  1. A week or two earlier, if possible; half the price, 1/3 the kids. Xmas week is one of the most expensive weeks to cruise.

I wish I could! I see those prices and they are a great bargain! But my daughter's a nanny and only gets the time off at Christmas. Plus we really want to get away at Christmas.

  2. ...That's exactly what we did. DW made some little mittens out of felt and ribbon. Then we packed them with gift cards and cash. There were multiple mittens from which to choose on the table with their names on them. We all exchanged other gifts that were small enough to bring in luggage. The kids still talk about this as the best family cruise they've been on.

Here's hoping you have a great Christmas cruise. Bon Voyage!

Love the photo!! And thanks for the ideas! I told her the cruise WAS her Christmas gift, but I would love to secretly take something along to surprise her Christmas morning!

  3. Do it! We just returned from a Christmas cruise on the Freedom. We had a fabulous time! It was so nice not to have to cook and clean. There was free champagne on the first day and on Christmas day. Our next adventure will be a NYE cruise on the Breeze 2015. We're anxiously awaiting the rest of the 2015 itineraries. Happy cruising!!

Funny because I was thinking about booking the Breeze. 8 days and a great itinerary! Thank you!

  4. I am seriously considering booking a cruise for my daughter (24) and I for Christmas 2014. I saw a Carnival cruise that I was so close to booking today! For those of you that have cruised at Christmas, is it mostly families cruising or is it a mixture?

I spend so much time "doing" around the holidays...baking and buying that it just gets tiresome. We really have no family left in the area and I think getting away for the holidays would be perfect for us!

  5. I would wrap a box of underwear as a Christmas gift (what kid doesn't like underwear for Christmas right??) and place the boarding pass underneath them...on the bottom of the box. Watch the look on her face when she opens the underwear...then realizes it's really a cruise!!

But then again...I'm a prankster like that!! :D:D

  6. I think people just don't think. We were on the Fascination during SS Sandy and it was really rough seas. Like hang on walking down a hallway. The decks had all been closed for two days. We were waiting in line at the buffet and a guy (30's) with his big camera pushed open the deck door to go out on the deck to take a picture. He had to brace his body just to stand upright. We all thought-what an idiot! He took some pictures-decided to come back in-the air pressure was so strong he couldn't get the door to open. He put one hand on the middle and pulled the other door-it released and slammed onto his hand. A guy helped him get the door open so he could get inside. That stupidity could have cost him his life. Some people feel they are safe because they are on vacation.

I saw almost the same thing on the Fascination a couple of weeks ago. Our balcony doors were locked due to the rough seas. My aunt and I went down to the lido to get some ice cream noticing that not many people were out that evening. One of the officers came down and was telling everyone to hang on to something when they walk...that even half of the crew were in their rooms with seasickness. Next thing you know....a mother and her 2 sons (I think?) came walking in off the outside of the desk....wet and windblown laughing like it was some kind of game to actually walk outside in that stuff. CRAZY!! And my thought was....and this is why people go overboard and why cruiselines get a bad rap!!

  7. I just got back yesterday from my Fascination cruise using FFTF. Loved it and thought it was worth it...for boarding alone! Boarded with Zone 1, headed straight to my room (which was ready), and within 15 minutes of getting there, my luggage arrived!

I also was in Zone 1 for getting off the ship. With a 1:00 flight, I was happy to be one of the first off.

I never had a need to go to the Guest Services desk, so I can't really comment on that.

  8. I'm loving your review! I saw the blue tshirts on board and was wondering if they were from your group. So glad your surprise went off smoothly and I loved your review part 1--made me tear up too.

I didn't know the serenity deck served lunch! I was only up there twice and it was in the late afternoon. We spent most of our daytime back by the adult pool.

Looking forward to the rest of your review!

  9. Hi everyone,

I'm a 28 year old single guy, no kids, no attachments, just me. I've been on a handful of cruises with family, and I've been on one solo cruise a couple years ago which I really enjoyed. I'm in the military and wanted to go on a cruise before deploying, so I'm going on a cruise in less than a month! Unfortunately, I couldn't find anyone who could or would go with me, and since I had such a great time going solo the first time, I decided I'd do it again. However, I'm still debating whether I should bribe a friend to come with me...with a free cruise...?

I have a hard time finding friends to go with me too...even if I agree to pay since I would have to pay double occupancy anyways to go solo. What's up with that?

Anyways...really just wanted to say thank you for serving our country!!

  10. I've been toying with the idea of booking a quick solo getaway to someplace warm and sunny! I'm 45 and usually travel with my 22 year old daughter. We have a cruise booked in July, but after a recent engagement breakup, I think I need some time away by myself and soon!

I've never traveled solo and I'm not afraid to...it's just taking the plunge and actually booking a cruise!

  11. 6393 is a 1A 2 decks directly below and has 2 twins and a bunk in the ceiling that cannot be used on the Valor. No one seems to know about 7345 and 8357 which are above and the same size as 6393. Firefly might know, he is the guru of 1a's. Ill be on the Freedom next week and will try to check those cabins out after I board.

We had room 7345 on the Valor. It had 2 twin beds on the floor, and a bunk in the ceiling which was not used.

  12. I'd never been snorkling either before going out on this tour. My husband had, but only in swimming pools, etc as a kid. Chip is certainly willing to be of help, tell him up front you need his assistance. I wasn't even sure how to put the gear on (although we both swim we still chose to wear the thin life vests that can be inflated, if needed).

My hubby has asthma and just couldn't relax..plus simply being in open water really put him out of his comfort zone. He ended up just floating close to Chip. For him it would have been better if we'd just gone off a beach. For me the first five minutes were a little spooky..the mask and snorkle felt claustrophobic plus the ocean sure moves much more than a swimming pool! However, I found as soon as I put my face down and actually snorkled I started relaxing...it was so cool! Make sure to bring an underwater camera! I didn't want to head back to the boat at all, the time goes very quicky..can't wait to go back!

All in all I'd say look at your own comfort level swimming in open water with waves. By all means be honest with Chip..he'll stay close to you in the water. Honestly even if I'd never snorkled on this trip I enjoyed the boat ride, stingrays and good company so much it wouldn't have mattered.

If we get to Grand Cayman again we will go snorkling, but probably at Eden Rock or other place off the beach so my husband can it enjoy too.

Also, I can't imagine that the folks on the big tours around us got much attention from their guides. Some of those boats were packed full. Forgot to mention in my first post that we did feed the stingrays with squid Chip brought. Didn't think I could do it but I did..twice! Not all the tours do this...in fact, people from the other tours were coming over and helping themselves to our squid bucket..not too cool.

I emailed Stingray Sailing three times with questions before we ever booked. Michelle (Chip's wife) replied quickly. I would suggest contacting her if you have specific questions or concerns, she was very nice and helpful.

    Thank you!!

  13. I am in the process of booking a March cruise on the Valor for daughter and I. Room #2211 has a single bed with convertible sofa and portholes. Is the convertible sofa comfortable?

The first and only cruise we took was an inside room--it's my thought that although this is a 1A, it might feel like a step up. Any info you can give me would be appreciated on this room.

    Thanks,

    Kristen
