  1. love the review so far and will be following your adventure. We will be on AOS in june and cannont wait.

can you tell me if the ceilings are metal? we have a almost 2 year old that will be with us and are trying to figure out how to make a curtain or something to block her view so she sleeps through the night and doesn't think its time to party

    Thankyou!

If not, try temporary Command hooks that stick on

  2. Familygoboston, I hope you don't mind me providing this info for the folks asking:

Below is the link for Pack for a Purpose if anyone is interested...it walks you through step by step on what to do, where the drop off locations are as well as what each location is in need of. I hope this helps!

I'm loving your review so far! I've been following your blog and your pics of OSJ are gorgeous. I especially love the pic of the upper balcony with the blooms...so pretty!

Thanks! I have studied the webpage. In order to drop off at a specific spot, how do we find out which spot is closest to the cruise port where we will be?

  3. The visit to the school in St. Lucia to deliver the supplies I brought was an experience I will never forget. I'm a retired teacher and to see the few things the teachers had to work with was heart-breaking. They had blackboard dividers to separate the classes, kindergarten with no books nor puzzles, very little paper, no workbooks, and one laptop for about 7 teachers to share. But the happiest kids I have ever seen and so much better behaved than kids here (ie. no running to teacher every few minutes during recess to tattle; recess being inside as the school door opened directly onto the street. I am planning a day trip to the area when we get to St. Lucia and would love to bring more supplies.

We are traveling on AOS in November. A group of ten with half teachers/retired teachers/principal. We think Pack for a Purpose is a wonderful idea and are ready to contribute. I am looking forward to information on how to get the materials to the school. Thanks!

  4. Any outdoor store. We had a teacher recommend them for a trip to France, at that time Platypus was the only brand. I got ours at Eddie Bauer but I have seen them other places. I did a quick search and found this link so you can see what they are.

Thanks! It's a really good idea!

  5. Katie, fabulous review, awesome pictures and a beautiful (& photogenic) family! I am really enjoying this. We were on the Jewel for a B2B in Jan/Feb. and had such a great time that we booked the same 2 weeks for 2016.

Regarding water - we used to take on a case and then discovered that the ships water tastes fine to me. We now take 2 collapsible water bottles per person, fill them with ice water (using glasses to fill them), put them in the fridge and we have water for the next day's adventure - I'm cheap and also enjoy not schlepping the water onboard . I may grab some more of these bottles so we can keep one in the fridge for drinking in our room.

Can't wait for the rest of your vacation. Thanks so much for all of the info. - I always learn something.

Where do you find collapsible water bottles?

  6. Here's one perspective- most of the complaints- from minor to major- don't apply to us.

The new drink thing- we barely drink, maybe buying a glass of wine or two for a 7 night cruise. No big deal.

The cost- outside of the huge discounts we got when the BOGOHO sale started, the prices we have are pretty close to what they have been. We don't vacation outside of a few times during the year, and the prices still don't seem bad to us. Heck our rate on an T-Giving Athem cruise is really good.

The service- I have never experienced the terrible service that people complain about. So hard to put any credence into those complaints.

The food- if I had a complaint- it's that they push too much of it. I've never once gone hungry on a cruise, and typicall gain weight.

The entertainment- I know it's not for everyone, but apparently it is for us.

So in summary- it still fits.

If people want to call me some kind of cheerleader or overly loyal or whatever- you know, that's not my problem. We are having fun, and I'm not here to make you happy.

    I agree

  7. Thank you. I emailed them for our group of ten. Do you know if Anse Chastenet Beach is the same as Jealousie? We were at Jealousie at Sugar Bay. The beach itself is gorgeous as is the snorkeling but where the tours come in it is very crowded with dilapidated beach chairs.

  8. Pinkroses,

Most catamaran tours are the same. Sail to Soufriere, get off visit waterfall, botannical gardens, volcano, have lunch, return to the cat stop for snorkeling and swimming. Plenty of drinks. Basically it chosen which catamaran you would like to experience this with. There is Sea Spray cruises, Endless Summer, Carnival Sailing just to name a few. If you would like to customize your trip then I suggest looking to private tour operators. There are serenitytvl, mystic man, just sail... I suggest contacting them for more information.

Thanks! It's ok that the tours are the same, just a slower pace than the speedboats. I will look for a private operator so our group remains small .

  9. In Barbados we did a great catamaran tour with Calabaza. It included three snorkel stops plus lunch. We are looking for something similar on St. Lucia. We have already done Herod's Sea Tour to Jealousie Beach. Trying to stay away from super speedboats. Thanks!

  10. Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking. Plus my husband not listening to nor following directions even with a gps. The forts look great and good exercise. We have 4 stops so not worried about missing beach at this port. Thanks for feedback.

    Jean,

I think we were on the Explorer in November with you. In fact we did the speedboat ride to the Pitons in St Lucia which you arranged. Just wondering which ports you are visiting this time and what you have found. We are sailing out of San Juan in November on Adventure of the Seas. thanks! Sue

  11. On our first RC cruise, on the Explorer, we ate in Portofino. I had the dessert sampler. The next night in the main dining room I asked if it was available. The head waiter came over and explained it was a specialty of Portofino and suggested another dessert. When we got back to our room that night, on the bed there was a tray with the sampler from Portofino with a note from the head waiter. It was very kind and very appreciated!!!
