  1. On Statendam final cruise they were auctioned to interested passengers. Bought one that now hangs in an office at HAL headquarters and one in grandson's bedroom - fun to have them!

    Hello, cruisin'teach. :)

Jack was thrilled to buy the plaque for Port Angeles, WA - our home. He treasures it.

I just wish that HAL treasured the history that they should be honoring.

  2. Yes, I would have hoped that some of the art would be placed on the newbuilds.

Maybe others who sailed with me on the Statendam's final voyage will have memories more clear than mine. But, I do recall that somehow, maybe during a Q & A, we were told that removing, storing, and re-installing some of the special pieces of art would take place on the newbuilds. I do recall learning that the mermaids/fountain in the Atrium were "toast", however.

This was the same cruise in which I was told that the library books, which I SAW being boxed by the On Location Guide and the Librarian as we approached Singapore, would be off-loaded, stored, and transferred to the Amsterdam when she reached that Port during the Winter. Those books were then to be off-loaded to the Koningsdam when they met in Italy. Did not happen!

    Your memories are indeed accurate.

  3. Thank you, OlsSalt, for bringing up this subject.

Doing our own research is paramount, but since HAL is providing port information, it should be useful.

A long wish list for HAL could be useful for them to consider and sift through.

The old maps were so nice, because they had enough contrast to be easily readable. Unfortunately, they were not always accurate. The new maps are too faint to even read sometimes.

  4. I have had the cortisone, as well as the jell shots. I have worn a knee brace from the ortho doc for a number of years. You can buy a stretch one at a drug store. This might help. I think the key is not to overdue. I also take turmeric.

I always travel with a pair of elastic knee supports. If a knee acts up, the extra support can save the day. My new ones were about $3 apiece from Wal Mart. Consider doing some shopping for them in Fort Lauderdale.

Thank you so much for sharing another Grand World Voyage with all of us.

  5. Thank you, Dave, for page two. Can't imagine how it got missed :) I really appreciate all of your work to share this adventure with us.

Fremantle is a lovely city. You are a good explorer and your photographs are great. Glad the weather warmed up.

The Gazpacho Andalusia at dinner sure looked good to me.

Keep up the good work and enjoy.

  6. Enjoyed the jack-o-lanterns and dreaming about the menus. :)

You are a trooper, Dave. Through thick and thin, you share countless details and photos for us to enjoy. Thank you.

Remember to look out for yourself and DW, savoring this great adventure and getting enough rest.

When our grandchildren arrive this morning (Kg teacher conference) (new baby brother is six weeks old), they will delight in seeing your different carved pumpkins. Tonight is our Halloween.

  7. Oct. 16, at sea (Cont.)

We both agreed that we may be in the minority, but we find the crème brulee to be pretty bland/tasteless. It is basically a flan, of which we are not fans. Maybe if they floated it in a plate of Grand Marnier instead of just adding a dash, we might find it tastier.

    More later,

    Dave

Thanks for trying the creme brulee. Not everyone loves it like I do. Jack won't even touch it. I always enjoy flan too, because back in Jack's Navy days our neighbor in Greece presented us with a big bowl of yummy homemade flan. Good memories.
