  1. Hi all

I am looking to stay 1 night and leave my car at the hotel for 15 nights. We have stayed at the Doubletree San Pedro before and the car was safe. Is the Crowne Plaza in a safe area, as well? Do you think that would be another good option, taking into account leaving the car parked there (it is less expensive than the Doubletree)?

    Thanks all

The parking lot at the Holiday Inn Express Bayside is what I'd consider "safe" but it isn't "secure" as in fenced or enclosed. That said, I'd have zero issue parking there for a cruise. I'd park on the Nimitz Blvd side of the hotel. You are right next to Naval Base Point Loma on one side and Navy housing on the other.

Thank you. When i called, they said that they have "underground parking"?

It is the part of the Medallion app that lets you order things to be delivered to you,  wherever you are on the ship. You can do it from a personal device,  the screens on walls in public areas throughout the ship, or from stateroom TV. You don't want to be a moving target,  but if you order from a common screen you can go sit down and the delivery staff will find you via your Medallion.

I see that there is a place called La Patisserrie on the Diamond. Is that similar to the IC? Do you know if they have small salads in addition to pastries?

I don't see myself "ordering" food

We are booked on the 5 day Cabo trip on the Diamond.  I figure it might be my only chance to try her, since she will be going back to Japan.  I like the idea of the smaller ship, the wide promenade, and for cooler weather, the covered pool would be a bonus (not a problem for us!).  I really like the idea of San Diego rather than LA as embarkation port!

I was concerned about no international cafe, but with Ocean Now, it is less of an issue.

    what is ocean now?

It's a decent 1960's style motel...clear on the other side of Long Beach...about a 7-8 mile drive--on ALL surface streets--from the Carnival Pier....in a largely residential area across Pacific coast Highway from a public golf course and a couple of blocks from the campus of Cal State Long Beach...IOW, it's incredibly unexciting...

OTOH, since you'll have your car, you don't have to spend much time there except to sleep.  You can head down to Naples, to the Naples Rib Company, for dinner...or other eateries in that area...

The other issue is that I assume since you're leaving your car there, you are counting on the hotel's shuttle...You will waste a bit of time waiting on their shuttle on both ends...and on the lengthy shuttle ride each way.  It is a fairly safe neighborhood in which to leave your car, though...

BTW, I assume you are cruising with Carnival.  If you are on another line, you'll need to get to the port in San Pedro...and you would be nowhere close to that...and the hotel shuttle won't take you there.

thanks for the info! I think we'll stay at the Hotel Maya this time and check out Hotel Current while we're out there

It's no secret...I've never been a fan of the Queen Mary.  There are so many much better hotel choices in the area...

That said, the Queen Mary is in dire straits for so many more reasons than the current pandemic...

The above is just a sampling of articles over the past few years...and up through yesterday...

Maintenance issues, management issues, tax issues, fraud and corruption...

They may very well reopen after the pandemic...but, personally, for me, it's not worth it...Book something at the Hyatt Regency, the Hyatt Centric at the Pike, the Renaissance, the Westin, The Doubletree Maya or the Residence Inn Downtown...

    Good luck...

what do you think of Hotel Current, if we need to leave our car there? We usually stay at Hotel Maya, which we love, but others have mentioned Hotel Current.

    thanks

I have a question. We received an upsell offer for $330 pp to upsell from an obstructed oceanview to a balcony. We declined the offer. We are sailing in about 35 days. There are over 50 balcony's still showing available. We are hoping for a better offer. Has anyone received a 2nd offer when you have already declined one?

This is for the Star 15 days to Hawaii.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

We received the same offer...also declined! HOPEFULLY, there will other offers coming
