group of 6 adults & 5 kids.

  4. We booked a 12 day British Isle cruise in a concierge cabin for 7/2016 while we were onboard our South American cruise in January and got;

    $300 OBC for BI cruise

    Paid gratuities

    Classic drink pkg

Plus a $300 credit on our account on the cruise we were on at the time. If you're thinking of looking into it you may want to decide which cruise is on your next time list. That's what we'll be doing.

  5. Yes, as u walk out of the hotel, goto ur right and like 50 metres down the road across there street is a nice little breakfast place (much cheaper than what the hotel offers)....and on the same side of the road of the hotel is a great Tapas place for lunch/supper...

There are a lot of place to eat around the hotel!

I guess u could walk from the hotel to the station, sidewalks are full of people ( at least in August it was) From the hotel to the Movenpick hotel(Where celebrity docks) was 13 Euro

Ann frank house was maybe a 10-15 min walk. We loved the hotels location

Hope ur July British Isles cruise has better weather than this past Julys cruise---guess it rained every port! We had fabulous weather in August.....and our guides kept telling us how lucky we were!! bring rain gear, lol

Thanks for your input. We will probably take a taxi from airport to hotel. Were you happy with your room location in the hotel? If so where was it?

  6. We did, as it was very close to a lot of shops and restaurants. Lot of cruise people used it. Only like a 5-8 minute walk to the central station. Internet was not cheap, but since were a "member" and booked online it was free, BUT it was up to us on checkout to remind them to take off the fees!

I think it is a set rate from hotels in that area to airport, around $48 Euro

We had 5 days in Amsterdam before the cruise and I enjoyed that more than the cruise (not a huge cruise person, lol) One can book tours online with a middle man company such as viator....or just buy them at the many ticket booths, that are everywhere. We bought via viator, but still had to goto the ticket booths to pick up the actual tickets!

    Some of our favorite tours:

Red light walking tour! awesome!! Started at 8 pm, went for 2 hrs (or 2.5) really an eye opening tour.

Heinekin brewery tour! Interactive and beer! PLUS they have a canal boat, which is FREE...It is a narrated tour as well. We did it after the tour, takes you and drops u off by their souvenir store, which they give u 2 free Heinekin glasses! I think u can take it from the store to the brewery. We walked from Central stn to the brewery, and it didnt take long.

http://www.historywalks.eu/ Awesome walking tour!! Peter was full of interesting information. He emails you a ton of great info prior to the tour.....and sends you more after the tour...amazing!! And it is a small group, relaxing pace.

Canal pizza cruise: Very relaxing, pizza was fine, plenty of beer to drink!

Anne Frank house! if your going to do this, BUY the tickets online. Otherwise enjoy standing in line for HOURS!! They only sell so many tickets for that day online. And I think they go on sale around 6 months out (keep checking). I was told some people wait 5 hours to get in. http://www.annefrank.org/en/Museum/Practical-information/Online-ticket-sales/ We had online tickets for 10 am..simply walked right on up...passed the HUGE line!!!

dutch resistance museum: Excellent. we arrived 1.5 hrs prior to closing and that was enough time to see it http://www.verzetsmuseum.org/museum/en/museum

Lot of great food everywhere, and so much to see!! Watch out for bikes, they are everywhere and I mean everywhere!!

We'll be staying at the Renaissance in July prior to the BI cruise on the Silhouette. Do you have any recommendations for café/bakery restaurants for breakfast that are within walking distance from the hotel? I've read hotel "room tips" on TA, some mention street noise, sloped ceilings, two separate buildings w/rooms. Did you have any recommendations for room location? We are wondering if the train from the airport to the hotel is possible. Do you think it would be difficult to walk from the station to the hotel w/luggage?

  7. The Martini's with the regular package are limited. You cannot get any of the premium drinks. We love the chocolate Martinis, toasted almond and French Martini's made with the premium vodka.

    Works better for us.

True. It all depends on your Martini preference. Our group had no problem finding a variety of Martinis to drink. Everybody should check to see if what they like is offered and then upgrade if not.

  8. You speaking to me? I didn't say anything about not upgrading. Just commenting that a Classic pkg isn't useful at the Martini Bar. Only a Premium pkg is.

We (group of 15) were on the Infinity in Jan, everybody had the classic pkg. We went to the Martini Bar every night and they made drinks sized to the our pkg, and were very happy to do so. BTW I-Made was one of our bartenders, he was great! Hope he's on the Sil in July.

