And back on topic, we cancelled our only Oceania cruise attempt a few years back in the Med when Grecians were rioting. Never regretted it.

We've been on Solstice once and Golden Princess twice. While we loved both, based on ship, food, entertainment, and service, I think you made a mistake, albeit a small one. But you weren't really asking for an opinion...Hi CurtWe have cruised with X twice and with RCL once
We changed our mind about our next cruise which was to have been in the Solstice in March 2016 .
We changed our minds for a number of reasons one being that we felt that a number of changes over the couple of years made X less of a perfect fit to our cruising needs
We were "relieved" that we were able to change to another line that we feel MAY suit us better
Here in Australia for many years we have had a sequence of "older" ships cursing and have had not much choice , however the re-entry to the market place by RCL and X did shake up the local scene a great deal.
We have decided that Princess MAY suit us so have decided to try Golden Princess twice , we will be on their Christmas cruise to New Zealand (14 nights) and in March to the Pacific Islands (14 nights) .
We chose a ship that was NOT normally based here in Australia as we believe the standard MAY be somewhat higher that some of the Older, Smaller locally based ships
So I suppose we could not be called loyal to any brand
The proof of the pudding of course will be in the eating , hopefully we wont get indigestion :p
Best Regards
John

We do, but we tip normal stewards a bit more too.HI. I am sure this has been asked a lot before, and it is off topic. I have only sailed in a Haven suite on Ncl, and I am sailing in a SS for the first time on the Summit. (Sooooo Excited!!) Do people tip the butler extra at the end of the week? -
Nobody has mentioned the RS differentiator for us. It's the 2-person whirlpool on the balcony. Only RS and above have that.

I had not seen the stickies. I did a general search and didn't get much. There is never anything here in my current favorite haunt. I have appreciated the informative responses, though. It seems that the Celebrity experience would not disappoint us at all. Thanks to everyone!

Sounds more encouraging. Thanks all!

Denali Park Village sounds pretty dreadful on Trip Advisor. Sounds like we need to stick with Princess if we want to go back and get carted about.
-
Can only speak for Princess. While we prefer Celebrity's ship experience in general, Princess really does Alaska well. We have particularly enjoyed Glacier Bay and it should be on any bucket list. Celebrity does not go there as far as I know. Regardless of the time of year, outdoor pools are not crowded in our experience due to cool weather, so the enclosed Celebrity M class pool may offer an advantage if the pool is a major factor for you.

Hotels that Cruisetours will use:
In Seward, we use the Seward Windsong
. Anchorage is the Anchorage Marriott
. Denali is the Denali Village or the Grand Denali
. Fairbanks is the Pikes Waterfront or Sophie's Station
. Talkeetna is the Talkeetna Alaska Lodge
Confirmation is made approximately 30 days prior to sailing
Thanks, Curt. Have you done this? Any personal observations?

Get on the Alaska forums here and you'll get a wealth of information.
Really, I'd rent a car and do the interior yourself. You'll be able to stop when you want without waiting for a busload of people to get off and on and only stop when and where the "schedule" says. You can stay in the Princess hotels if you want to, but you can stay in whatever place you want to (and there are some very experienced people on the Alaska forum who can recommend many). You can take a better tour and go further into Denali National Park when you go, much further than the cruise tours go. You can see more, spend much less, and have a better time. Can't get lost really, there is only one road basically anywhere.
It's the way we're going to do it next time.
Everyone I've talked to and everything I've read about Denali is that it's best seen on your own. You can do it, of course!Yeah, I'm lazy. I don't want to have to plan or worry about multiple vendors. I want them to haul our bags around while I sit in the dining car and watch the scenery go by. They even stopped the train for wildlife photo ops. I was hoping for something similar from Celebrity.

I used the roll call and went with private tours...I never use ship tours....
Clear to Denali? I know you can do your own land stuff in the interior, but we like the guided "mostly-inclusive" mode for multi-day extensions involving buses, trains, etc.
-
You're right, I mistook that for a "?". I saw one review of a land portion based on a search. So they don't do specific lodges in the interior?you probably don't realize it, but you chose the "thumbs down" symbol, I'm guessing you were looking for a question mark. In any case, specific hotels are generally not specified on Celebrity's descriptions, so you are searching correctly, but one place you might not have looked is in the reviews section -- perhaps you can find out from those who have recently taken a cruise tour what hotels Celebrity used this year by looking there. -
Have been to Alaska 3 times, once with Cunard in'84 then twice with Princess more recently. Princess really does Alaska properly. This last time, we did a cruisetour with them and it was managed very well. Now our thoughts are turning to going back. We were in the 2/3 that missed seeing Denali due to weather. We prefer the Celebrity shipboard experience but are having difficulty getting much information on the quality of their land part. Nowhere on their website can I even find what hotels/lodges they use! Searching here on CC has yielded little unless I'm using the wrong search words. I certainly see very little discussion on the Celebrity board about it.
Can anyone please share their Alaska land portion experiences?
Thanks in advance!

Or book the excursion and buy your significant other something nice onboard. We know the prices aren't the best, but it's just all out there every day...

Another instance here of my DW getting all the emails. I get the cruise confirmation when we pay something, but she gets all the offers. Maybe this is smarter than we think. Even though I am the "payer", she is a major motivation!

Did a ten day Hawaii round trip with six sea days. Would do it again in a heartbeat! Talk about decompressing...

So what if there have been previous threads about the shift in entertainment? If it's still an issue with enough of us, the more we bring it up the more likely they are to listen. Our first two Celebrity cruises had the acapella singers. Everywhere they performed it was mobbed, so it can't be a lack of passenger interest. I am encouraged that a couple of the above posters mentioned that they are back on some voyages.

Celebrity doesn't go to Glacier Bay, which is the single best stop on any Alaska cruise....
Glacier Bay is a "bucket list" experience. We've been twice on Princess. A naturalist comes aboard and narrates. The captains stop in front of two huge glaciers and spin the ship in place so all can see. Glaciers calve, wildlife is EVERYWHERE.

I'm on vacation. I'm happy. I like those who serve us to be as happy as possible. I always tip a bit extra. I've never had service so bad I was tempted not to.

I've contacted a T/A that I've been using for the 14 day Oct. 2, 2016, Canada/New England cruise on the Summit for 2 people. There price is the same as on Celebrity's web site but they are offing $200 OBC. Does Celebrity ever have any sales like Princess does? From other peoples experiences might the price go down? Princess sometimes give an upgrade or offer an upsell. Does Celebrity do any thing like this?
I've got an inside stateroom 2183 deck 2 on hold and by looking at the deck plan it is at the rear by itself near the elevators. What do people think?
My plan is to stay in Times Square and travel to the cruise terminal in NJ and it looks like using a car hire is the best option. Anyone traveled from Manhattan and so how did you travel?
Thanks!
Tom:)
We have stayed on Times Square pre-cruise twice. We have used the same car service both times and I remember it being about $120 in an Escalade. Not cut rate, but really comfortable! If you are interested, I can give you the number.

We've been invited once and had a great time. We also felt that it was because we had related well with the CC hostess. We didn't schmooze her up on purpose for that reason, it just happened.
-
We are on the 2/20/2016 cruise as well. I'm a bit nervous about it. We got such a good deal, though, and they seem to be selling it out.
-
They have an 89% tax evasion rate. Really. Look it up!
-
It happens. We upgraded from a Sky to a Royal for $1200 once. They called us. It was WAY under the listed price. It happens. How about it not being particularly realistic wanting a upgrade for a reduced price (which EVERYONE wants)? My answer was honest.

I have used them on both Princess and twice on Summit and have been very pleased.