  9. Wow! That is the most lucrative deal I have ever heard of...2,000 of the price of the cruise. Can you supply any other pertinent figures? Also which cruise and for how long?.....and I thought my DH and I were doing good! Congratulations! We weren't allowed to use the one by Celebrity for the past cruise because we booked onboard, but since it worked for you, I will try again. I guess you also received a cabin upgrade tioo, since you booked concierge class.

I must clarify it was $1000 less a couple from the TA, not per person. We did get an upgrade, I believe for "past cruiser". The extra $150 OBC came via email after we returned home, as a thank you for sailing our SA cruise. Which brought our total OBC to $450. We booked a 12 day British Isles cruise for July 2016.

  10. We booked onboard in Jan. We received $300 OBC, pd gratuities, & classic bev pkg for 2. In order to get all 3 perks had to book conceirge cabin. In addition we got $300 taken off our onboard acct on the cruise we were on at the time. We use the same TA so had it transferred to her. When we got home she sent us a revised invoice with reduced total by $1000/couple. In addition to another $150/cabin OBC bonus from X for previous sailing. Before our next cruise we will research which cruise we would like to take next so we are prepared. This was the first time we booked while onboard. Wondering whether the offers will be as appealing with the new promo

  11. On our SA cruise on the Infinity this past Jan. We booked a 12 day British Isles cruise for 2016 in a concierge cabin and got;

    $300 OBC

    Paid gratuities

    Classic drink pkg

Plus another $300 taken off our account on the Infinity

From now on before taking a cruise we will research which cruise we would like to take next and check it out while onboard.

  12. I've done two canal trips - one in the day time was nice. However, the best one was toward evening as the lights came on and we enjoyed wine and cheese as we sailed along the canals.

I've also done combination walking and bus tours in Amsterdam, visiting museums and the flower market, but the canal trips are unique to the city.

    Darcy

Do you recall which canal tour you took in the evening? I've read it's beautiful when the canal is lit up.

  13. We had the free classic drink pkg. for the first time on our SA cruise in Jan 2015. We loved it and didn't find a need to upgrade, everything offered worked for us (a group of 15). No need to look on menus as to what is included on your pkg, just ask your bartender if the drink you want is covered. We even had martinis served in a smaller glass to be covered under our pkg. at the Martini Bar. Your Sommelier in the dining room will also recommend wines for dinner covered under your pkg. we didn't even have to show our cards after the first two days in dining room or martini bar since we were there everyday. It made our cruise totally relaxing, no need to check the prices of wine/drinks.

  14. We did our SA 14 day cruise on Celebrity 1/5/2015 BA to Valparaiso. We are Floridians so for us it was cold but not unbareable. We choose January because research showed the later you go the fewer penguins are there, you may want to keep that in mind when picking a date. I didn't find any of the negative comments you listed by others to be true on our cruise, that may depend on the cruise line. Our least favorite port was BA. Highlights were Peguins, sailing the straits of Magellan, Chilean fords (breathtaking views), & Valparaiso. We totally enjoyed our cruise. We generally enjoy warmer cruises but you can't see these sights. I have lots of research notes I can share with you if you decide to go. Good luck!

  15. We used an excellent private tour guide, Cristian with Ruta Valparaiso http://rutavalparaiso.cl/sitio_ruta_index_en.htm. They will arrange the tour to your desires. We did go to Indomita winery, vina del mar, & Santiago. We went to a great little place called Sibaritico for a quick lunch (at our request) for the traditional Chilean hot dog, very different from the American hot dog. It was the best tour of our SA cruise. You can see if they will pick you up at Santiago and end in Valparaiso which is where they are located. Can't say enough good about them.

  16. We did the SA cruise in January. Great trip! We did several private tours.

In BA we booked a private walking tour with bafreewalkingtour.com, very good guide.

Montevideo took a private tour with Mario Rivero & Marta email rcturismo@adinet.com.uy or sygtraslados@adinet.com.uy they were also very informative.

In Valparaiso took an all day tour with Cristian with Ruta Valparaiso ending at Santiago airport. He was amazing! http://rutavalparaiso.cl/sitio_ruta_index_en.htm

  17. There is no way to predict in advance how the seas will be going around the horn. When we did it a few years ago we were prepared for the worst, having heard so many horror stories, but our sailing turned out not to be bad at all.

So you would have been fine in a sweet sixteen cabin on that sailing, or a similar one.

When the seas are rough, you would be better off in a cabin closer to the center of the ship, but a sweet sixteen will experience less motion than a cabin in the same location on a high deck.

Here is a link to a previous thread discussing this topic a few years ago:

We had the same experience in January 2015. I was worried due to the stories I've read since I have a tendency to get sea sick, but not a problem. It was beautiful scenery.
